The big rumour i have heard is Barooga are chasing one GVFL coach and made him a offer he carnt knock back ?
So, that would be where big Stevie D is headed then! He is supposedly moving to Shepp, but had been linked with Nathalia and Wang. Suppose the Sporties could allow for an exorbitant sum!
Mallee Stump - Col Durie plays for Echuca last I heard - the GVFL version. Try there mate!
Cheers
Thanks mate, hope the elbows are holding up for the big man.....
Yeah he hasn't had any trouble with them this season, hence his good form.

23 Aug 2006, 01:52
I hear Hickmott might be just about across the line to coach a VFL side next year.
See the Sheldon rumours are true as seen in todays Shepp News.
Has signed on as Rumbalara's Business Manager.
Here is the story from Todays News by Richard Goodbody
Former St Kilda and Echuca coach Ken Sheldon has confirmed he is the latest addition to Rumbalara Football Club.
In a stunning coup, the triple Carlton premiership player will begin his role as the club's business manager tomorrow night after recently accepting the position.
"It's exciting," Sheldon said yesterday.
"I'm looking forward to it.
"(My appointment) is about enhancing Rumbalara's relationship to the wider community."Not so much on a playing perspective, but in regards to the business side of things.
"I've got a lot of contacts which could be very helpful to Rumbalara."
During a decorated playing career, Sheldon led the Blues to the 1979, '81 and '82 premierships before shifting to St Kilda in 1987.
After retiring at the end of 1989, Sheldon took the coaching reins at St Kilda (1990-93) before doing likewise at South Adelaide (1994-96) and Echuca (2000-01) in later years.
The 185-game AFL legend, however, is looking forward to starting a new era of his football life.
"It's a great appointment," Rumbalara president Paul Briggs said.
"Ken will act as our business manager taking care of corporate management, sponsorship opportunities and player management.
"He's got some great skills, not just in football, but in business as well."

Mulwala are travelling about as well as they can on the injury front, they just have Michael Stevens and Benjamin out for the year.
Apparently Stevens hasn't given up hope of playing again this season from his broken leg, 6 week injury and he's had 5 on the sidelines.
Josh Maher returned on the weekend as well.

Do you mean this season, or in 2007? He had every chance to qualify for finals this season with United due to bye's in the VFL and when he didn't get a game with Bendigo, but they refused to sign match permit papers for him to qualify. Makes no sense to me, considering they wont make finals.

Tips for Round 20:
Tongala v Deniliquin
Congupna v Cobram
Tocumwal v Moama
Rumbalara v Mulwala
Numurkah v Nathalia
Echuca United v Finley

Where has the season gone? It has flown past so very quickly, feels like it was only yesterday that we were discussing the recruits and the final 6 for the end of the year. All the under acheieving teams will want to finish off the year with wins and should push their opponents right through til the end. Tongala, Cobram, Rumbalara, Numurkah and Finley should all have a real crack in their matches. Goodluck to everyone for the weekend!

In no particular order, I believe the final 6 teams this season will be:

Well its official. Nathalia have suffered their first defeat of the season in the final round of the season. The game was played today, scores: Numurkah 13.4 (82) v Nathalia 10.12 (72)

I don't think Nathalia rested any. They had nearly all of their side in.
The rivalry between the two clubs is too strong for either of them to be given a break.

Wouldnt any player heading into finals be planning a big campaign? I don't think many players would go in with the mindset that they will just cruise through and go with the flow.

Yes Wokky, believe this could be the finals series that Kyle bursts out of the shadows behind his cousins Nathan and Ash, and shows that he to is a topline player.

Anthony Baker would be up there, Dale Reyne has been good, their better players have been in and out through injury, Hueston (as good as you'll get in the comp), Guy Campbell and S McCarty. Willo would be able to give you a better idea.

Sorry you must not have understood me first time Andy, NATHALIA WON BY 100+PTS BUT WERE STRIPPED OF THE 4PTS FOR PLAYING AN UNREGISTERED PLAYER(PAPERWORK STUFF UP WITH VFL) THE SCORE ON THE WEBSITE IS RUMBALARAS ACTUAL SCORE AND AS THEY HAVE BEEN PUT DOWN AS WINNING THE GAME, THE LEAGUE HAS GIVEN NATHALIA A SCORE ONE POINT LESS THAN THEM. Slipping Willo 0 for 2, think I've pegged back two there, two convincing wins over the weekend to Nathalia and Mulwala. Huge game next week between United and Mulwala. Still cant see anyone getting near the purps.
Yeah mate. It was disapointing on Saturday. Nathalia are just pure class, it would take for everything to go according to plan for a team to defeat them. I still dont know how Numurkah did it, they just have the answer for everything, players everywhere, running and receiving.

