What's everyone's thoughts on this guy?
I don't want to come across as being biased, but I genuinely believe he'll be in the national squad within two years. The guy is an absolute star.
Was the under 19 captain, but I believe he ran into a team-mate while batting, and was subsequently injured. Since then, hasn't really missed a blink.
Really love watching him play for SA. Excellent stroke-play. Very strong off-side player.

The next steve waugh.
Good technique. Mark Waugh-esque off the pads.
Would like to see him make some big scores before we start talking up his international credentials.
Potential Australian captain.
Of course, Michael Clarke has basically got dibs on it... but I think Ferg is far more of a natural leader, both by example and his chat.

My thoughts on him are well known, I've talked him up for a while.
But on the downside I'd say,
Prone to being too attacking. Even in one-day cricket.
Has a few technique issues he seemingly needs to correct, eg; inswinging deliveries from out-side the off peg at a good length.
As DW said, hasn't shown the mental capacity (not that he's had the chance) to knock up a big one yet.
Other things from memory, not sure on the stats but seems to get run out a little too much for my liking.
The pro's have already been listed; age, ability, performance, leadership etc.
Averaged around 40 last season which is an outstanding acheivement for a 19 year old. Needs to kick on this season and at the very minimum score at least 500 runs in the Pura Cup. Don't know what he got last year, but providing he stays injury free should score at least 50 more runs for the season.
Small steps people. He's young, talented etc. But he's yet to figure in the A' set-up as yet (wouldn't be surprised if he gets a gig against one of the touring sides this year).

As is Cameron White
I dont know why Clarke is talked as the next captain, cant see any leadership qualities in him
As for Ferguson, keep hearing him talked up all the time, keep expecting big things yet never seems to do anything
Obviously I dont follow SA game by game, so dont go bringing up examples, but as someone said you would want him performing well for SA before talking up his national chances, only Richie Benaud does that and he talks about kids still playing grade cricket in Sydney

Yes, like averaging 39 and making 2 centuries in his first year of Pura Cup cricket. How pitiful.

Definate International Player in the future.
I clamed him the first time I saw him in an ING Cup match, :)

Anyway, maybe this is why he hasnt seen Ferguson do anything, because, well against Victoria, he hasnt
First CLass
Victoria 2 4 0 105 46 26.25 0 0 0
One Day
Victoria 4 4 0 101 58 25.25 0 1 1

Interesting, another future superstar boosting his average against WA ;)

The poster was saying they have never seen Ferguson do anything great, so obviously they wouldnt have seen Fergusons only 50 against Victoria as it was in Adelaide
With so little domestic coverage, its hard to get excited over a player who never makes runs when he comes to your home state, maybe thats why some WA fans love Watson so much, only state he makes runs in

What are you suggesting??
Im a fan of this kid and hopefully he can be a replacement for Martyn in a few years. Plays alot on his offside so is fairly similar to Martyn,

NO
He/she said, direct quote: "As for Ferguson, keep hearing him talked up all the time, keep expecting big things yet never seems to do anything."
Has absolutely nothing to do with whether they explicitly saw him do anything.
Clearly said poster has not been paying attention, in saying he doesn't ever seem to do anything, which couldn't be further from the truth, so I took it upon myself to educate it.

And my next sentence was I dont follow SA game by game, so what it means is anytime I check the SA games, he usually doesnt make many runs, so often I look at SA collapsing, oh well Ferguson might make runs, doesnt. Anytime he plays Victoria, he has done nothing.

Nah don't worry, he will... eventually. He's just typically spanning it out over 50 posts.

It was a personal reference in case you haven't read up on the context.
If he's gonna attack me personally, he better have a good argument ready.

The guys only 20 and has had a fairly impressive season with the bat with the 'backs. Should be interesting to see how quickly he improves to become a top-class batsman - as he has the ability to become a star international once he matures.
I see him a possible replacement to Ponting in the number 3 spot. Not the captaincy though, because he needs to earn his trade with the aussie team for a few years, as every other captain has done in the past.

It was 3am, I came across a bit strong, guess what I was getting at is you get plenty of players at District level who look like superstars, great technique, cant even cut it at State level.
The best way to judge a player is how they perform at the top level

If you have sen much of him, you can't make valid comments about his talent! A few games here and there wont tell you much. Ive seen the kid play since he was 16 back in A Grade and he has steadily developed and matured. Great cover drive, uses wrists very well, sees the ball well and chooses his shots pretty well. Only query atm is that he gets bowled a fair bit.

I saw that 50 live. Was in his 3rd or 4th game from memory.
He was smashing the ball thruoght the offisde along the ground
Victoria had three fielders between point and cover and he kept picking the gaps. Hs also hit a huge six down the ground.
He has huge potential. Of course like all 20 year olds he has some technique problems but nothing to worry too much abuot.
He is a few years away from Australian selection but I am looking forward to seeing a lot of him this year starting with Friday night.

That six also hit the ING sign IIRC. Not only is he strong, but accurate! ;)
I like this kid, good attitude unlike these current Australian team.
