Geez - that would have to be the first time I've ever agreed entirely with a BHS or BS post. Maybe I've overdosed on the painkillers I'm taking for my broken jaw and teeth!!
Coach, thats no good, how did you hurt yourself? By the way, us old BF lads need to stick together against the 12 year old kids who are trying to turn our forum into health classes.

Roy, you blokes need to concentrate on playing finals in C Section. You also need to tell your coach its not really a smart idea to post c r a p on this site(flanker I believe is his name).
Its a massive step up into B and A and I hope you lads are up to it. Do you still get many players from the Uni and if so can they play? As far as OH go, I would strongly doubt that they would only have 10-12 on track in mid March.
Whilst i would be surprised if this was the turn up at this stage of the year, I will say it's not entirely unbelievable. I make no secret that I hail from the snakepit, and I must say that during the latter Nicholson years numbers on the track outside season were deplorable. Don't get me wrong I think the man is a SUPER coach, but I think it was just that he sucked every ounce of effort out of every player every single week that by the end of the season blokes didn't want to look at a football until it in the real thing. I think thats probably his downside as a coach that he doesn't build for the future and history shows that he has tremendous success but then the club experiences a lull when he leaves. History also shows he doesn't hang around anywhere too long. The year after he left us we spent the second half of the year pulling blokes out of the under 19's to play 2's, blokes out of the under 17's to play 19's. When he arrived we had 2 strong under 19 teams where we won a lower grade and a section '1' flag in consecutive years.
Interested in response from anyone from OH but I don't think theres many on here

A few points if I dont mind before Brian Speaking appears tomorrow.
1. Nicho is mad, we all know it.
2. OH wanted a flag badly but will go to C as their penance
3. Hailebury College has this crazy idea that it can buy APS flags and loyalty, but the Old Boys will suffer because all of these lads will think they are too good for the VAFA.
4. St Bernards didnt slip because of Nicho. They didnt win the flag because of him either. They won it becasue Neil Loughlin was the second best recruiter in the VAFA at the time and when he was no longer able to do the job, the club suffered. Take it from me, great recruiters are not appreciated when they are there, its only a few years down the track when they havent been replaced by someone as good that the club goes s h i t, why cant we win games now? This is the exact thing that happened when I left SKOB and even now they dont value the massive contribution I, along with Paul O'Shannassy, Dave Murray and Brian 'Benny' Goodman made. We recruited for not only seniors, but just a s strongly for the Under 19s that won the 2000 flag in Section 1. Out of this side came M Lucas, the Giansiracusas, Crohen etc and played in the 01 senior GF side. This is why they will sit in B if they are lucky until the much vaunted next 3 yrs of massive talent at SKC comes to the club, if they are recruited that is.

Shows how little you know Brian. Hailebury College and the Ammos side realistically have nothing to do with each other. Regardless of the school buying flags, the ammos side need to stand alone and at no point will rely on the school to produce players. Probably more than 2/3rds of the kids are too good for the ammos, thats why they are on scholarships, The top APS sides would crush any TAC team. They had 2 kids drafted in Sheldon and Collins. How many were drafted from A Grade consisting of 10 or so clubs.
Stop making a fool of your self Brian. Do you live for Big Footy, does it consume your sad life. TBP and SMG etc seem to be current ammos types with reasonable opinions and attitudes, you sound like your trying to hang on to the footy life by a very thin thread. You sound like a very lonely man Brian, maybe you need to get your wife to pay a little more attention to you!

Hey d i c k h e a d, read what I wrote properly. I was making several points about clubs in general and used mine as an example. Not sure SKOB has turned their back on me, or me them, I have just moved on thats all. Should also add Tim Hart to the reason SKOB were very good.
If anybody is doing the stroking, it sounds like you. I talk facts pal, you only wish that you have had as great an input into a club as myself and the several off field people did at St Kevins. You will never know the feeling of satisfaction you get when you have a band of people, along with truly great SKOB players like Brady, Dollman, Garvey and Mahoney can do when they work together for no other reason than to turn a struggling club into a terriffc club. All for the love of the game.

Brian, read my reply again. I was sticking up for you, and telling "Buffolo" to read your message properly. Look at the quotes!

Haha, yeah Nuts, I am used to being the whipping boy actually! I must confess I didnt read your post properly, so apologies. My schooling days ended 20 years ago, perhaps I need to go to Grade 1 with my son tomorrow and see if I can learn anything.
Coach, thats no good, how did you hurt yourself? By the way, us old BF lads need to stick together against the 12 year old kids who are trying to turn our forum into health classes.
BHS/BS,
Unfortunately I got knocked off my bike by a car last Friday week (9/3). TAC will be paying for everything except a replacement bike, which her insurance will have to cover. 2 teeth lost and 8 more broken with 7 screws and 2 plates in my mouth until mid April. Jaw fractured in 3 spots (impact in chin and two sharp breaks up the top just below each ear).
Means no playing for at least 2 months, but I guess that'll mean I get on top of the coaching caper a bit quicker. Frankly, I was looking a good chance to be playing in the seniors rd 1 (i.e. coming off the bench after coaching the early game) so that's a bit disappointing but....it could have been worse I guess!! Aiming now to return in the revised round 3 as a playing coach, and working my way into the late game if/when form dictates.
Back to the Nurofen Plus and power milkshakes!!!

