Big Balraj Singe (I think thats how you spell it) was in todays Shepp News, claiming he wants to relocate back to the area, and play in either the GVFL or Murray football league. And my question is would you have him at your club?
(maybe state your conditions)

A massive NO way from my end! It has been stated on here that a few players that have left Mul this year are mecenaries. This bloke would have to be the biggest one getting around.
Dont know the bloke personally, but from all reports most people that play with him dont think that highly of the bloke, he rocks up plays his own game gets payed shitloads and pisses off home....
however there seems to be alot of that in country footy at the moment, so he isnt the only one.

we have all heard of the bigger clubs, what about the smaller clubs i.e congupna, tongala, finley. how are they shaping up this season. has congupna kept many from the 3rds premiership team??

No chance Goodgolly, someone around the club rang me after reading that in the paper and I said there was no way I'd be chasing him up. For that story to be written in the News you would think he would have had to ring the paper up himself to get that story going.

Singh seeking new home Tom Biddington Shepp News Today
Balraj Singh, the Goulburn Valley Football League's leading goal-kicker in 2006, is eyeing off a return to the region _ he just needs to find a club that wants him.
The 25-year-old kicked 110 goals for Balranald last season, but said the four-hour drive from Melbourne was too much and was keen to ply his trade in the Goulburn-Murray.
``I really enjoyed my time playing for Mooroopna and in the GVFL, which is probably the best country league around,'' Singh said.
``So I'd love to return to the area and play footy for a club in the GVFL or Murray Football League.''
Players capable of kicking 100 goals in a season are rare, with only Benalla's Ricky Symes and Seymour's Saad Saad being able to accomplish the feat in the GVFL in the past four years.
Singh was part of Balranald's team that lost the Central Murray Football League Grand Final to Tooleybuc-Manangatang.
``I went up there with four mates last year, but it's double the distance than Shepparton, and both the GVFL and Murray Football Leagues are a better standard,'' he said.
``It was in the last week I decided I didn't want to go back there this year, so I just want to see if there are any clubs around the region who would be interested in having me.
``Key forwards are difficult to find at times and hopefully there's a club that needs one.
``I work on the wharfs down in Melbourne, so I've been training by myself in the past few weeks, just keeping fit.''
Singh was the first Indian ever to be drafted by an AFL club when he was selected by Adelaide with pick 79 in the 1999 draft.
He played his junior footy with SANFL club West Adelaide.
What about that comment I've highlighted, what a joke

Almost a please will anyone take me. I mean if the bloke could bag you a ton and win you a premiership good luck, but at what cost to club morale???? He'd probably only play four or five games in the comp and then proclaim that he was too good ala when he signed with the Griffith Swans in 06! It would be a risky proposition but again could bag you a flag if he were to see out the season? Will be interested to see how this one progresses.

Not sure about winning you a premiership, i think thats what balranald thought until he didn't take to the field in the second half of the grand final because they hadn't paid him to play finals. I think Nathalia would be a big no (well i hope anyway). His article in the shepp news screams desperation.
Talked to a few people in the shepp area and they reckon he turns up plays his game has a shower then goes back to melb. surely for the amount of money he gets he could spend a little at the bar.
i've seen him play and if he plays on a smaller opponent in size and height he has a field day but if matched properly he struggles big time.
I reckon the only one in this leauge that would go for him might be Mul, with james leaving they may need a big forward or could Leigh Miller fill the void

I have been chatting to Parker and he is saying that Mul isnt chasing players this year, with the players they have lost they know they wont be able to match it with the Barooga's and Nathalia's so they are apparently saving there money for next year.

talking of key forwards
think you will find Sean Downie (ex Yarroweyah, Barooga, Toc) is heading to Cobram
Will certainly add some quality to the Tigers forward line.

I was having a beer with him in December and he said to me he was not going to have a kick this year, he was going to have a crack at getting his handicap down instead. Talented golfer.

