View Full Version : Pat Bowden to Richmond

One-eyed Tiger
7 Oct 2005, 01:57
The Tigers have come to terms on a trade for Western Bulldog Patrick Bowden, who will be reunited with his brother Joel at Punt Road. In the deal, the clubs will exchange fourth-round draft picks (the Bulldogs moving from 59 to 56) and the Dogs will pay a small amount of Bowden's modest contract.

Should have let him go last season when his stock was a little higher. The only reason I believe the Dogs kept him was so Richmond couldn't get him.

If all goes to what is planned for tomorrow The Bulldogs will be paying two players that are not on their list. Pretty dissapointing. :thumbsd:

Oh we're from..

Not a big fan of Patrick, but not really losing anything there. Glad we did something in trade week as well. Still time if anyone wants a raking left footer in the form of Tivendale?

Gee it all makes sense now why we didnt chase Fevola any further ........

Move over Fev here comes P. Bowden :thumbsd:

Gee my mob must be hard up for a buck if we managed to convince the dogs to pay part of his contract still.

off topic now but... I thought Wallace left the Bulldogs because he and Smorgon had a fight(not physical) after Smorgon started making cutbacks in Terry's coaching staff.
Brown left not for money, in fact he could have gotten more at collingwood, rather he left because of what happened to Terry and joined the Tiges because he had mates there.
Richo is there for money? that's just stupid.
Simmonds wanted a long term deal and Richmond were the only ones willing to offer it.

Rodney Eade despises lazy unaccountable inconsistent players like P.Bowden and would be happy just to be rid of him regardless of the very very small compensation.
A big loss for Werribee Football Club.

I hope he goes well at Richmond, he showed glimpses down at the Dogs, but never seemed to take the next step. Maybe playing alongside Joel might push him on.

Would Be A Nice Cheap Pick And To Say Richo Is There For The $ Is An Outrge One Of The Best Clubman U Could Find

One year contract, of which the Dogs will pay a small part, and nothing really given up to get him so it's there's not much to lose if he doesn't work out.

Wallace left because he said he had "lost the passion to coach the bulldogs", and then the players voted him off before the last game because they were angry with them

Brown left because he wanted to play in a successful side under a good coach (looks like bulldogs at the moment over richmond)

Simmonds chased security/money, same thing really

Richo... he's been there the whole time so I wouldn't think that he is chasing money at all. The other three may have cases to answer however.

Dogs couldn't delist him without paying him out.

Presuming he was on $150k and that the Dogs are paying $50k and Richmond $100k - what the Dogs get out of the deal is $100k in savings, the picks are irrelevant.

Richmond get to keep their PSD pick and don't have to spend it on Bowden. The $100k isn't much to us because we are at close to the minimum cap anyway.

We are a bit light on for tall forwards if Richo, Simmonds or Stafford gets hurt so Bowden is cheap insurance. Also means that the guy we pick at 8 in the draft gets a one year apprenticeship while Bowden takes the punishment.

That's just stupid.

Not prepared to argue about the other three though ;)

You guys rated him very highly last year and wanted the earth for him. Now you can take what you're given AND pay some of his wage too thanks very much.

Why are Richmond and Bulldogs named in the trade deal?
It's Werribee and Coburg.
Have you not seen him play?

We didn't rate him highly at all. We just rejected your rubbish offer (trading up from pick 39 to pick 37) in the folorn hope that he will have an cracker season in 2005, therefore driving his trade value up. Now I guess we will have to accept your equally rubbish offer this time around.

Eade didn't rate him, just offered him the chance to establish himself.
He failed miserably.

Why??? Is what I said untrue??? Would you like me to did up some old bulldog posts from last year and embarrass you?

Lets be fair.

Bowden is good when he is 25 metres out from goal without pressure.

Talk about a nothing trade!

It won't hurt the Bulldogs. Free up 100K and get rid of some dead wood weighing us down. But since he had one year left I would have rather kept him than give him for free. Oh well.

I doubt he'll play any senior football at Richmond either. They have a big forward line already. I just can't see how Bowden would fit in.

You can if you want. I don't care. Most people did rate him last off-season. I know I was one of them. There were a lot of others too. He had a pretty decent year in 2004. 2005 was a real eye opener for Bulldogs supporters though.

Any official confirmation of this, or is it just what the Age has said?

I feel he's worth more than that... not too happy, we could have got a third rounder for him.

He's got all the talent needed. I was hoping if he stayed, he could make something for himself at CHB.

Disappointed we didn't drive a harder bargain if this is the case.

Interest for Bowden was luke warm last year, after he had a good season in 04. After only 8 games this year its obviously gone down. Having said that I would've thought a late 3rd or early 4th round pick would've been a bit high but worth a punt.

They couldn't play hard ball with Richmond or any other club. Eade wanted him out! Everyone knew that.

so in reality, we lost bowden for 3 places higher in the draft

I just think there is not a place for him in Richmond's already tall forward line. But you never know.

so are we also paying a percentage of his wage? i'll be very dissapointed if we are, because although his crap, he probably justified a higher pick than 56, especially in a weak draft

Blinger
7 Oct 2005, 13:27
Greg Miller has already stated that he only intends using up to a third round pick this season with such a shallow draft. So in the end we picked up Bowden for nothing since we were'nt going to use the 4th rnd pick anyway.

Only paying a small proportion. Won't make much difference. Is only contracted for another year.
