View Full Version : Peter Street - our #1 ruckman
Been visiting here for a while before joining.
Can't believe that a lot of people here reckon that Minson is our #1 ruckman.
I reckon Street is a much better ruckman, and will have a huge 2006.

Welcome to BigFooty. There is a strong team of followers of Peter Street here and while I'm sure most will stick up for Minson as being the number one ruckman, Street certainly belongs in our best 22.

Unless Darcy's knee won't let him ruck, Street will be playing for Werribee in 2006.

I disagree. I think Street, when in form, is definitly a part of our 2006 team. Street is very good at the centre square bounces, i dont think he is quite as effective from boundary line stuff but he is excellent in the centre square and does create matchup problems for opposition teams.
Sydney to me have shown the way, and that is rotating a range of ruckmen through the position (Jolly, Ball and Goodes) and I would like to think we would be (Minson, Street and Darcy)
I am viewing Darcy in 2006 as an allmost full time forward because I think often takes guys a good 1/2 to a 1 full year of games after a knee reco to start playing well again.
Street is not necessarily our number 1 ruckmen, but he is an important player with an opportunity to stand up

Isn't his tap work better than Minson's?

Did you see the Minson to Cooney combo in the last 1/4 of the Brisbane game? That was the best ruck work I've seen from a Bulldog ruckman since the halcyon Wynd to Romero days of the late 90's

I agree with Matt, Darcy is likely to play as a key forward for the majority of games allowing Minson and Street to do the rucking.
Darcy will of course be used in short bursts. Streets form, particularly in the latter part of the season, was more than encouraging enough to suggest he should be part of our best 22 in 2006.

Sorry there is no doubt in my eye's that Will Minson is our number "1" ruckmen.

Agree. I'm sure I heard Eade say something to the effect that if Street and Minson were playing well he couldn't see any reason why they both couldn't fit into the side along with Darcy.
If Street maintains the focus and work rate around the ground he showed for most of the 2nd half of the year I think the trio of ruck options in the team could work well for us. If Will can also make some more strides in his forward play this could be a very versatile ruck corp!!

With Darcy more than likely to take a key forward role for us now Peter Street now becomes an important ruckman to the side. His ferocity for the contested ball and contested marks has improved remarkebly and he now has presence around the ground. His rucking ability has never been in dispute so now he has improved on his ground work him and Will Minson together are going to lead the ruck stocks for our club next season and if they continue from where they left off last season they will have long successful years with the club.
Minson/Street ruck duo with Darce permanent full forward is the way to do it.
There was a time where Street was one of the most one-dimensional players I'd seen, but he has worked hard enough at the other areas of his game (i.e disposal) to warrant a more regular role in the team.
there is no doubt streets disposal has improved a lot. if he improves his endurance there is no reason why he cant make a decent ruckman.
the guy is not the worst kick in the side.

the guy is not the worst kick in the side.I reckon he is close to our best kick for goal. The guy seems to be a dead eye ******** from a set shot.Got no stats to back that up but it just seems like everytime he lines up he nails it.
Street wont play 22 games IMO.Will do a similar job to this year.Skipper,Street,Darcy and Minson in the same side simply wont happen very often.

I agree entirely. It'd be nice to actually stretch other teams for height up forward for once. Darcy could kick plenty as a permanent forward, no-one will beat him one on one
I think Streeter and Minson are pretty close right now. I think Willy is clearly better around the ground, but I do think Streeter has better tap-work and doesn't have the brain explosions or discipline problems of Willy. Willy's agression is fantastic, but he has to keep it controlled
dont forget that darcy can also play on the ball like he did a couple of times last year, and have minson or street in the ruck.
I wouldnt risk Darcy jumping around.... look what happend to Primus.

Out on the ground is fine. Just not up off the ground.

Agreed. I'd rather see Darcy full time FF .. Unless of course the Ruck calls dor drastic action where we're getting absolutely killed. Which IMO won't happen much, if at all. Minson/Street compliment one another with their styles. Darcy as a full time FF would be much better. Unless of course we draft Pods. That way, Grant goes to FF and Pods to a FP.
Although, you couldn't have Street, Pods, Darcy, Minson, Grant, Morgan, Skipper all playing in the same side.
Bit of a problem, but a good one to have I suppose. Means they have to work very hard to earn their spot.

If Streety plays like he did in the West Coast game, where he was aggressively hand passing of the group to a target, he will play.

skipper has more to prove than street, but then again the need is greater.

Skipper will play for Werribee all year. Skipper is crap.
Street has come on in huge bounds this year. The Tall One showed in the Richmond game. He can drop back and take marks go forward and take screamers and kick goals from outside 50 and showed that with his massive height, he can dominate with the new centre circle rules.
The last half of 2005 he was n't beaten by his opponent. Granted, he didn't dominate them all, but he was never embarrassed by his performance or his efforts and fantastic dtermination.
Skipper on the other hand the more i see the Jeff White free think it was right to be paid.
And as such now dont rate him whatsoever.
At the moment i'd say Street is No. 1 ruckman. If Minson can continue to develop and focus his aggression a bit better, then he will become no 1. Darcy is destined for the forward line for the rest of his career.
All Hail The Tall One.

That's the first thing I thoght of too, it was so dominant.
Also his 3rd qtr against Adelaide in Granty's 300th, but he was knackered by the effort, just needs that maturity and bigger fitness base to keep it going.
I think they can be a good tag team.

skip isnt our ruck option, but we could really do with him being a credible mobile style of CHF target

At first I thought all this "pick the worst player you can find and pretend they're good" stuff was cute (circa Hunter & Wills). Now it's just lame.
Street is better than he was, but he's still a long way from being AFL standard.

I think Darcy, Grant and Minson are into the side by default.... dont see anybody with the experience or strength of those two. Skipper needs to be consistant as his only 'great' game was against Geelong where he kicked a bag of 5... as for Pods its hard to see him playing for us as we would have picked him up years ago if as good he is made out to be
