Who should join Matt Hayden in the first test?
Hopefully Langer gets the nod although i think Matthew Elliott deserves the opportunity.

Michael Slater for me

Slater has gone off the rails and seems a bit unstable. He has more talent in his little finger than Langer but has lost the plot. He can't seem to concentrate like he did in his prime. Langer is tough and will fight to the death and is popular within the team. Slats doesn't seem to enjoy that popularity any more. I'd give Langer first go.

Langer will open in the first Test. I would be surprised if Slater ever plays for Australia again.

Played against Langer a few weeks ago.
He scored a ton... he doesn't look pretty but you can never doubt his fighting qualities.

Well you'd hardly say Slats did his cause any good with a blazing knock of 1 this morning. Langer for mine, Tugga loves him, and you can't deny he puts a high price on his wicket.

Langs.
He's on of my favourite cricketers. For his determination, guts and fighting ability.

Elliott would need to have 2000 runs by December to have a shot. He's a bloody joke at test level.

Langer for mine. He proved himself in the final test, (thank you very much Mr.Collett:D) whereas Slater cant even hold a bat lately.

You couldn't drop Langer after scoring a ton in the last Ashes test & his recent form has been impressive. Slater on the other hand has lost the plot lately & has lost his steadying influence (ie. his ex-wife).
Also, who will join McGrath, Gillespie & Warne for the 1st test? I know it won't effect the result, but hope Flemming gets a chance. Can't believe the selectors persisted with Brett Lee in England, when he clearly wasn't in good form.

How can you go past Langer?
Scored a ton against England in the last test
Scored 96 at the Gabba a week ago
Scored a ton this weekend
Thats fairly good form in my books. I think he'll play the entire series against New Zealand. His form will decide if he will play in the tests against South Africa.
