Very unsure where some of these figures are coming from re Strathy recruits. Maskell isnt even coming to Strathy, think he's off to the Purples. Dont care who tells you the figures, they are very inaccurate and exaggerated.
Maskells uncle if heavily involved at the purples so there is a good chance of him going there

What's the go with Barooga? Obviously the drought isn't affecting their spending. On O&M and GV threads there is players going to them from Yarrawonga, Wangaratta, Shepparton, Mooroopna, Seymour to name a few. :thumbsd:
With all their imports from last season, the locals must be getting pretty pissed off, with all these outsiders coming in for one or two years, taking all the cash and nicking off. They might find themselves in the same boat as Jerilderie in the 80's & 90's. Win a premiership with imports, piss all the locals off and watch the club self destruct in years to come.:(
We can only hope!:)

I think you will find some of the locals are already heading out to the Hoppers in the PDFL.
Also, not sure if it has been posted on here or not, but Shaun Robbins who won the Mooroopna B and F a few years ago is heading to Barooga.

Barooga probably don't get any more recruits than most other clubs going around. The difference is that they generally get QUALITY recruits. They were accused of "doing a Jerilderie" in the mid 90's when they won a few flags (where in reality they had more locals than most clubs, just some outstanding recruits) but the club never self destructed then and it won't now. Show me a premiership winning club without a nice sprinkling of recruits - very rare. Good luck to them. Well run club with some good people with $ backing from the Sports Club there, but not as much as most think.

Stint with Echuca off the cards as Whyman heads west
Former Echuca star Djaran Whyman has signed with East Perth after being de-listed by North Melbourne.
The 24-year-old, who made his AFL debut earlier this year, was hotly pursued by a number of Goulburn Murray clubs, but put pen to paper with the Royals last week.
Ending weeks of speculation over his playing future, the small forward inked a two-year deal which will tie him to the club until the end of the 2009 season.
While Whyman hadn't committed to Echuca, he intimated earlier this month that a return to the Murray Bombers was on the cards.
"I'm back home in Echuca now," Whyman said.
"I think I am done playing VFL or anything like that.
"I haven't talked to any clubs yet; obviously one of my good mates Rhys (Archard) is back in town so there might be a bit of a leaning towards Echuca."
Despite Whyman's about-face, the Murray Bombers appear to be shaping up for a crack at their first Goulburn Valley Football League premiership in six years.
With Steven Orr at the helm, Echuca has signed former Sydney draftee Guy Campbell and is hot on the heels of South Adelaide's Scott McGlone and Josh Maddox.

Any chance of the younger Brennan coming back from Rushworth?

Don't think GV is on his radar, Murray League is still major league footy and as Tongala is his home club I doubt that he would move across to the GV. Not a matter of being content running around in the Murray League there is still some very good sides and players that can test him week in week out.
I am sure some success(Finals) would be more important to him and hopefully that is just around the corner.
We are hopeful Keiran Brennan might return to Tongala, I am sure he will at some stage whether that be next year or not I do not know.

Power-ful signing at Rumba
By Richard Goodbody
Rumbalara dropped a bombshell on its rivals yesterday when it signed former Port Adelaide onballer Derek Murray for next season.
The lightning-fast midfielder, who was selected by the Power with the 54th pick at the 1998 National Draft, played 23 AFL games before being delisted at the end of 2002.
Having relocated to Shepparton recently, the 27-year-old said he was looking forward to lining up with his new club as it chases its first Murray Football League premiership.
"I can't wait to play with Rumba," Murray said.
"It looks like it's going to be a good year. They've already signed two or three and if we can secure a couple more, then we're going to be going pretty well.
"I think our first preseason run is on November 15 and then we're going to do a boot camp.
"I'm just itching to get out there."
With the ink still drying on Murray's signature, Rumbalara will now turn its attentions to securing a senior coach.
According to club president Paul Briggs, Rumba will not be rushed into making a hasty decision, preferring instead to bide its time in order to find the right candidate.
"We're really excited about having Derek come in," Briggs said.
"We've had two years in the Murray Football League and we're steadily improving and we think Derek can help with that.
"We're talking to a number of people (about the coaching position), but it's important we find the right person and we don't rush it.
"We're looking for good people managers, that's our prerequisite."
While Briggs confirmed the club had spoken to former St Kilda star Gilbert McAdam, who is based in Shepparton, about the position, a final decision will not be made until the comings weeks.

