Pretty easy round this one, even with two massive games:
Ivanhoe over Trinity - no one actually cares though !
Brighton over Blues (massive game 1) blues don't have enough size to hold the tonners
The old masters - Xavs - comfotableyover the new kids STBMT (massive game 2 - just reckon the tigers may have spent some tickets last week and could be in for a let down)
Scotch - too big and strong for the yound De La
Collegians over Blacks - this may be ugly

OI vs OT - think the home crowd might get them up, just
Blues vs Brighton - bit of a dodgy call, have the feeling a disappointment is looming
Xavs vs St Bedes - I think StB could have a mental block taking on the reigning premiers
De La vs Scotch - an easy pick
Collegians vs Blacks - foregone conclusion unless lightning hits Watts or something (but then he'd be MegaWatts, the unstoppable goalscoring superhero)

Saw a great game at Toorak Park. Much closer than the final score indicated. Think Xavs are on track for another, and STBM can play in a 1st Semi. Good comp this year. Two very good sides will finish 5th and 6th this year. Am thinking it will be Blues and Scotch.

Very close to coming true there CP.
It would have been good to see DLS get some points on the board. They are better than a 0-7 side.

1. Tipsters' bragging is boring - should be on a separate thread.
2. Fantasy football is rubbish - should be banned altogether.
3. I haven't seen enough games to really be up with it and would like more discussion about the teams, players etc to fill those gaps.
4. The Cardinals are looking good from my limited knowledge, perhaps their best team since the Super Scotchies of 1997.

Not really. Scotch had a good couple of sides back then. Their seniors had a lot of depth, and their reserves were undefeated going into the Grand Final. Great effort and something to be proud of!
The fact they turned up to Elsternwick Park on Grand Final day wearing t-shirts with "Super Scotchies - Champions 1997", wasn't such a great effort, or anything to be proud of!
Losing the game by 15 goals was exactly what they deserved!

This forum needed rescuing. I feel it incumbent upon me to help out. Don't worry about St Bedes they are a good little unit. Perhaps a player or two short of a flag this year but certainly will rattle the cages in september. God imagine the nuffies coming out to watch then! Can someone please explain to me what is to be gained from having a forward scout? I know you can plan starting line ups, but surely having a brighton guy with a notebook at T.P is not going to help. What could he be writing? Arnold..Good player, starts in middle. Handley.....good forward player, strong on lead?

They are a very good side, and I think could win it this year.
Was told they had 7 under 19 players in the side that played Xavs on Saturday. Is that true?
As for forward scouting. If St Bedes have one, he should be sacked. Either that or serious questions need to be asked about Beveridge. Arnold is the best and most damaging on-baller in the competition. He would have had 25 touches by half-time, and no player went near him. Finished with 40 plus and 6 goals. Go as far as to say he was the difference.
Liked the way the Tigers played, and they are obviously pretty confident with their abilities, but you have to pay respect to your opposition.

Soupsey my good friend I can only assume you are kidding. From memory, and correct me if I'm wrong here, you guys wrote the book when it comes to scouting other teams. Any team stupid enough to let match reports out of the club can only blame themselves. If they happen to land in the hands of the opposition....good luck to them. Generally for this to happen there needs to be a mole amongst the ranks to let the cat out of the bag. Just ask Marlon Samuels.

the point was more of saying that soupsey was a little off the mark for paying out that we had a forward scout at one of their games... personally, i think its stupid if you dont try and get a forward scout for whoever your playing the following week, a little insight into set plays and who is in form always helps...

Aren't these two comments a little contradictive. Its a game of inches these days. Im sure soupsey having someone present at a training session would not have been a first and probably not the last. Have a look at the extent melbourne went too during last week. They dressed a scout up as a construction worker to spy on hawthorn out at waverly. It nearly paid off. Maybe you should keep an eye out this week. Word is the guy strapping ankles on thursday might not be who he says he is.

Wouldn't waste too much time with that stuff. It can distract from the task at hand. The point was and still is there is no point worrying about the opposition if you aren't totally sure your team mates can do the job. It does make interesting reading though to see what your opponents coaching staff thinks of us players the week before a grand final! Not that it matters.

The printing of a match report is hardly a tactic that would be planned by any team or coach. As previously mentioned, if a club is stupid enough to let that sort of infomation out the door of the club and have it land in the oppositions lap, what team wouldn't print it out and have a gander.

Don't feel bad for having a forward scout Hater. Everyone does it. One would be pretty nieve to think it doesn't happen everywhere. The archer/stevens rumour is a good one. Does it have any credence behind it. N Buckley, well time will tell with that one. What about Wayne Carey joining M Voss's coaching panel on the gold coast? Sorry Fwit, not over yet - All I want to know is why did you have to mention the "STAR" that didn't play? Did it have an affect on the result or were you just reminding us who he is?

Not a chance. What are Caulfield, as well as the two players in question, trying to prove here? Hope The Fly's got someone to cover 'em.
1 game = 1 year of education at CGS? so 12 or 13 games should cover it yeah? might have left their run a little too late if their planning on only playing 1 year and want a full education..

Since when did this forum degenerate into an argument about a tipping comp? It's as exciting as fantasy football. Where has the opinion, the invective and the discussion gone?
I think Eddie, that your footy club is leading the way in terms of obnoxious and infantile posters at the moment! I think you need to weed out the riffraff and send them back to Burke Hall.

There are easier ways to get into Caulfield on a full scholarship. Being a fourth rate relay runner or reserve triple jumper is usually enough to get you a fully paid gig from at least year six onwards!

Who would be the upset between DLS and Blacks!?
COLL VS UB (Blues have a chance against the Lions, but I'll still go with Collegians in a close one.)
OT VS OS
UB VS DLS (I think DLS have been playing better lately, and will finally break their duck.)

Not sure if you'd call it an upset but I'll back De La to open their account, they've been a bit stiff lately and seem to be traveling better than 0-7 suggests.
What's Old Ivanhoe's Sportscover record like. I've tipped the Tigers, does anyone think the Brown and White are a chance?

na no chance, STBM will have too much run and jazz about them... if it was wet down at the pine, that would be another story...

Phibbs is not making his comeback this week. He has made himself available for the VAFA game in sydney though, told the selection panel that he couldn't train and would just meet them at gate 6 at the airport. However, I hear the team leaves from gate 3. Gate 6 is the 10.00 flight to adelaide - poor little brett!!

Another important round (aren't they all) bu probably more so for those on the lower end of the ladder:
Collegians will account for the students by 42
Scotch over Trinity comfortably - right in the gun now OT
Blacks will open their account against De La by 21
Xavs too good for Brighton - great midfield battle but if Ainley is still out then that tips it well and truly Xavs way - they will win by 37
STBMT too slick at HQ - 45 point win

anyone have any match reports from the weekend?
I was down watching Collegians and Uni Blues on the weekend. One of the more interesting things being at this game was hearing the roar of the crowd from the Junction Oval over the road where Archer and Stevens were playing. I popped my head in for a look and the crowd was huge for an ammo's game.
As to the Lions V Blues game itself, it was the two Watts boys playing in and around each other that was great to watch. Jack was in great form, picking up possessions at will through HB/FB, and close to B.O.G. Fergus of course still had plenty himself to finish with 8. Seemed to be a bit of banter between the two throughout.

An ordinary cat??? Dermott Brereton just called, he wants his saying back. Jack Watts lives on campus at Melbourne Uni. The football ground is less than 20m from where he lives. What an ordinary cat....
