As you may have gathers, my kids are huge footy fans and my 7 yr old is a crazed Lions supporter who loves the team and loves all the history with Fitzroy and the Bears. We are fortunate to live close to Brunswick St where we get to see the Reds wallop the opposition ( and sing the song ), and even play for the Fitzroy Juniors. Basically total Lionland.
Every Friday at school the 7 yr old wrote a quite detailed preview of the game and also has the nerves-of -steel to sit thru' a game on TV without going ballistic ( no names mentioned there ). His teacher , also an old Lion, has encouraged this - for English expression of course.
So he's had a BIG year with premierships all round. He then wrote a quite surreal game review based on old grounds, ex-players and impossible goal scoring feats. The teacher read it and had the idea to email it to the Lions. He got an enthusiastic reply from Kinnear (?) basically saying that he would come to the school and present the lad with some goodies .. and maybe some players may attend. We didn't tell him as .. well, I guess we felt that it would be a big ask to get players to Melbourne for one 7 yr old.
But .. bugger me. Who should rock up to the classroom but Kinnear ( I think ) and DAMIEN CUPIDO !!! The lad's jaw is still on the floor and ... you can imagine the excitement and pandemonium. Can this year get any bigger ?
A HUGE thank you to whoever got that one together. This is just sensational and we've popped Damien right up on the pedestal.