Recruits to lift Hawks
By Richard Goodbody
Barooga's premiership quest appears on track after the Hawks unveiled three bluechip recruits yesterday.
Less than eight weeks after Nathalia ended their fairytale run in the Murray Football League Grand Final, the Hawks have signalled their intentions for next year by signing Mooroopna's Shaun Robbins, Shepparton's Brent Chapman and Yarrawonga's Dallas Gallagher.
In a major coup, the trio will add some much-needed size to the Hawks' outfit, which is trying to break the Purples' recent stranglehold on the competition's holy grail.
"We've picked up a couple of handy ones," Barooga coach Matt Byers said.
"Shaun will play centre half-back for us, while Brent will be a great asset to the midfield.
"He's got silky skills and he can run and carry the ball.
"Dallas is a big fella as well. He's six-footfour and will line up at centre half-forward."
During a decorated career at Mooroopna, Robbins, who claimed the Cats' best-andfairest in 2003, has been one of the Goulburn Valley's most lethal bigmen and will find a handy ally in Chapman.
The classy onballer, who has more than 100 senior games next to his name, has explosive pace and will be well suited to the Murray league's huge grounds.
Rounding out the trio is Gallagher.
The former Pigeon was a genuine star in Ovens and Murray Football League and is hopeful of enticing his brothers, Zach and Chris, to the Hawks' ranks as well.
"It's great to get a couple of early signatures," Byers said.
"Hopefully it encourages a few others to jump onboard.
"We weren't that far off last year, so hopefully it shows a few who are considering playing for us that we're serious about winning a premiership."

Ex-Bulldogs are enticed to return to the pack
Tocumwal best-andfairest winner Ben Margery will return to Wodonga next year.
Earlier this week it was announced that Margery and Scott Clancey would both rejoin the Bulldogs after spending the past two seasons in Murray Football League.
Bulldogs coach Jarrod Twitt said the pair had been on Wodonga's recruiting radar ever since they departed the kennel.
He said the Bulldogs' efforts in making the preliminary final had convinced the pair that the club wasn't far off tasting success.
"They are going to be fantastic, they are Wodonga boys so it will be good to have them back around the place," Twitt said.
"We've been trying to get them back for the last couple of years and it just hasn't worked.
"This year they are keen to come back after watching our finals series and they are good mates with a lot of the boys playing here already."
Margery was one of the hard luck stories of the Bulldogs' droughtbreaking premiership in 2004.
Having played in Wodonga's losing 2003 grand final team, he made some appearances for the senior team the following year but fell out of favour at the pointy end of the season.
"He is a hardrunning midfielder who will come back to us a more experienced and better player," Twitt said.
"He has got a dangerous left foot and he will complement our midfield well."
Clancy was among the Bulldogs' best in the 2004 premiership, restricting then Hoppers star - now coach - Travis Hodgson's impact on the game to almost non-existent.
"With Scott back it just means that we can start being a bit more flexible," Twitt said.

Lee has Blood pumping
By Richard Goodbody
Lee Warnett has committed to Tocumwal and will take over the reins of the club.
The Tatura premiership hero - who finished second in the Bloods' best-andfairest this year - will succeed Gary Downie, who did not seek a second term in charge.
Since making his debut with the Bloods, the 25-year-old has electrified the Murray Football League and is looking forward to the challenge.
"It should be good," he said.
"I enjoyed myself at Tocumwal this year and have really enjoyed the culture.
"We didn't win as many games as we would have liked, but I'm hopeful of retaining most of our list and hopefully we can add a few.
"We need a couple of key position players and we're currently speaking to three or four."
While Jarrod Pollard and best-and-fairest winner Sean Logie are currently living in Melbourne, Warnett said he was confident of retaining the talented duo, as well as adding some bigger bodies.
One name linked to the club is former AFL utility Anthony Mellington, who stood down as coach of Shepparton in August.
The former Fitzroy and North Melbourne player would be a quality player in the MFL, but Warnett was keeping tight-lipped.
"I haven't spoken to Mel," Warnett said.
"I've heard he doesn't want to coach, but he might want to have a run and we'd be happy to have him.
"I'll probably have a chat to him at some stage."
The Bloods are scheduled to kick off their Murray league campaign against Barooga on April 5 next year.

There is a big chance Tyson will join his cousins Lee and Ben at Tocumwal in 2008. But as you said, pending his chances to be rookie listed. He is a very slick and clean footballer and will slot into the Bloods' midfield well.

Sexton announced his retirement from football to the playing group after Finley's elimination final loss to Echuca United.
Guy Campbell has left the MFL to play with Echuca in the GVFL, Mulwala have lost a few, and I dare say Tocumwal, Rumbalara and Finley may lose a couple of blokes aswell.
I suppose having a few blokes return to the Ram's pen in 2008 will be a positive, but will they be enough to rise to the top and snatch the premiership from Nathalia? Who will be returning? Bull and Marshall from Balranald?

