Nathan Parker, has been there a couple of years think he went there when Kennedy first arrived.
Don't think it was a wise move by Mul. Pressure maybe to much for Parker, should have tried to get a non playing coach with experiance to help them get over the line instead of falling just short again. may have also held on to some of the players.
Surely he couldn't have pissed that many quality players off and still got the job??? It's gotta have something to do with money doesn't it?? (please feel free to speculate, i have.:):))

Personally, I have my doubts if Parker would have the insight and presence to be a good coach. He has played as a loose man in defence in recent years and if u do that week in week out players will soon see through that! Hopefully I'm wrong but I can't see him being the answer nor as good a footy brain as Kennedy

As posted before Lamberti i think is retiring, Kennedy is linked with Tungamah but is leaving Mul to devote more time to business interests.
don't know about money. the main ones that were paid bigger dollars were Stevens (now gone to Benalla with his brother) Lee James ( returning to old club i think) and Cowman i think.
Don't know why Lucas (who has played at yarra mul and cobram), Banch (played at yarra and mul), Ben james ( is he lee's brother maybe he's going home as well) are leaving could be money or could be the success factor as well.
Personally i'm not involved with the club but have spoke to a couple of yarra people and they reckon it wasn't a smart move appointing Parker due to lack of coaching experience.

I would think the coach may struggle without these players and the discipline issues that have sometimes held the club back will need to be rectified-both Mulwala and echuca United appear to have lost a group of quality players
Even though the eagles have lost some good players i would expect them to announce some big signing's before the start of next season. Majority of the players leaving would of been paid i imagine so this will free up money to pay other 1's. And with Coach Heuston having played for Box Hill, VCFL Rep sides he should have a number of quality contacts.
As for Mul perhaps its there time to have a spell down towards the bootom of the ladder. Any news on who's coaching Rumba and Finley??

He has been in talks with toc for a little while, Barooga got wind of this and offered him a fair bit more coin to go to them instead. He should have a decision with in the next week.

Rumours scotched
Goulburn Valley legend Chris Kennedy has denied rumours that he'll be playing for Picola District Football League club Tungamah next season.
Kennedy, who retired in September after four seasons coaching Mulwala, said he had heard the whispers, but wasn't keen to pull the boots back on at this stage.
"I know how these stories come about, I'm married to Rob's (Wren) sister Katrina, and she's going back to play netball there next year," Kennedy said.
"But at this stage I've got no intention of going around again, but I'll probably be there watching the netball."
Wren has taken the reins at Jubilee Park for a second stint as coach, replacing David Putamorsi who has moved to Euroa.
Kennedy led the Lions to four preliminary finals in a row and won five best and fairests with Goulburn Valley club Shepparton United, and if the 34-year-old did take the field for the Bears, it would be a massive coup for the club and the league.
But Kennedy said that was unlikely, despite his brother-in-law pumping up the Bears' tyres.
"I speak to Rob a bit, and he keeps telling me they're going all right," Kennedy said.
"I wouldn't rule it out completely, but at this stage I'm enjoying retirement.
"They body is feeling pretty good and I wouldn't be surprised if come January or February, I might get itchy feet to start playing again.
"But I'm too busy with work and other commitments at the moment to even think about it."

Magpies feather nest
By Richard Goodbody
Moama's premiership stocks continue to soar through the acquisition of former Lancaster star Tom Roberts and Robinvale assistant coach John Harley.
Roberts, who has spent the past few years playing for Aldinga in the South Australianbased Southern Football League, has returned to the Goulburn Murray and will slot nicely into the Magpies' line-up.
Harley, who is a damaging on-baller, will reunite with senior coach Shannon Keam, who led Robinvale last year.
"We've managed to sign up three and we've got another five or so on the go," Moama general manager Rod Toll said.
"Tom's a centre halfback, who's pretty big and is a good player by all reports . . . and John is an in-and-under onballer.
"He's pretty hard at it, so that will be good."
Earlier this week, the Magpies kicked off their pre-season campaign under Keam as they attempt to re-establish themselves as a finals contender.
During the past four years, the Magpies have won just 16 of 64 games and boast a winning percentage of 25.
But with Keam at the helm, they are hoping to reverse their form as they chase an elusive Murray Football League premiership.
"We had 28 at training the other night, which was good," Toll said.
"We've got a couple of exciting players in the pipeline, so hopefully we've got a few more announcements very shortly."
Moama will kick off next season against Finley on April 5