From watching on the weekend end not many of the nathalia boys played blinders they all did what they had to and produced an outstanding win. United didn't seem like they were at their best if they put up an effort like that next weekend i think they will be out in straight sets.

At a guess I would say about 80%. Winning form is good form. Mulwala belted Barooga last week while Echuca was belted by Nathalia. It will take a fair bit for EU to come back from that. I saw the Mul Vs EU game earlier in the year with Mul getting up there. May have the wood over them and peaking at the right time of the year.
Chris Kennedy is a very good coach and could pull off a minor miracle by bringing home the flag if a few things go their way.
I don't have any idea on the injury front but the whisper is Stevens may pull on the boots again this weekend.

I love the passion you show for your club - EU. I will be @ the MFL grandfinal having a look so you better perform! Unfortunatley I don't think I'll be watching EU playing in the 2.30pm game. Nathalia V Mulwala 4 me but I could be wrong. Time will tell.
Gooroo
Looks like my passion and belief were in the right spots today: Echuca United 15.11 (101) def. Mulwala 9.12 (66)
Agree. United out in straight sets
See above.;)
After questiong a Toc Committee member he said that Garys name has been mentioned and that Gary told them that he can bring two players with him, weather they are his two boys is yet to be seen. Sean would be handy in any forward line and Tyrone is not bad either.
So much for the Yarra bloke they told me they were confident in getting!
Magic
Gary Downie will be at the healm of Tocumwal in 2007. Tyrone will stay with Barooga and Shawn will remain with Yarroweyah.

Well done to everyone involved in the Echuca United Football Club. Things haven't been the rosiest at the club over the years, but they have really taken some big steps forward this season.
I would love to see them win a flag and get the monkey off the back and start developing a bit of a winning culture and history to the club.
GO EAGLES!!!!!

Well done to the EU boys. I was wrong along with a couple of other punters. I did manage to sneak down the HWY for a look and all I can say is - Nathalia by the length of the straight.
I thought Mul was the only team capable of challenging the Purples but with so many players having a bad day at the wrong end of the year they dont deserve the chance. If it wasn't for Guy Campbell (who had a blinder) and Mul's inacuracy the result could have been alot different. The 6 goal margin didn't indicate the closeness of the game. 75% of Mul gave up in the last 10 mins.
While EU have "Weeties" - a good 2nds player & 2 x Rowbottoms - fruit loops in the team, Nathalia wil be grinning. Campbell won't be able to play everywhere.
All the best to the EU 3rds.
Cheers Gooroo

I can't say i believe that Campbell was the only contributing factor in the win yesterday. There is no doubt that he stood up and played a great captain's game, but it really was a great team game. As Guy rose to the occasion, so did the whole team, which saw the likes of Dale Reyne, Duane Hueston, Darren Turner, Nick Iorianni, Shaun Delamare, Pat Tarrant and Anthony Baker begin to dominate and carve up their opponents.
Mulwala are truely a great outfit, but a quality opposition shouldn't crumble in the latter part of the game when it is in the balance. With the inclusion of Simon McCarty up forward and Liam Guinan into the middle for the big one this weekend, the Eagles line up will be bolstered with plenty more experience and youth.
Whats with your 'fruit loops' comment on the Rowbottom boys? Campbell doesn't need to play everywhere because there are 20 other blokes in the team that can do the job just as well.

Marty Brooks!!!
He must have had a huge season.
Even though he was ineligible, well done to Anthony Baker on finishing second. He had a great season and has developed into a top line senior footballer.
Good to see the perennial vote getters Ash and Nathan Gemmill finishing out of the top two, time to give someone else a go I reckon.
And perhaps the biggest cheer should go to Damien Sexton, still going strong after so many seasons.
He is an absolute champion country footballer and one of the toughest blokes I have seen play.
Well done to the top six.

