The best bowling figures for a current Australian test player (in the side vs West Indies):

G. McGrath: 8/24
S. Warner: 8/71
M. Clarke: 6/9
S. Katich: 6/65
B. Lee: 5/47
N. Bracken: 2/12
R. Ponting: 1/0
S. Watson: 1/32

Interesting to note that our middle order batsmen have decent best for bowling figures. Maybe that's what's keeping them in the side. Still, it doesn't say much about Lee.

And wasn't it on debut? If that's the case, expect to see Michael Clarke around for a long time...

It was indeed his first match...not come close to it in the last five years.

Clarke- the shocking pitch in India- Katich- don't remember his.

The stats mean little for those last two

Katich was on a raging SCG turner against Zimbabwe, says alot for Hogg when Katich overtook him as main spinner in that game

And I remember atleast a couple were deep on the midwicket fence

The other key is Zimbabwe....the reason Hayden's 380 rates so low on the charts for batting performances....might as well have been playing a minor county....

How many other players have scored 300 against the zimbos?

Good to see Katich and Clarke have their names in record books as bowlers, because I doubt they ever will as batsmen. Their dismissals in the 1st Innings were two of the softest outs I can recall in 40 years of watching Test Cricket.

Yeah Clarkes 150 on debut wouldn't be in any sort of record book?

People don’t seem to remember that katich was considered a huge gamble, he replaced love as something of a second spinner/batsman for the scg test against Zimbabwe, he really hasn’t bowled since then and hasn’t held his spot as a top 6 batter either.

Doesn't matter who against , you still have to make them .

i will agree that Katich's dismissal was soft, but Clarke got a ripper. a few off cutters to soften him up, then a leg cutter pitched perfectly..... very hard to play.....

and Brian Lara's 500 runs in a 1st Class game also rates low because it was against a County team
