I was down watching Collegians and Uni Blues on the weekend. One of the more interesting things being at this game was hearing the roar of the crowd from the Junction Oval over the road where Archer and Stevens were playing. I popped my head in for a look and the crowd was huge for an ammo's game.

As to the Lions V Blues game itself, it was the two Watts boys playing in and around each other that was great to watch. Jack was in great form, picking up possessions at will through HB/FB, and close to B.O.G. Fergus of course still had plenty himself to finish with 8. Seemed to be a bit of banter between the two throughout.
i just read in the paper that collegians "accidently" had the sprinklers on early saturday morning and caused the center to become very muddy... did this affect the game at all?

It was an absolute disgrace! The bloke responsible is a moron, he was supposed to set the sprinklers to go off for 20 mins sat morning to soften the centre wicket area a bit. He mucked around with the timer on the sprinklers and it looked as though they must have been on for 6 hours instead.

By the time the senior game started the wirngs had dried out however the centre seemed to be like an ice skating rink. It was I can assure you an accident and it unfortunately ruined what were prefect conditions for footy.

Definately was an accident (re:groundsman that has NFI about how an automatic timer works!)

A dry ground would definately have suited the Lions more, but the ground wasn't that bad by game time. Soft underfoot, but not waterlogged by any stretch of the imagination. It had no bearing on the game itself.

Either of the clubs claiming responsibility for their supporters? Is this going to be a cause for concern from the big wigs at EP or they letting it slide through to the keeper with a grin on their faces.

Would have been pretty funny, wasn't exactly warm on sunday either.

An ordinary cat??? Dermott Brereton just called, he wants his saying back. Jack Watts lives on campus at Melbourne Uni. The football ground is less than 20m from where he lives. What an ordinary cat....

that would be incorrect. he does not live on campus any more.

They wern't supporters of either club. Doubt they even knew who was playing or what competition it was. Rolled in from the wick after a 2 day drinking session, just for the streak.

Was at elsternwick park last sunday with my son who is only nine and was disgusted at what i saw when two naked men ran across the field. I was later very disappointed to find out that the person guilty of that act was Beaumaris's own Luke McNicholas. As part of the junior club where iam a current sponsor and my son plays i would hope that the senior committee and leadership group will take some form of action, as i know they have come down very heavily on some players in the past, even kicking them out of the club. Or will this be a another situation where they( the almighty committee) protect another one of their favourite sons. This does not send out a good message the junior kids down at Beaumaris, and i and other parents will think about taking our kids elsewhere.

Coll over OB
SBMT over Blacks

This week or next week 'old blue diamond'?

You never know - a weeks a long time in footy - your coach could swear at the local journo or your star player could request 'a service' from a girl south of the Patto river - events that could turn the season for a few potential finalists.

Take a breather son!

There are definately blokes at the lions who would've loved the chance to play and surely there are some good enough. I said it earlier but how blumfield missed team let alone the sqaud of 40 has me stuffed. Of the others that I believe could be there, there is Baxter, Tardiff who is a young fella but has been dominating off the half back line and holst.

Its a shame that the team sitting on top of the A grade ladder isn't represented in this match.

Looking at the team, it was probably the right decision. Just wasn't a player that jumped straight to mind as the first choice captain of the best team we (VAFA) could field. Having said that, it was not meant to be disrespectful to Hendra, as he is a quality player.

Obviously he was the first player you thought of, but just wasn't mine.

Match report from the main State game in Sydney...on Big Footy a day BEFORE the VAFA website. Lift your game VAFA!!!
Vic Amateurs outlast AFL Sydney in thriller

http://www-static.sportingpulse.com/pics/55/62/5562896_firstImageIMG.jpg

Victorian Amateurs (VAFA) held of a late AFL Sydney charge to win the Representative match at Henson Park by five points today, 13.8.86 to 11.15.81.
Played in overcast and ocassional drizzly conditions, on a fanatastic playing surface, AFL Sydney kicked the first goal of the game through a Mark Skuse snap. VAFA hit back with goals to Leigh Hendra, Justin Arnold, Adam Pirrie and Andrew McGuiness. AFL Sydney were working hard with Declan Donohue and Phill Entwisle doing a fine job in defence and Dwain Watkins was tireless in the middle. An excellent snap from Dane Rampe and a scrambling goal from Alex Lee saw the home side go into the first break trailing by just seven points.
The second term saw AFL Sydney gain the ascendancy with Luke Jarjoura and Jason Coulloupas starting to take control of the centre whilst Angus Darling was nullifying the impact of the VAFA bigmen. Troy Luff moved forward in the second term and responded with two goals from strong marks. Matt Carey also proved dangerous around goals and managed to kick two goals for the tem which saw Sydney open up a 22 point lead. The VAFA managed to kick two late goals through the agency of McGuiness and Marty Pask and reduce the gap to 10 points at the long break. Sydney suffered a blow in the second term with Troy Bartlett being forced out of the game with a corked thigh.
VAFA came out after half time full of fire and took control of the game, dominating the stoppages and were able to kick three goals for the quarter through Pirrie, Mark Paterson and Ben Doherty. strong defnesive work also prevented AFL Sydney from kicking a goal in the third quarter and the visitors led by six points at the final change. Sydney can thank the defensive work of Entwisle, Donohue, David Coupe, skipper Alastair Richardson, Kieran Wright and Chris Noordhoff to remain in touch with one quarter to go.
Coach Danny Ryan urged his charges to keep working hard however the visistors got the important first goal of the last quarter through Arnold's second. A snap goal from Pirrie saw the VAFA extend the lead to three goals however Sydney were not done yet. Jon Vlatko kicked a goal from a mark following an excellent smother from Rampe to keep them in touch, and this was followed by a goal to Rampe. The VAFA responded with goals to Doherty and an excellent goal on the run from Patterson saw them extend the lead to 17 points with five minutes to play. Sydney refused to give in and when Darling and Vlatko both goaled from marks the difference was just five points. Sydney were able to gain possession and Richardson marking 70 metres out from goal, unfortunately the siren sounded at this point. Richardson had a unlikely shot for goal after siren however the distance was too great and the VAFA had recorded a five point victory.
V.A.F.A 4.3 6.4 9.6 13.8 (86)
AFL Sydney 3.2 7.8 7.12 11.15 (81)
Goals:
VAFA - Pirrie 3, McGuiness 2, Arnold 2, Doherty 2, Paterson 2, Pask, Hendra
AFL Sydney - Vlatko 2, Rampe 2, Carey 2, Luff 2, Skuse, Lee, Darling