I very much doubt if a premiership is on the horizon! They were a long way off the mark last year and Barooga and Nathalia seem to be getting stronger. I wuld imagine a total of 6-8 wins would be a good result

I agree with you to go from 2 wins this year to a premiership the next would be almost impossible, think they should aim for just outside the finals next year then build for finals the year after.

We also need to take into account that teams such as Toc, Tongala and Rumbalara will also be strengthened so there will be no easy games for any team next year

Might be nearly past his prime though and I wonder why he would'nt return to Deni Rovers as he is a past captain. He signed with Coolamon a few years ago but played one game and returnd to Deni. I thnk Deni may cover him if they get all their locals back.

If Downie can kick 70 goals in the side Toc has this season Mellington will kick 90+ with the side Toc is putting together next year. Cramp is back along with a couple of his mates that are going to travel. Throw is the signings from the Shepp Bears as well and they have already improved.

Who are the Shepp Bears signings??? Are they quality players or are they just fringe senior players
I maybe forgetting a few but out of the G.V recently the only ones who have had an impact on the Leauge would be Byers, Brunt when he played at Congupna. Wellington, Kennedy and Cowman to a extent,
There are a lot of players that the Shepp News pump up saying a massive signing for this team and how they'll dominate but when it comes to game day they are just the same they don't tear apart the leauge
For instance with the huge wraps that liddell and Harrop came with i don't think they delivered to what they were portrayed as. i think Harrop played well in the finals he kick 6 v Cong 5 v Echuca 6 v Mul and then 3 v Nath
during the year tho he kicked his big bags against the lower sides and got an average of 2 - 4 against the top six sides. Liddell kicked a bag of 7 against toc but other than that averaged about 1 - 3 a game.
I spose the point i'm trying to make is just because they have come from the G.V doesn't automatically make them a star or someone who will tear the MFL apart.

Mellington to sign with Barooga not Toc as people think
A couple of Barooga seniors players seen with Ex St Kilda Player Aussie Jones, could he be a potential player or is he friends with the players.
This is my favorite so far possibly no truth to it but maybe the tron burger can help. Mulwala look set to lose 30+ from their list this season, surely 30 odd people can't be leaving due to money. Maybe not the best decision by the Mul board.
As said at the top it is the silly season so this could just be all bull

I know i thought that when i looked on the website as well but when you look into it he kicked around 20 in the finals, so he finished the home and away season on around 75. it still is a large number but you look into it again and he kicked big bags against the teams that finished in the bottom 4 or 5, when he played against Nath Mul Ech Fin and Congu he kicked about 25 all up.
It's fine to dominate against the bottom sides, but i think the team will get sick of it if you can't do it against the better sides when it counts the most. so maybe i should have put he dominates against the bottom sides but doesn't have much impact in the tougher games.

I would love to know how many locals under the age of 25 they have in there team..... look at Mul it just shows that money can stuff up a club pretty quickly. Surely Byers has to be feeling guilty taking all there money.... Byers isn't a bad bloke outside footy ...BUT....and as for some of the players... specially the shep blokes it shows no loyalty what so ever..... i'll put the house on it that soon as the money drys up they will piss off!!!

With players like byers and the O'callaghan brothers pumping the footy inside 50 with great disposal kicking 70 goals would of been a par score. Did miss a few games with injury but was very good against us (united) in the final this year. Would of been on massive coin also.
How much money can barooga spend with all these players they are supposed to be getting? There budget must be $300,000.
In todays shepp news it states that Finley are struggling to get a coach. perhaps Sexton will take on the job again. No news from rumba either, i thought Gilbert Mcadam would be the perfect coach.

Yeah we're all waiting to see who got the job. I doubt it'll be Gilbert (i think he just wants to play) but i was told they'll announce there decision this Friday.

yeah we've started our "boot camp" training. it's open to footballers and netballers, more conditiond training then anything i reckon, but still good value. But our serious pre season hasn't started yet.
when are you'se planning to start hank?