Definatly signed with the tigers , he will be a very handy pick up. It will be good to see him back were he started his junior footy. Cobram are starting to get a pretty handy side together by all reports.

Heard the same. Natural talent. Pity he doesn't work his arse off because he could be anything. Great to see his younger brother showing what can be achieved if you're willing to work hard. There is only one place where success comes before work and that's in the dictionary!

I was told there were 8 at training so the low number rumours might be spot on. I was at a function yesterday represented by a number of local footy clubs. Despite Mul's current state some of their officials / committeemen were being out and out smartarses to people from other footy clubs. No wonder they are f#cked. Granted there are some top people at Mul, but it is difficult to feel too sorry for them when some of their "leaders" insist on being such smug c#nts. No wonder so many in Yarra/Mul and the nieighbouring districts are dancing on the lions' grave at the moment!:thumbsd:

Someone there has pissed you off DR. I must say though that I have heard some of their supporters sh#tcanning the players that have left them. Not a particularly smart move that. Some good blokes there but they do need to reign in some people who wear mul club shirts around town - they are mouthing off at a time they need to be very quiet. Take a leaf out of Yarra's book - had a poor 2007 when expected to win the comp. They are being very quiet and not pIssing people off atm. Seems to be a few old blokes who probably never even played for the lions treading on toes and putting sh&t on anyone who left them. or anyone connected with the other local clubs of yarra, rennie and tunga. They need to pull up a bit more than doobie r me thinks.

Recreational, performance enhancing or both?
Most blokes doing a lot of recreational stuff just don't play much footy. Whatever sh!t they're on seems to reduce their motivation to have a kick. I have played with some guys who were taking some sort of pills just before the game. By half time they were seeing double and they played sh!t games so they didn't make a habit of it. Personally haven't seen many guys trying the roids or any other performance enhancing stuff. Noone seems to want shrunken nuts or zits. I have played in teams with a lot of druggies/d!ckheads in them though. Team morale never real good as was discipline. Not much in grog sales over the club bar either.
Never a real problem in comps/clubs I've played.

Eddy signed as assitant coach at lancaster due to shifting to the town and to minimise travelling time to work, i'd doubt money had anything to do with it.

Hey Homer1 can you fill us in on why Andy May wasn't allowed to train with Deni last year (see below highlighted). Thought that you'd be happy to have him train then you could spend the rest of the year trying to get him to come back this year.

May is geared up for a big year
Nathan Holahan
Deniliquin Rovers' star recruit Andrew May is looking forward to his first season in Picola District Football League.
The 24-year-old said he's glad he'll be playing under Roos coach Josh Bode.
``Bodey seems like a great coach. He really knows how to speak to his players,'' May said.
``I just hope I can produce a good year myself and hopefully get through injury-free.
``We've got a great side and if we make the finals we'll be capable of anything.''
Football finals aren't anything new to May.
The star on-baller played in the Deniliquin Rams' 2002-04 flags, as well as Balranald's premiership in 2006.
May missed the Rams' 2001 grand final after breaking his collarbone in a semi-final.
The Rams' best and fairest winner also played in Balranald's losing Central Murray Football League Grand Final to Tooleybuc-Manangatang last season.
May joins former Finley defender Marc Braybon at the Rovers.
``I wasn't allowed to train with the Rams so Bodey said I should go down there (Memorial Park). That's what first got me involved with the club,'' May said.
``I haven't spoken to him (Bode) about what my main role will be this season.
``I just know I'll be used on-ball to provide a bit more pace in the centre.''
The Roos bowed out of the Picola District Football League finals after going down to Shepparton East by seven points in the second elimination final last year. It was the first time the senior side had made the finals since 2003, before that it was 1996.

ha ha that is a true story, i was in the thirds at the time and did the pre season training with the seniors, everyone was a bit amused by it and couldnt understand why the vcfl would want to test country footballers for performance enhancing or recreational drugs.
The majority of the lockington boys at that time were dairy farmers or your typical country blokes who would have known "crack" as your arse showing and 'speed' as a movie starring sandra bullock.
maybe they thought the boys were juiced up on colostrum from the abundance of milk.

