With all of our bad trades here is an absolute rip snorter that we have pulled off. It has been rather complex and over a few years similar to the Croad, Hodge, McPharlin deal but it works like this.

Fremantle trade Heath Black to StKilda for Pick 17
Fremantle on-trade pick 17 for Jeff Farmer
Three way trade (2001)
Troy Simmonds: Melbourne - Fremantle
Daniel Bandy: Fremantle - Bulldogs
Craig Ellis: Bulldogs - Melbourne
Three way trade (2004)
Heath Black: StKilda - Fremantle
Troy Simmonds: Fremantle - Richmond
Aaron Fiora: Richmond - StKilda

In the end
Fremantle
Gain: Black, Farmer
Loose: Bandy

Very good arrangment for us that one.

And how could we 'gain' Black if we started with him in the first place?

We gained someone who wanted to play in a Freo jumper and traded away a mercenary.

Black wanted to go back to Victoria in the first place in 2001 when he was homesick (obviously sttled things down and came back last year).

Some of you Freo supporters are a pathetic bunch of whingers, really.

Too true.

I thought he had a pretty valid point myself - who said he was whinging?

If we lose black, and get him back, the net result is nothing - not gaining black.

Net result:

Gain- Farmer
Lose- Bandy

Still a win, but more realistic than what was originally posted. Lighten up.

Perhaps you'd be a good assistant for Smarty.

I wasn't talking about him. I was talking about the pathetic whingers. Of which there are many. People punching themselves in the face before anyone else gets a chance to get a shot in. Then moaning about it.

Overall it worked out well for us.
I often wonder (do that a lot :)) how 2004 would have been if Ron Koseph had of faxed off the paperwork in time and Heathblack was with us after he realised that the grass wasn't greener on the other side.

The net gain from Black is that he is a better player now

Not to mention the leadership skills He has developed.

He seems to be a big factor in organising bonding sessions amonst the players and bring a refreshing voice of reason to the group.

Nothing bonds better than a bit of beaten up Hoo Haa. :)

Yes there was. And what's worse, is there was absolutely no acknowledgment that it was Heath's good work that gelled the team for the final half of the season. I reckon Heath should get everyone foggy-mist and pants off at the start of the season so the whole of 2006 is on-track. No point waiting till the mid-season break. Its our version of Sheedy's campfire.

Bit harsh Dr Ralph. CC has praised him publically a few times that I have heard.

I agree though , Get them out on the soup the week before round 1.

"His performance wasn't lost on coach Chris Connolly who said: "Black is the one that set up that function last weekend." Black wanted the pub crawl to garner team morale among Victorian and South Australian recruits at the Dockers. "There was nothing that overstepped the line, but gee whiz, we have copped it," Connolly said. "Heath was really devastated earlier in the week and he showed the club that he cares about the place and performed well today.""

Point taken, Rip. I had forgotten Coach Connolly's fulsome praise.

But, still, many here reckon it was players coming back from injury that gave us a bit of a run on in the latter part of 2005, and not Heath's good work.
