It is a bit early at this stage, but from what you have seen from your state so far in both forms of the game, can you see your state making the final in either form of the game?

Myself, being a QLD fan, I am very confident of them making the final in the Pura Milk cup. I am not sure if their is any state in the four day game that will beat us, in particular if we get a home final, however, it is still early, and anything can happen. And then when Australia take some of our players, then who knows. Injuries can happen.

In the one day form, I think we will finish 2nd or 3rd. I have a bad feeling about the one day side, although they did pump WA, thanks to Symonds and Maher, and to our bowlers and fielders. I will be at Punt Road today to see if they can beat the Vics, even though I am as sick as a dog. NSW, in my opinion will be the winners this season.

How do you see your state going?

No. I expect us to finish 2nd or 3rd in the one dayers, but I do expect QLD to make and win the final in the Pura milk cup.

I don't like the redbacks chances for the Pura Cup. Our bats (excluding Boof & Bluey) are not good enough - they couldn't even capitalise on Dizzy's 8 wicket haul versus NSW. Also, Dizzy will be missing for most games, along with injuries to Wilson, Swain & Young, things aren't looking great.

However, I reckon we will be around the mark for ING Cup, as the redbacks are performing better at one day level.

WA - unless our bowlers pull their fingers out of their arse, I think we will be pretty ordinary. We have the batsmen to make big scores but we don't have the bowlers to get the opposition out, demonstrated by yesterday's finish against Tasmania. We are seriously under the pump concerning bowlers, with no real talents coming through in a state where we are supposed to breed fast bowlers.

I really worry about the future of WA's quick bowling attack. Joey Angel will probably be playing his last year and I don't have much confidence in Carey or Swan, which leaves Williams who has a bit of fire in his belly when he's not injured. I hope theres another Lillee out there coming through the ranks!

NSW should be more of a contender than it has been in the last two or three seasons.

Even though it will have several players missing due to international commitments, the suqad looks to be getting a bit more experience under its belt, and some depth is starting to emerge.

Bracken and Haddin are now at that stage where they can look to cement their positions at the elite level of domestic cricket, and remain as more permanent international fringe-dwellers (rather than one-off inclusions).

Slater and MacGill look to have returned to the state squad long-term, and Brett Lee's international season isn't as secure as it was last year, so he may also return at times.

Full line-up :
M.Slater
G.Mail/C.Richards
S.Waugh
M.Waugh
M.Bevan
S.Lee
B.Haddin
B.Lee
S.MacGill
N.Bracken
G.McGrath

Put that side onto an oval for 10 Shield matches and they won't be beaten too often.

Yeah, but a lot of those players will not play anymore Sheffield Shield games Darky.

But, the Blues do have quite a few second-string players that can hopefully step up and fill the shoes. Slater, Bevan, S Lee, MacGill and Bracken will play the games, Mail looks like a quality player and Clarke has been bowling well.

I think NSW will be very competitive this year...we beat QLD at the SCG at the end of last year and finished pretty well, so hopefully they will continue that form.

The bating does look a little frail when you take out the Waugh brothers (and Bevan during the ODIs), but no more so than that of Victoria and South Australia. Also, if these players miss due to internationals, the bulk of Hayden, Symonds, Ponting, Langer, Martyn, Gilchrist, etc will be missing from their state sides. The WA batting line up doesn't look all that strong without their best three either.

What the re-inclusion of Slater does, is inject the experience and batting class of a 50+ Test player, into a state side which was lacking experience and batting class.

Meanwhile, the emerging young talent in Australia over the last few years has come largely from states other than NSW, so other states will have to learn to cope with having their players away on international duty, the same was NSW has done over the last 10 or so years.
A few years ago, WA had a few players who seemed forever on the fringe of international selection, but rarely played, and therefore were always available for state matches. They were the elite of the domestic competition, so the WA side was strong. Now they are starting to feel the pinch when their star players go on international duty.
Tasmania looks like it might have this problem in a couple of years time, and who knows... the Vics might even produce a half decent batsman one day! ;)

He shows he can bat, but hasn't really done much at state level yet. His district form has been very good over the last couple of years.

I think Klinger's only about 20 or so - plenty of time for him to come good.

Don't worry Briedis, I understood it... but you DID ask if I rated him at all - I rate him as an improving young cricketer with a bright future.

I hope you weren't asking how he'd rate in a dress!

Speaking of which... when the Vics made their first appearance in a MMC cup game wearing shorts a few years ago, Tony Greig's commentary involved rating each player's legs out of 10!

NSW will win the ING Cup and The PURA MILK Cup. They are just too good for any other state. Too much depth, too much talent.

Go the Blues!!!