This person who USED to play over at Nathalia, does he have a name? Pretty easy to say things if they don't supply a name but it takes guts if they supply names and their own name so that they can stand up to scrutiny. So what i am saying, unless people are strong enough to name names, keep it to themselves. How come this person use to play there and still not there? Not good enough,so he has to bag a successful club.

It is always good to hear from a true authority on a subject. Thanks for your input on the drugs in sport issue, DTS Acky. Or are we calling you Schapelle now? Heard you became quite good friends with a policeman's beagle on the long weekend....
How unfair of you sippy ! If going to see Rage against the machine with a rollie pack with a little wacky tobaccy in toe is a crime , well i guess I deserved all the attention from that nosy little k9:D . While where on the subject though did you and the little missus catch any of the arcade fire ?

Trying to nut it out dropthesirenAcky! Rumors going around that a few of the boys are using recreational stuff. A couple of more serious allegations that the club is working at finding out more info on. We're going to try and hit it on the head front on rather than sweeping it under the carpet. The principles Byso is trying to instill in the boys goes totally against this way of life so we'll probably give players involved, not matter who they are, two options: To seek some help to get off the gear, with the club's assistance or to piss off to another club where that type of behaviour is considered acceptable, which according to reports are becoming a majority! Regarding the more serious allegations, if there found to be true, those players are gone!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!:mad::mad: Don't need that crap floating around if you going to build a successful club and quality people!
I like your pro active approach hawk . It is a fair chance that 3 or more of your lads are on it . having played at a few clubs now and going on the averages . How to spot one ? well the pupils are the first stop . anyone with eyes like dinner plates and mostly pupil showing is a chance . Also they will often foam up in the corners of the mouth . And if they glass their girlfiend before snap kicking a miami cop to the head they are most likely on drugs ! good luck with the hunt hawk .

With clearences now open it will be interesting to really see how sides are shapping up for 2008. Mul will be interesting to see as there have been a lot of talk of up to 25-30 players on the depart, Finley sounds like there hard work last year will come undone with a few heading to deni rovers... Echuca will be interesting to see how hewy recruits, moama on the improve, Rumba could be big movers as new coach MUD takes no shit, Congupna will be interesting... not much has been said, but did hear that they could loose up to 18 senior/ reserves players which leads to the question of what are they up to? Numurkah have a few good signing early, nathalia strong again, Barooga will be interesting as well, they seem to have ditched a few gold diggers and focused on what they need instead of just getting anyone, Toc have been quite signed Mellington and Chapman from Shepp but anyone else?? Cobram looking better!!
Anyone else got some news!

Nah, mate the Rochy side played off against the side that beat you blokes but they were found wanting when the pressure was put on. Pearcey's side won comfortably. Yeah good day had by all.

Shaun Pearce i think is his name. i think it getting to close to the start of the year so no one wants to make any big claims because they will be easily remembered. once practice matches start there will be a bit more action.

Yes Shaun Pearce, we are coming along OK for the Good Friday clash, may have to fly Perc Roberts back from Darwin though depending on if they make the GF up there as its the weekend before so not too sure how good a nick he will be in, other than that getting good numbers on the track and starting to get into some more competitive work and game type scenario exercises. Got our Boot Camp in Ballarat next weekend which I am looking forward too, a few of the players are a bit worried though!!

wouldn't that go against the Tonny/harrison plan of players doing so for the love of it ? Or do players travel the continent on their own free will ? And the fact you have Darren Webster coaching the two's is a joke he is a Brenden Parker loving freak, who cares if has lost 10kgs or so he's just gonna put a young kid out of the side if he says what he says and gonna play what a joke, just get the footy signed by the Richmond footy club, off the Moama Bowling Club roof yourself and don't get other people involved (Steve Haw).
Can Confirm Anthony Mellington signed with Toc last night. He has only missed a couple of training runs this year and came 6th in the 2.2 km time trial so he is moving well!

