I play for a pretty good side, always in the top half of the competition.

For oneday games, Im the 5th or 6th (if needed) bowler and i bat around 7th-9th.

I would like peoples thoughts on if i you think i should zone-in on my batting or bowling. Im never going to be a strike bowler as im medium pace( realisticly i would rate myself a 6-7/10) and i will never be an opening batter as my average would be maybe 20(remember i bat down the order) with a strikerate of around 70-75.

Im sick of not being recognised as a bowler or batter, even though i am no way near the worst on the team. Should i focus on batting to be a batting-allrounder or bowling-allrounder?

Cheers

There's nothing worse than not being recognised for your talents mate. I actually used to bat in the top 4 in our 1sts but never got a bowl because as a junior, I couldn't bowl & that reputation just sticks with you at a club. I worked on my bowling for 3-4 years & in that time I dropped myself down to the 2nds to captain the side & that allowed me to get a bowl - I won the bowling average in the comp for the 2nds & since then, I have bowled regularly in our 1sts. But now I bat at 10 or 11. So figure that out!!!!

I bat at 10 or 11 and don't get a bowl, despite improving my wrist spinners heaps due to a lot of practice.

All of this stems from under16s and I am playing third or fourth season of senior cricket in the lower grades.

i played for a team where i would bowl 5th/6th change and not bat, because i was crap when i started playing for them and they just remembered me for it, i changed clubs to get a fresh start at a better team. I now open the bowling and bat no.5 - first impressions mean everything

If you're good at nothing just call yourself an allrounder :) What level do you play at? If you can go lower, go down a level and see if you get a bowl.

If you are never going to be a strike bowler, then I would focus on my batting.
you dont have to open just turn yourself into a middle order player who can come on and bowl every so often

Sounds like me, I hate it, last year he used to bowl the opening batsman who was a crap bowler ahead of me, he either bowled or kept, and he sucked at both, lucky he could bat :p

I have a pretty good strike rate and economy rate when bowling, but I bowl well 1 week, its another few weeks before I get a bowl, its a pain in the ass. The worst was last year in the final, we lost, I was not out and didnt get a bowl. At tea I was told warmup, you are bowling straight after the break, 30 overs later our season was over and I hadnt bowled a ball, I was in great form as well and topped it off with a superb training session before the game, oh well, spinners arent treated well by their captains at local level

Last week it took us 65 overs to clean up a ******** side, they werent making runs but the bowlers werent taking wickets, but he goes back to the first 4 bowlers and rotates them, when he is desperate, throws the ball to me, game over 1 over later

With batting its tough, I usually come in with like 2-3 overs left, I go down swinging. When I come in with a lot of time left when I was moved up to the ******** team (Thats how weird out structure was, we were better than the team above us) I would usually have about 40 overs to bat, but because I didnt trust the other batsman, and didnt give a ******** about winning as they won 1 game, tied 1, lost the rest over a 2 year period, I would go down swinging and usually make 15-20

I cant wait for the day we collapse and I have 20-25 overs to bat with a batsman at the other end, then maybe I can move up the order

Im thinking of changes clubs as i think as someone said, first impressions last. In my first year i was batting 9-10th and bowled maybe a total of 15 overs in 8 games.

Last time I played I opened the bowling and batting in the 3rds yet never got moved up even though i had the best average for both so i gave it away.

up until i stop playing luscombe shield i was batting 5-6 th and bowling 1 st change(fast/medium)

work on ur fundementals first, as long as your not playin 1 day games 40 runs from 100 deliveries is better than 20 off 20.