The VAFA were lucky to win that game...VERY lucky to win that game indeed. But it amazes me why the VAFA refuses to put up the details of the Senior team's win over AFL Sydney, when the other two teams (C-D4, Under 19) had their match details put up on the VAFA website within hours of that match concluding. Is this a sign that the VAFA is not taking rep footy as seriously as it once used to be?

I must admit, I do agree with you regarding players copping it on these threads when they are unable to reply... I dont think it happens much in the A section thread, but have seen it a bit in the B and C threads..

although I've heard a little too much about Paul Groves and his dog tinkerbell in the past, but I dont think thats much the same...

let me ask you though hornet, when do you think its appropriate to discuss individual players on here? Or do you think they should not be discussed at all, as not every comment is always going to be a positive one..?

No mate I was talking about the AFL forums there, in regards to the recent controversy to blokes potting young AFL players on forums.

Ours is pretty tame, let's face it. If you're not being paid the last thing you want is some numbnut getting into you on the 'net! It's got a bit heated at times, usually when someone gets belted and the stuff about AJAX seems pretty nasty but on the whole, VAFA posters are a gentlemanly lot!

SBMt smashed the Blacks by 86 points at Brindisi this arvo. 22.21.153 to 10.7.67. Hard to believe it was only 4 points the diff at half time, and only because Huw Lacey hit the post from 55 out after the bell.

Really disappointed with the Blacks today. They were right in it at half time as I said, but they spent too much time arguing the point with umpires, SBMT players and people over the fence after that. They totally dropped their bundle, and by the last stanza, the Tigs were literally doing as they pleased.

Marty Pask looked like he was going to win the game for them off his own boot in the first term, but barely had a touch after that, and spent a fair bit of the second half on the pine. Don't know if he was injured or not, but it looked to me that the Black boys had thrown in the towel at that stage.

St Bedes used their superior strength and hardness at the contest to bring Blacks into submission, after spending most of the first half piss farting around with it.

The Trinity players were kept in the rooms for around 2 hours after there loss to De La last Sat.

Once the Coach had finished ripping though them, (which a witness from outside said was reasonably entertaining) all the members of the committee went round to the players and gave them there 2 cents aswell.

So my answer to question 2. Vafa Guru

FROM VAFA website:

Beaumaris AFC charged with conduct unbecoming in that their registered player Luke McNicholas, did allegedly not behave in a manner fitting the ethos of the VAFA during the Old Ivanhoe versus St. Bedes Mentone Tigers match on Sunday June 1.
Charge proven.
1. Player, Luke McNicholas suspended for two weeks (rounds 9 and 10).
2. Luke must act as either goal umpire, timekeeper, interchange steward for Beaumaris reserves for the next five weeks (rounds 11 to 15).
3. Letter of apology (as approved by VAFA CEO) – to VAFA, VAFAUA, Old Ivanhoe, St Bedes Mentone Tigers

What a crack up!! Wasnt there 2 people that did the dash?

Fair penalty, though I still think he should have got off.

crikey! that's a massive penalty.. 2 weeks suspension and 5 weeks of "helping out" to boot!!

besides, I thought he is a reserves player?? how can he be goal ump, timekeep or interchange steward while playing for 5 weeks??

don't want to dwell on the past, but funny how you can get away with headbutting someone in-front of an ump during the semi's '07 but doing a streak gets you 2 weeks plus 5 "good behaviour" weeks...

poor decision VAFA :thumbsd:

To ask Luke McNicholas to either do the interchange, goal umpire duties, timekeeping after his 2 game sentence is up, and also to write a letter to the VAFA, VAFAUA, Old Ivanhoe & St Bedes Mentone Tigers is a little over the top by the VAFA. Also interesting to note that Luke McNicholas, according to the VAFA 'did allegedly not behave in a manner fitting the ethos of the VAFA'-that's the first time I've heard something like that. Wonder what the 'ethos of the VAFA' mean?? BTW, could Luke McNicholas appeal against the sentence handed down to him by the VAFA investigations committee?

Edward,

I apologise if I have offended you in some way. In my defence i state the following:

Whilst you are correct that the most commonly used defenition for a 'couple' is two, it is not totally inappropriate for it to refer to 3 or even 4.

Secondly, I had seen Bolton named in the two's on the vafa site but was so stunned I thought it may have been an error.

If that doesn't please you then please refer to the ultimate haters response to your post, thanks for the support UH.

Onto other matters, guru knows for a fact that members of the VAFA executive were at the streaking game and identified the player on the spot. He didn't need to be dobbed in.