Webby has been excellent for the club since he has come on board, and if he keeps training then I see no reason why you wouldnt want someone like him running around in the twos leading the younger players. Average age of the twos side this year will be early 20s so some harder bodies and older heads will be very helpful. In saying that pretty sure he will be coaching from the sidelines for the first part of the year.
On the "Tonny/harrison plan of players doing so for the love of it", I or the football club have never stated that as our plan, part of our plan has been to get back as many locals living in the town who have been playing elsewhere, which we have done over the past 2years (Ohlsen X2, Brennan, Brunt, Cox, Johnstone, Harris X2, Martin X2, Waasdorp), thats 11 off the top of my head. With the story of a couple of players coming back from Darwin, nothing has transpired as yet and obviously toquick has got his mail from Perc who has told me there may be a couple of blokes who are keen on coming back down with him to play once they are finished up there, and we certainly aren't in the business of knocking back players so if all works out and Perc does the right thing and keeps in their ear hopefully we will land a couple of blokes from up there!
P.S. Big night last night Governor, just opened up the new account and 3 posts after midnight.

Mel becomes a Toc bloke
Former AFL forward Anthony Mellington will join Tocumwal next season in a major coup for the Murray Football League outfit.
The 33-year-old, who played 44 games with North Melbourne and Fitzroy, will take on an assistant's roll under Lee Warnett.
A dual best and fairest winner and three-time premiership player with Shepparton in the Goulburn Valley league, Mellington said it was a tough decision to leave Deakin Reserve.
``I've played I think nine seasons there now over a long period of time and probably achieved everything I ever set out to,'' Mellington said.
``The time had come for a change and while I think I've still got a year or two of footy left in me, the Murray league is a league which is pretty close to the GV in terms of standard.
``There's 12 or 13 clubs I don't know a lot about and it's a chance to meet new people and experience some new footy.
``I'm pretty busy now with family life, but to just play at a weekend and not have to worry about all those other things you do as a coach will be a bonus.''
Mellington joins former Bears teammates Tom Cullinan, Luke Chapman and Ben Shiels as recruits at Bloods, who look to again challenge for a place in the top six after missing out last year.
Warnett said the addition of Mellington, who kicked 100 goals in Shepparton's 2000 premiership, would be a massive bonus.
``For me as a first-year coach it's great to pick up a guy of his experience,'' Warnett said.
``Just in terms of bouncing ideas off him and picking up a bit of advice.
``And he's still a great player too, who's pretty fit at the moment and we've picked up a handful of other players and Sean Logie is coming back, so we're shaping up fairly well.'' Tocumwal will meet Barooga in the opening round on April 5.

Frantic, tough and full of thrills
Tom Biddington
Craig Frost got the opportunity of a lifetime yesterday, pulling on a jumper in Richmond's intra-club practice match at Moama.
With the Tigers needing a few extras to help fill the numbers, they invited 10 players from Echuca, Moama and Echuca United to take part in the game.
``The guy who organises the community camp, he went around and asked the clubs if there were some players who could join in and I was lucky enough to get a spot,'' Frost said.
``It was good to run around with a few of the top players in the AFL.''
The Echuca United midfielder said there was a big difference in terms of pace and skills to what he is used to.
``It was pretty quick, they just shoot from end to end like that, so it was hard at times, but it was good fun,'' Frost said.
``Fitness-wise I felt okay out there, but I'm a bit smaller so it was a bit harder to get the footy against the big bodies.
``It's a lot quicker and a lot more direct.''
The ring-ins enjoyed a good spell on the ground, with Frost playing part of the third and all of the last term in the midfield on Chris Hyde.
In the second quarter, the 20-year-old took a mark just outside 50m, but he went back, took his time before hitting a target 15m from goal, earning the praise of Tigers vice-captain Chris Newman.
``It was good, they told us to take our time and I did that and make sure you find a target, and luckily it got there,'' he said. ``This is definitely my best experience in footy, I won't forget it.''
It also says in todays shepp news that Duane Hueston, Damien Dalziel, Nick Iorianni, John Faskett and Luke Dunham also played in the match as well.