Agreed!
Money? To possibly Dominate? some people would probably think that but after talking to him when i saw him on Saturday night i don't think it has anything to do with it. According to him alot of people have put him in the Bloods jumper when he said he still hasnt made a decision. Interesting enough he mentioned that its a big decision as he would be droping a level and he realises that to be playing with his cousins. Only time will tell us where he will play.

Ah, my mistake. Thanks Homer. Any other recruits or players returning mate?
Maybe a few others to return, but no star recruits and after a better than expected year last year we are hoping to build on the foundations that were put in place with the kids that came up and the feeling is terrific around the place atm. Lot of the kids you see in the gym and running around the streets in the hope of gaining senior selection next year and building on their body strengh which was a bit light on this year, but that will come as they grow, average age in the seniors this year was 20, so something to build on for next year. The boys are very keen and will go well with the current attitude that they all have. Being up here we cannot afford to pay big dollars and rely heavily on the up and coming kids, of which we were all very proud of this year, great coach, great committee, things on the way up again. :thumbsu:

Can't give any info on moama, but i think they will need a bit more than $100,000 to get near Nathalia, Barooga and Mulwala. They were smashed by an average of nearly 100 points each time they played these three teams. Good on the bloke if its true for trying to help his team restore some success.
Campbell gone to Echuca, Don't think Jones will be there think he wants to play with his mates at Locky not sure bout the rest will have to ask willo1.
Cobram have got three very good players back to there club in Rudd x 2 and Bourke. But i think Barooga might have pipped them so far with Robbins from Mooroopna and Gallagher from Yarra, also have picked up Chapman from Shepp but don't know much about him.
Barooga have also been linked in talks with Scanlon from Seymour (if they get him good luck to the blokes that will be playing on him if you can keep him to 30 touches count that as a good day very handy footballer) and also Allen from Shepp who was a team mate of Byers.
Also i think Congupna may be the ones to hold everybody up this year. Few whispers that they may have lost another three players, on top of Terance Toohey and Jason Wells going back to Shepp Bears,

Few whispers that they may have lost another three players, on top of Terance Toohey and Jason Wells going back to Shepp Bears,
That is because Congupna aren't quite up to Murray League. They do a great job don't get me wrong, it is just that they are trying to pull players from a town that supports 6 major league clubs directly and 30+ minor league clubs. They have gone through cycles over the last 10 years of up and down, not being able to keep a group together long enough to shake off peoples thoughts, like myself, that they are not quite there.

Cobram have also got Joel Price who played for Yarrawonga in their premiership season, and there are a couple more. ;)

Chewy would tear the Murray League a new one. The bloke is an absolute gun and would die of leather poisoning if he plays in a Minor League.
As for the supporter who paid $100k, the hydroponic crop market must have been good this year. To pump that much into a club who clearly is off the pace in all aspects, lets hope they only get beaten by 85 points this year.
Mark Brown leaving Numurkah for Rochester?
just a quick congratulations to Jarrod Atkinson for being given a chance to train with the Essendon Bombers from Murray FL to AFL in two years is not a bad effort. No promises but might just pip Rex Taylor as Rumbalara's next AFL product.

Would he get a game for them Hank if he did head to rochy? When we played them (numurkah) this year he didn't get a kick.
Have you added anymore recruits to you list for next season hank? I hear that Kieran Brennan might be playing for you guys next year or will he head to Ky with Scotty?

Here here, good luck to him with it - must say I was impressed with the young fella back in the old CGFL days :thumbsu:

Carter to skip bombers
Wednesday, 2 April 2003

NICK Carter will lead the newly-formed Bendigo Bombers in their debut VFL season.
Carter was last night appointed captain of the Bombers at the club's season launch, while forward Mark Brown was installed as his deputy.
Surely he hasn't lost that much form in five years. I think he's still under 30

He was/is a gun, has been injury prone over the past couple of years and seemed to be just swinging it on ability alone at Numurkah. Would need to put in a solid pre-season to get the best out of himself (as most of us do), would be early 30's now so whether he has the drive to do that I don't know, was leading goalkicker for Sydney reserves in 1998 from memory.
If fit will be a handful in the GV.

yes he is quality footballer. He would be an early tip for the league B&F. He gets 30 - 40 possies a week in the GV so you would expect the same in the Murray league and im not saying the Murray league standard is better or even as good as the GV but don't think he will find that there will be alot of difference in the opponents that he will be attracting. The top line players in the Murray league are just as good asa the top line players in the GV there is just not as many of them. Would be one of the prize recruits of the season in any league.

