Geelong Football Club today confirmed Gary Ablett junior had been recruited to the club under the father/son rule.
“We have signed Gary to a three-year deal,” the club’s chief executive officer, Brian Cook said. “In return for recruiting him under the father/son rule we have had to give up our third round draft pick.”
Gary Ablett junior is the fourth current Geelong player recruited under the father/son rule, joining Marc Woolnough, David Clarke and Matthew Scarlett.
Gary Ablett senior played 242 games for Geelong and kicked 1021 goals. He was included in the club’s Team of the Century earlier this year.
Geelong Football Club will not be making Gary Ablett junior available for media interviews at this stage. He is not expected to begin training with the club until after the national draft late next month.

It's no great surprise, but are we excited by the news? Let's hope getting Gary Ablett on our list will lift the club for the year ahead.
I've heard a few different things about whether or not he'll take the #5 guernsey. Would it be a wise thing for him to do at this stage? I think he may as well take it, seeing as we've kept it for him all this time.