All the local boys got a few touches with big Lukey Dunham from Moama impressive in getting a fair bit of footy.(Could be a big year for Dunham with the Mowers having a few recruits around him)
Young Frosty from United and Chris Casey from Echuca played pretty well too. And what about big Dangas Dalziel... 3 consecutive hit-outs from centre bounces (not to mention, he roved two of them himself, and hit Jackson on the t!t with the third) saw Simmonds removed from the ruck and benched in the third term. They put Danga's on Richo in the last quarter. No stats for Richo, Richo benched. Dalziel on fire... Although to be fair, the ball hadn't been down there, Danga's is a big clumsy ruckman and it was probably best for Richo and Tigers fans that Danga's didnt trip Richo up and wreck his knee....

yer we may have to throw a game there, I for one don't want to play for two days in row again. Remembering the whole Tiwi Bombers one day, Deni Rams the next thing, wasn't a good idea. Would like us to be fresh for Congupna on the 29th March 2008. So either Toc and Cobram might get to play half our thirds side just to make sure we don't make the grand final on the 28th March.

that is a top six. positions are very loose guesses... i definately think moama will make the finals though. they are basically a new club, heaps of things have changed both on and off the field, all the new recruits and past players are mixing great...very good atmosphere down at the club. i guess after a couple of praccy matches we will have a more accurate idea of where we are at....
Sorry but can't see Moama in top 6 at this stage-a 7-10 side at the moment and perhaps will win 8 games

Kards, we'll just have to see how everyone's travelling come a couple of rounds in, especially if you've got travellers in the side. Have picked up some good players so will be interested to see how they gel when put into a pressure cooker game environment. Don't know if they'll jump as high as 2nd?

I can see moama improving heaps, but don't think they'll be top four come end of year.
I think for top four your looking at Nathailia, Barooga, Numurkah and then either Deni, Rumba and Toc for fouth, followed by Tongala and then Moama for sixth. Having said that, who ever out of Deni, Rumba And Toc make fourth spot, the other two wont play finals.
I guess time will tell...i'm confident moama will be a strong team this year though and if they do not perform well i will be very dissapointed. They have put together the best list they have had in the last 4 years, so if they dont make an impact in the league this year, i dont know when they will.... i agree with you big hawk...we will have to see a couple of rounds in, the team has really jelled on a personal level so hopefully we can be strong as a group on field...

Late start for new coach
Ashleigh Williamson
Mulwala's string of big off-season departures has been compounded, with new coach Nathan Parker to miss the start of the season following a recent back operation.
His injury follows the exits of former coach Chris Kennedy (retired), ex-North Melbourne midfielder Michael Stevens (Benalla), ruckman Jake Cowman (Mooroopna), O'Dwyer medallist Jason Sanderson (Billabong Crows) and Ben James (Yarrawonga) from last year's side.
It is also unlikely the Lions' leading goalkicker last season Lee James will return.
Persistent pain in Parker's back left him no option but to go under the knife if he wanted to play his best footy this season.
The reliable defender said he would probably miss the first five or six games.
``I could rush it and probably make it for the first game but it's not worth it if it plays up again later in the season and I miss more footy,'' Parker said.
``Being on the sidelines for the first few games will give me a chance to have a look at the younger guys and see what we've got to work with.''
However, star midfielder Rob Lamberti appears to have had a change of heart after hanging up his boots at the end of last season.
Parker said the dual O'Dwyer medallist could front up for the Lions for a 10th season.
``He might come back. For him to travel from Melbourne each week and play for us for 10 years has been sensational. He's an absolute gun,'' Parker said.
``His experience would be good in just helping out the younger guys and their development as senior footballers because he's played at this level for so long.''
Experienced players are something Mulwala will lack this season. But Parker said it would give the club an opportunity to blood plenty of younger players as it prepared for a rebuilding phase after being beaten in the last four preliminary finals.
``We've had a lot more goings than comings, but we'll be a young side, which is going to be exciting,'' he said. ``It's all about developing the younger kids and putting a few experienced players around them and hopefully we can be competitive.''

Double-header bodes well for an extra-good Friday
Tom Biddington
A double-header on Good Friday headlines the Barooga Night Series that gets under way on March 10.
A full complement of 20 teams will take part in the annual pre-season competition and co-ordinator Anton Nobel said it was shaping up well.
``We've filled all our spots and have 10 division one teams and 10 division two teams,'' Nobel said.
``It's not-for-profit event so we get local groups from the community involved in the organisation and running of the games and pay for their services, and then any profit we make on top of that gets divided up between the groups.
``It's one of the reasons it's been so successful, there's good community support and for the clubs involved, all they have to do is turn up to play a game of footy.''
There's a double-header on every weeknight, with division two matches starting at 6.30pm before the division one matches get under way at 8.30pm.
The final of the group matches is on Good Friday, with Strathmerton and Yarroweyah playing the curtain-raiser, before Barooga takes on Leeton.
All of the games are under lights on the main oval, which has arguably the best surface in the region.
``It's looking really nice at the moment,'' Nobel said.
``We've been a bit worried about the water, like everyone has in the past few months, but the patches we've had recently have really helped out.'' Barooga is the favourite to take Mulwala's title as the division one champion, while Waaia will have some still competition from Katandra and Shepparton East as it tries to defend its division two premiership.

It is hard to believe you are comparing dalziel to richardson, do you have any football knowledge at all.

Read my post, idiot - where did I compare Dalziel with Richo?
Just stating what happenned. Danga's played well against 2 experienced big blokes, I guess which is why Kevin Bartlett interviewed him on SEN as did Karl Langdon on 6PR...

Well lads
for most of us only 47 days till the season starts but lucky/unlucky for Tongala and Moama only 38 days till season 08 begins.
How does eveyone reckon there clubs are travelling? are you going to be fit enough. will you have enough practice matches before the start.
Nathalia seem to be travelling along nicely 20 - 30 blokes most nights, fitness of most blokes seem to be very good will find out were we truely are come our practice matches. we are having one intraclub match and two proper practice matches.

Pretty sure you can knock another 6 days off the Tonny/Moama scenario there bystander, my calculations say it would be 32 days.
We are getting our 30 on the track most nights which is an improvement on last year, had 25 do our boot camp in Ballarat over the weekend, probably the hardest physical and mental two days I have ever had, will hold all the boys that went in good sted for the coming season.
Got two praccy matches lined up and then Good Friday, so we should be ready to go by then.

haven't really lost anyone yet other than Mark Sims who has gone back home. all the rest seem to be keen to go again. everyone has been training really well.
have picked up Al Corry from Picola who will play on permits and if he is enjoying it then will stay on. Jarrod Maskell from Congupna adds another big man to our team is going along nicely at training. have got a couple of others still in the pipelines hopefully we can get them will go nicely to the team.

And I'm just curious about the use of the word "yet"! Are there some other players maybe moving on. I hope so as it gives all the other teams in the comp a bit of a chance now!!!;)

He's back at Wodonga got offered a very nice package from all reports, he play half the year in the 1's and half in the 2's and due to a couple of injury clouds going into the granny he got a spot on the bench as a back up midfielder/backman.
bit dirty on him leaving he's a top bloke on and off the field.