"very big news coming out of benalla over the weekend mick stevens will be a saint in 2008"
If this true there would be some pissed off people in the den you would reckon after allegedly forking out a heap of money ( rumours were a house on the lake, a job and match payments).
That now leaves Mul without Lamberti (retiring someone posted) Kennedy (step down from coaching to look after business interests also rumoured to be signing with tungamah) Lee James (someone posted returning home) and Stevens (going to Benalla if true) four big names going or gone. where will this leave Mul

i wouldnt say the road isn't up too the Murray League, the last 2 years made finals and finished 7th the year before that. All clubs have periods of sucess and periods were they struggle. Although a couple have left there is still a nucleous of players there to push to make the 6, you got remember there is still 4 months to round 1.

My arguement is that their are too many major league teams in Shepparton. Very high operating costs in a major league and I just get a bit suspicious that Congupna are finding the laying of a foundation a little tough at the moment. Nucleus seems to be based on guys that sort of waltz in and waltz out in a year or two.
Yes, a very proud club doing its best to become a force.

I agree, but it seems to be the story everywhere. We at Rumba face the same sort of dilema. It's not so much the players leaving us, but more attracting other players, different players or different people. There's what, 3 leagues drawing players out of the region? 4 if you include the Picola League. And dispite all the bu##$hit previously in the paper, we don't much money. certainly not enough to offer quality players individual "contracts" as such. And in my opinion to get anywhere in this league you need $$$$$. Other clubs around the area have buisness owners, people with pull, involved in one way or another with thier club and it makes recruiting/keeping players and just generally running a club all that more easier. But not to be defeated we (and congupna) will do the best with what we've got come round 1.
Saints snare Stevens after long courtship By Richard Goodbody
Benalla's premiership odds have been slashed following yesterday's signing of former Kangaroos onballer Michael Stevens.
During the past three years, the Saints have worked feverishly to land the fleet-footed midfielder, but have been unsuccessful up until now.
Adding genuine speed to the Saints' engine room, Stevens will link up with his brother Brendan, who is the captain of the club's senior side.
"It's a great signing," star forward Ricky Symes said.
"We've chased Mick pretty hard for three years now and finally we've got him across the line.
"We probably identified our midfield as one area that needed strengthening and Mick will certainly do that.
"Kasey Robertson is back and he'll be a very good key position player, but Mick gives us some genuine toe in the midfield."
Since being delisted by the Roos at the end of 2005, Stevens, who was originally drafted by Port Adelaide with the fourth selection at the 1998 National Draft, has spent the past two years playing with Murray Football League powerhouse Mulwala.
During his seven-season AFL career, Stevens played 17 games for the Power, including the 2002 preseason premiership, before being traded to the Kangaroos where he played a further 44 matches.
With the ink still drying on the 27-year-old's contract, Benalla will amp up its pre-season preparations on Monday when Tim Symes takes control of his first training session as Saints coach.
"I think Tim will be great for us," Ricky Symes said.
"He'll create a new level of professionalism for the club, but I think Monday's session might be fairly testing.
"We need it, though."

Gee if all the talks accurate, mulwala's gonna be a really different side next season. seems like everyones leaving. any news on recruites or up and coming players?? Hard to see them doing any better with these loses and no new names.
Hank has Percy decided what he wants to do next year yet??

Yeah mate he signed back on about 3 weeks ago, he wanted to sign before he took off to Darwin. Played Sunday for Southern Districts and kicked 4, see big Jonno is running around up there as well.

Next year could be a lot different, at this early stage it seems every side that didnt make the finals last year is going to improve, The two Grand Finalists look like they will both be hard to beat again, but the sides that finished from 3 to 6 look like they might drop back to the pack below them a bit.
As I said only early days, but the comp does seem as though it is going to be very tight behind those top two.

You can add to those 2 names Jake Cowman, Paul Banch, Chris Kennedy and John Lucas. I got mail that there will be about 15 senior Players leaving.... that is a massive turn over.

wouldn't you get sick of playing there, 4 prelim finals in 4 years. obviously these players want not just finals success but actuall success of a premiership and maybe they feel they can't get it there.
Does all these exits mean they are not happy with the appointment of coach or just want success somewhere.

I would think the coach may struggle without these players and the discipline issues that have sometimes held the club back will need to be rectified-both Mulwala and echuca United appear to have lost a group of quality players
just ask!!!

WHO IS COACHING MUL??
Nathan Parker, has been there a couple of years think he went there when Kennedy first arrived.
Don't think it was a wise move by Mul. Pressure maybe to much for Parker, should have tried to get a non playing coach with experiance to help them get over the line instead of falling just short again. may have also held on to some of the players.