Rams start tonite and then 3 times a week :thumbsu:

We started last Friday night, and Mon, wed, & Fri till xmas. 33 and 35 on the track so far, which are good numbers for us.
Bystanding backman its easy to say that Harrop was pretty much not worthy against the good sides because he didnt kick big bags in the home and away season and his teammates would be sick of it that he doesnt stand up when it counts but to me FINALS is when it counts and you said he kicked 20 goals in 4 finals appearances thats 5 goals a game. Correct me if im wrong but thats standing up when it counts in my books?????????
I know i thought that when i looked on the website as well but when you look into it he kicked around 20 in the finals, so he finished the home and away season on around 75. it still is a large number but you look into it again and he kicked big bags against the teams that finished in the bottom 4 or 5, when he played against Nath Mul Ech Fin and Congu he kicked about 25 all up.
It's fine to dominate against the bottom sides, but i think the team will get sick of it if you can't do it against the better sides when it counts the most. so maybe i should have put he dominates against the bottom sides but doesn't have much impact in the tougher games.

Guy Campbell has definitely signed with Echuca for 2008 and Luke Jones is moving to Perth to live. Anthony Baker is undecided between an offer with Lockington as assistant coach and offers to play at a couple of other local clubs. I tip that he won't accept an assistant coaches role at Locky. :thumbsu:

If that is true about Saad and Scanlon, the situation at Barooga is getting beyond a joke. Do they honestly not give a damn about the long term health of the club? Dishing out all of this money to lure top-rate players to their club for a couple of years of service is ridiculous. I hope one day the Barooga Sports Club pull the pin on them so I can watch the football club crash and burn, and they'll have no-one to blame but themselves.

Spot on Hank. People would be very surprised how little $ the Sporties actually hands out to the Hawks. You'd be pretty warm though with the Tubby Brooks call. Hey, good luck to them. They've got a very wealthy bloke who played for them as did his kids as do his grandkids now and he wants to see his club win one. Show me a club in the MFL who wouldn't want a Tubby Brooks helping them out.
2Gs a game to Saad and the other bloke - that's bu@#sh%t! That is the sort of rubbish Barooga haters have been pulling out of their ars#s for years. Barooga will need to spend a whole lot more to match Mulwala of the last few years, and who knows how much Nathalia have spent for their success.

Nathalia wouldn't be in the ball park in dollar terms compared to Mul, Bar and the Eagles in the last couple of years.
Certainly don't have any problem with these clubs going on spending sprees (better than wallowing on the bottom of the ladder) but the facts are in the last 9 years in the Murray League the premiers have put together sides made up off local content - Nathalia 3 years, Deni 4 years, Numurkah 2 years. Who is the last side to buy a flag in the Murray League?? Been a while.

Good points there Hirdy! Most sides that spend heaps fall marginally short if they attempt to buy a flag-oftenn falter in a Prelim or a Granny! The last MFL side to perhaps by one could be Jerilderie in about 86-could be wrong:thumbsu:

Won't argue with you on Collins' fee cause I don't know. With his pedigree there would be plenty of clubs around the bush willing to pay up.
I disagree with you on the pinching claim though. That's what they call "recruiting". Any club keen on doing well recruits, unless they have a glut of local talent. Players themselves don't get pinched - they move to other clubs of their own choice. If that's for cash, petrol money, cattle or guaranteed pussy each Saturday night from the netballers, they still go along with it. Players also change clubs for a crack at a flag, for the facilities, because they've got mates or family at the club, their new missus plays netball there, because they weren't getting a go at their junior club (or getting $ like the recruits) and have probably thoughts "bugger it, I wouldn't mind some of the lerks of a recruit". Pinching doesn't come into it.

Can confirm Jarrod Kelly will be staying at Toc. Marg and Clancey have signed at Wadonga. They have kept all there locals which is a good sign and have signed a few from Shepp Bears, with Campe coming back from Melbourne with 2 mates that have played a hand full of VFL games.

