Recovering South Australian speedster Shaun Tait has targeted a December return to bowling, but Cricket Australia's scheduling may not allow him to re-enter the first class arena before the middle of January.
Delighted by the positive result of his shoulder cartilage surgery, Tait will begin rehab work next week with a view to bowling again in six to eight weeks.
But his return could coincide with a lull in SA's playing commitments, with no Pura Cup or ING fixtures for the Redbacks between December 18 and January 14.
The dearth of cricket means Tait will have little opportunity to prove his match fitness before the start of the triangular limited overs series, which begins when Australia meets Sri Lanka at Telstra Dome on January 13.
Tait said he would not rush his recovery, but wanted to be bowling again before Christmas.
"They've said six to eight weeks, but I'm not going to rush things, I don't think it's the sort of injury where you can risk things and rush it, so I'll just ease into it," he said.

Tait has been told throwing rather than bowling will pose greater problems for his recovering shoulder, and will build his training program with SA physio John Porter next week.
He will also be an envious observer of the Sydney Super Test.
"I've been sitting on the couch having a look, it's frustrating watching and thinking maybe I could've been out there playing," Tait said.
"But there's a lot of cricket for Australia over the summer and over the winter as well so hopefully I can put my hand up again."

Tait looks like he could be back earlier than expected, wouldnt rush him back into the national team, give him some good game time with the Redbacks