Well done to Brooks - and Sexton must be the oldest player in the comp which is a great effort. I'm sure he would be about 36 or so. Hopefully he goes around again. I'm sure Finley need him to guide its younger players:thumbsu:

Journeyman news from the purples,
Smith out - Pell in.
He's absolutly wrapped so's quinn in the chance of playing in a premiership together being cousins.
Grand Final tommorow: Nathalia v Echuca United.
Tips everyone..? I will stand by my boys and tip United to win under 20 points. Their line-up has been strengthend with the inclusions of dangerous veteran forward Simon McCarty and young gun Liam Guinan. In the 2nds, Mulwala will make it back to back premierships. In the 3rds, United will get up over Finley, and the 4ths, United over Deniliquin.

WEll journeyman yor boys the purples backed up last year and won pretty easily really. They never looked like losing after quarter time. The eagles needed to be at least 2 /3 goals up to be in with a chance after kicking with the wind. They had most of the play in the first 15 minutes but couldn't score. By half time the game was over. Nathalia were just a to even side all over the ground. Nath Gemmill was easily BOG. i thought drew barnes was great also along with lucas who was superb in the ruck. Their coach smith didn't play with 42 Pell coming into the side. OVerall nathalia just had to much pace all over the ground and especially in the forward line.
Echuca had campbell doing a great job on Parker but he still kicked 3 goals. I think they should of moved campbell after half time to CHF as they lacked a target across there and needed to kick goals. McCarty had 2 opportunitys that he should of converted in the 3rd quarter but missed. Hueston played ok but lacked support while dalziel wasn;t bad in the ruck against lucas. Darren turner kicked a couple of ripping goals also.
Will be interesting to see whether nathalia lose a heap of players or go for a 3rd flag. Echuca need to keep what there got get a key defender to release campbell and a full forward so hueston can play on ball all the time and 2 or 3 quick forwards and they would not be far off.

well a bad day for Echuca United on saturday with three footy teams all losing on the big day. don't know how the juniors went but their seniors were just blown away, nathalia's coaching staff seemed to be able to predict heritage's moves to easily. a few of the united boys kept trying all day but nathalia was just to determined to get the back to back.
fight on the hill was great, is it true that one poor bloke got slashed with a bottle?
does anyone reckon nathalia could go a triple premiership or will they struggle to retain players.

i think the bloke who got slashed was from united, apparently a group of blokes had been mouthing off to another group not sure if he was in one of groups or just a bystander being dragged into it. you know how it is people drink and the slightest thing can turn in to a blue.
hope the blokes ok anyway.

What a great day for the Purps. Was getting quarter by quarter updates as couldn't get there.
Nathan Gemmill is a champion. I read the Shepp News and he's playing it down but the fact is he played with only 80 per cent of his vision and got best on ground. Always plays well in finals.
Out of the 21 that played, 17 started in the Nathalia 4ths (under 14s). Two of the four that didn't (Garner and Trimby) have each played almost 150 games.
Rapt for the boys as the stuck at it despite being unable to topple Deni for those years. The gemmills, quarrells, barnes, butler, quinn, Trimby, Liddells, all play for bugger all money so they can stay together.

Righto, 16 started in the fourths which is still a fair effort. I hear Pelly went pretty well, how did Ash Quinn go? Rapt for him seeing he missed out last year.
Which side was better do you reckon BB, this year's or last years? I counted 7 different players from the two years. Having Lucas made us very strong.
The bordermail alluded to something about the fight on the hill. I hear it was massive. Was it between United 3rds and Finley 3rds?

I can tell you all right now, the fight that occured on the hill just before half time of the senior match did not involve any player from the Echuca United Football Club. The instigator, a tall guy with jeans, an Echuca United polo shirt and a dragon tatoo on his neck was at the centre of it all. He threatened one of the United 3rds players and bought his shirt off of him for $30, put it on then started a fight with a group of Finley boys, and was chanting 'Carn United! F**k all you other d*ckheads!'. There was also another young kid from Moama, who was arrested and taken away by the police after punching on with the Finley player who got BOG in the Grand Final.
Dont go slagging off the 'United faithful' when you don't know the full story. Just because there were a few of the thirds boys up on the hill caught up in the middle of it all, doesn't mean they started it.
Congratulations to Nathalia, Barooga, Finley and Deniliquin on their 2006 Premiership wins. It was a perfect day for football and a high quality display was played for all to see.