Hopkins hops on Blues bus By Richard Goodbody
Numurkah has secured its second key signing in as many months after snaring the services of Mooroopna utility Geoff Hopkins.
Hot on the heels of Tyson Saunders' signature, the Blues have agreed to terms with Hopkins, who joined the Cats from Silvan this year.
The versatile defender, who also showed his capabilities as a forward last season when he moved up front against Shepparton to boot three match-winning goals, will add some genuine bite to the Blues' structure.
With Bryce Wellington expected to return to full fitness following a string of injuries, the Blues' forward line could well boast the services of Wellington, as well as Hopkins, skipper Liam Gledhill and former Sydney draftee Mark Brown.
"Geoff's a good signing for us," Numurkah coach Linc Wellington said yesterday.
"With Tyson on board and Geoff also agreeing to play with us, we've been lucky enough to lock away a couple of quality players and we're still talking to a few more.
"Quite a number of players have agreed to do pre-season with us, so hopefully these early signings encourage a few more to come on board.
"I think we're heading in the right direction and having Geoff and Tyson on board is only going to help us."
During his first year in charge last season, Wellington led the Blues to seven victories, but they were unable to feature in September.
The Blues kick off their pre-season campaign with a training run on Monday, December 3 from 6 pm.

My point was more that they pinch players that surrounding clubs have worked on (recruiting) for months. Barooga find out and offer money they "can't refuse". Heartbreaking for clubs that work hard to raise money for the running of their clubs only to have Barooga's bottomless pit come along.

Well that says more about the individual player than the club doesn't it? I would have thought though that if a player isn't signed with a club for next year he's available and open to be spoken to. Are you talking about Barooga sniffing around some potential Tocumwal recruits? I can remember Toc poaching a recent League Medallist (and Barooga local boy through and through) from the hawks only a few years back. I think the odd local club has picked up some handy Barooga players over the years. I go back to my earlier comments along the lines that players will go to clubs only if they want to - noone's holding a gun to their head.

think both dtm and doobie have valid points, the problem with the hawks is they tend to hear on the grapevine potential recruits at other clubs and throw cash at them just to win the race. Every club has a different take on recruiting, Barooga tend to due it a bit different.
In regards to the Barooga boy through and through - the big fella has always played the game, tends to talk to a handful of clubs each year, don't think the Bloods "poached him" he was unhappy with his home club at the time. He isnt frighten to let the hawks know he is in discussion with other clubs in the area. Pretty clever really, gives him some bargaining power especially when the Hawks are more than happy to spend money on non locals.

Most likely true, and why wouldn't he go. With all Barooga's recruits from last season and this year, they could quite possibly be the only team to take the field without any player living in the town.
Recruits from last year - Byers, Harrap, Mason, Brophy, Bunge (Shepp) Liddell, Collins, Rattray (Seymour) along with Serong, Bigg, Galloway.
Throw in this seasons named recruits Gallagher, Robbins, Chapman. Then you have there rumoured recruits Balraj Singh, Saad Saad, Paul Scanlon, Anthony Mellington, Nick Allan, Jason Wild, and Dallas Gallagher's 2 brothers. Thats 11 from last season and 11 this season.
At the rumoured $2,000 a game some players are being offered, the locals would be mad not to look around.

I agree that they have been very aggressive in their recruiting, but you might have tried to make it sound a bit worse than what it really is.
Pony Liddell will almost certainly return to Seymour, and Patrick Meat-Tray has already moved up to Cairns. Chewy Scanlon and Super Saad will be playing at Seymour again in 2008. Would be surprised if Collins stayed on board for next year.
Mellington has signed with Tocumwal in the last 48 hours and Nick Allan has already been told he is not required as they already have some good onballers.
You might want to rule out a few names from your list so it looks a bit more realistic. :thumbsu:

Nick is a great bloke and a very good player. Problem is Barooga have ample onballers and not really looking to pay for another one. If he was going there for petrol money they would take him, but not prepared to pay him a whole lot to make it worth his while.

What a ridiculous post navy blue. Pull your head out of your ar#e and at least attempt to be factual with some names and $ figures. :thumbsd:
