My appologies Edward
They should pick both Symonds and Hodge. The order should be:
1. Hayden
2. Langer/Hussey
3. Ponting
4. Hodge
5. Symonds
6. Gilchrist
7. Warne
8. Lee
9. Kasperwicz (Bracken is terrible)
10. McGrath
11. McGill
Or play a bat like Martyn instead of Kasper and use Symonds for mediums and offies.
Haha love your work Edward, ive got a feeling another Conquered will be added after the Gabba if this is the case

You guys are dreaming if ya think the selectors will drop Clarke for Hodge. They've put a lot of faith into the young prodigy, and they'll need a pretty good bloody reason to abandon him. I can assure you, an average, aging, first class player, who could never really cut it in the Australian A side, is not a sufficient reason to delay this necessary trasitional process.

Since when is Hodge going to replace Clarke? He would replace Watson or Katich. People are dreaming if they think that Martyn will come back and replace Clarke

Here's a reason;
An average of under 39 and not a century in 12 months... That would see Ponting out of the team. Hell, Martyn got dropped with an average of 49.

That reason means jack sh*t to the selectors. Clarke is not a senior player. He's a future player. The same rules don't apply to Clarke as they would for Martyn and Ponting.

i just checked and it aint april 1st. thats 4, possibly 5 changes to the team who have just won by 379 runs - who are you kidding?
kasper aint coming back, he's finished as a test cricketer it would seem.
some guys on here have thrown up marto's name, but as good as he still may be (add boof lehmann as well to this) australia want to move forward and not go backwards. its a perfect time to do this as they are only playing the windies.
the questions that need to be asked for the 2nd test are:
if langer is fit does he come back (you would think so)
and if so does hussey retain his spot (perhaps down the order)
could symonds be thrown in to replace the injured watson?
does hodgey finally deserve a crack and replace watto or perhaps katich?
does macgill play and if so does he replace watto or bracken?
surely the 11 will come from this squad of 14 here: hayden, langer, ponting, clarke, katich, hussey, hodge, symonds, gilchrist, warne, lee, bracken, mcgrath, macgill.

no Martyn was rightfully dropped because he had an average of 19 in the Ashes. You don't judge a player by their career average.

3 changes to an Australian team? Will never happen (unless 3 New South Welshmen are brought in). And as for Bracken, he's better than Kaspa at the moment, even though he might be seen as a Gabba swing specialist, they've got no one to cover for him (except for Lewis & Tait).

But you could judge them on the last 12 months when they were named Test Cricketer of the Year
Having said that - whether the decision drop Martyn was correct or not, there ain't no coming back for him now. We don't often recall 34 year olds to the test team

He did, and i feel sorry for him - he'd still perform if he was there, cause hes class.
Fact is though he knew the pressure was on him and others toward the end of that series and 8 innings was enough for the selectors. But sadly putting him back wouldn't do much for the future of the aussie batting lineup.

Could not agree more! Except McGill for Clarke. We dont need 2 leggies with what Warnie did to them.

We could probably bring in 9 batsmen and just have Warne and McGrath bowling, with Clarke, Katich, and Ponting our relief bowlers, and still win ;)

Bit harsh, there. Bracken was terrific in the 2nd innings. Windies or not, he bowled well.

I thought the whole logic behind Watson's selection was that we need an all-rounder.
Does that argument now evaporate just because Watson is unavalaible?
BarraKouta
8 Nov 2005, 16:54
I think the problem is
Watson was seen as young so they could develop him, the rest of the options are older and no development chances there and their performances dont show enough

If we do, then Symonds must play the 2nd Test.
If we don't need one, then Watson's selection ahead of a more deserving 7th specialist batsman is bollocks.

Of course its bollocks
But isnt this a look to the future, so they want an allrounder in the future so they have to develop Watson now. But with Watson out, the next in line are not looking to the future, so they may as well go back to the best XI which is Hodge in for Watson
If they want to develop another all rounder for the future, then White should come in ;)

Hes a better batsman that Watson or Symonds, and gets the same amount of movement as either of them, takes more wickets, more economical, just look at his great numbers this year

Let's see if he can maintain it.
He's not really in the mix for a Test berth at this stage.
I'd be more inclined to think the selectors are after a all rounder who bowls medium pace than spin. White is doing his chances no harm but I don't think hes quite there yet. I wouldn't be surprised if he gets a start in the odi format though.

No but you look at how they have performed in the year before 1 series. He cooped 2 of the worst lbw decisions ive ever seen to. He was not rightfully dropped thats for sure.

If youre a batsman and average 19 in 8 knocks you deserve to be dropped, poor decision or not.
Martyn had been a great batsman, but in the ashes he was shocking.

Good batsman but can't turn the ball far enough to be a good leggie.