Interesting point but I feel your logic is floored. Just because Hailebury may have a whole team on scholarships, it doesnt mean that they could beat any TAC Cup team. Quite simply, these scholarship holders may be the last guys picked in a TAC Cup team each week. So they may be collectivelly strong against APS teams, but would most probably struggle against a TAC Cup team.
If they were the best, you would have had a lot more than Sheldon(who Brisbane picked to get back at Carlton re Murphy) and Collins, only a rookie, drafted from Hailebury.
I would also be keen to know how many APS students were drafted this last draft, and how many were non TAC players. If the APS was as strong as a lot of you seem to think, then non TAC players would go. The fact is that they dont, and according to several AFL recruiters I know, a good performance in an APS game is not highly rated at all.

I am with you on this one Brian. The drafting point you raise is a good one. If it is so good how come 10-12 kids aren't drafted every year? The bottom few sides in that comp fall away badly and it is even arguable whether it is indeed even the best school comp.

Easily the best school comp in Australia by a country mile, but nowhere near TAC Cup level.

Pyramid Hill is actually a club in the Loddon Valley league. Ben Altis and a few of his mates play there, and the strong word is Turtle has been offered big $$$ and has signed there.
As fas Jordan and Harvey go, it would be sensational to see them back in the VAFA, I just cant see it coming to fruition when they can earn lots of $$$. Its very hard to give that up once they have gotten used to having the spending money every week, loyalties or no loyalties, its about them.
You heard it here first a month ago. I had some very aggro responses to this post, particularly from Gils Horse and VAFA06. Perhaps you guys should now give me at least a little credibility.
Turtle has been using up St Bernards so he had somewhere to train, very poor form from a Premiership player. Now, look out for Turtle poaching some Bernies players, I have the word that this is in process.

Glad to hear it... It's always been a winner in my books.
There are strong rumours that Melbourne's drought has also hit Heritage very hard so he is heading to the harbour city permanently in order to find relief. Watch out Kings Cross!!!

If your recruiting was so top notch then in your time at SKOB, why did at least 6 SKOBS continue to play at Bernards and seek premiership fame there.
Two of the guys you mentioned went to school, hardly a great feat getting them to play for the oldboys. There is something wrong if the oldboy can't attract 90% of the guys who played 1st 18 football in their last years at their schools.

Just for the record trinity beat De La by about 4 goals and should have been by a few more if it wasnt for some wasted opportunities in front of goal...
Trinity vs Xavs this sat, which will be a a good test for the OT's.
So....any practice game reports from the weekend?

Saw the Uni V Bernies game. Uni got up by about 6 goals. Good hitout for both teams. Bernies were missing alot of senior players but some of the kids did ok.

I saw the Brighton vs. Scotch game.
Brighton - very good with some quality new talent and some more talent to come back in.
Scotch - deplorable. Missing targets, arguing with eachother, not playing as a team......
Brighton got up by about five goals which probably flattered Scotch somewhat. The G-Train didn't play which may even the contest next time as Old Brighton looked vulnerable against taller opponents.
Doors played in the ruck for Old Brighton but will probably play CHF for the majority of the year as they have limited options without him. He looked ok but ran to the wrong spots too much and would be exposed if playing against a better player in a game of higher intensity.
The strength of Old Brighton is definately in their midfield - Clarke (BOG), Perrett, Phelan, Talbot (?), Hendra. They have a lot of options to rotate through their engine room which could see them be very competitive, especially against the likes of Uni Blues and De La Salle.
In other games:
Collegians beat De La Salle by about 4 goals
Xavs beat Trinity by about 5 goals

Old Xavs played two equal sides instead of a firsts/seconds because an ex-player's wedding was on that afternoon and alot of the senior players were attending, and could only play in the early game. They beat Trinity's reserves by about 15/20 goals and then beat their seniors by 6 goals.
Read what you like into that.

Did you have a win at Dubai on the weekend? Word is you and the missus gave the feds the slip by a matter of minutes. Well done...

From the sidelines looks more than adequate. Even though bernies went down, more times than not had there hands on the ball first because of his work.

Firstly, he is not our most iconic poster. If pin head and slay muppet are adored by you for both being able to use capitals when typing the word LOSER at the end of every post, then good luck to them.
Brian, you can just keep on posting along, revelling in the good old days when SKOBS at their best were non contenders thanks to your massive contributions, and continue in more recent times to just keep getting caught out by your false past on field exploits and current allegiances.

Can anyone give a report on the Collegians/De La practice game?
Penski,
Collegians were bigger and stronger from all reports and ran out 4-6 goal winners, they performed well in the ressies with only 18 players and won
De La continued with their policy of playing a large number of U/19's in their ones obviously this will not happen during the season
But the boys in purple and gold could impress a few this year.
