Barooga Night Series starts March 10, but haven't seen a draw yet?

He might have settled down now that he's a father. He's not that bad, every club has one of these players from time to time - nothing to get knickers in a twist about especially now he's not in the league.

Anyway, does anyone know when the Barooga night series starts and has a draw for it been released?

Still a lot of talk about them folding. It doesn't look good, minimal numbers at training. A lot of their players though, won't train until the season has nearly started. PTF would know more, but its' not looking very flash.

Dunno about the thirds but saw on Murray league site that John Walker is apparently playing back at Picola this year. Anyone know if thats right. Huge get for the club and the league if correct.Good to see some young fellas around who remember where they came from even if it might only be for a year or two.

From what I have heard most of the regular , reliable senior players are right to go again ????

That is true, Walker is suiting up for his home club in 2008, will be a standout in the Picola league, last game he played was on the G GF day where he got Best on in a losing side.

Dale Alderton is Coaching Berrigan This year, very well respected by all.
I missed it, but Jerilderie's Coach (former berrigan coach Barry Roe) was on the box last night talking up there chances. was told at our training by one of the boys that know him well that they are only getting single digits to training.
With the start date of the season being pushed back to the 12th we will play our round 15 match againts them on the 5th, something that both clubs wanted.

Was recently speaking to AFL draftee, re expections put upon them and tried to do a bit of research to consider whether some self inflicted prices placed on PDFL players were extreme.
I admit some of these figures are very broad however here goes.
AFL players on average, including rookies, get around $ 70 ,000 per annum and are on call 24-7, 12 months a year and get scrutinised nationally, and from what I'm told average around 40 hours a week, either training, travelling to play, re-hab, media and club promotion over 44 weeks a year.
Thats a taxable hourly rate of around $ 40 an hour.
Most player payments in the country are cash, to avoid the 46 odd % tax for a second job, therefore if taxed would be nearly halfed.
AFL average $ 40 taxable or $ 21.60 cash.
In comparsion, I suggest a contracted PDFL player would be expected to do around 8hrs.
Maybe some that have not even looked like being decent major country league footballers have got big heads and no thought for what they are doing, or I can't add up.
But it just does not seem to make sense, that clubs with such small money earning capacity in relation to the AFL clubs, are paying such high prices for players that would not get a game in Murray League and are extremely less talented than those that are getting paid less, per hour, in the AFL ???
Yet we wonder why country clubs are struggling.

True Blue to stay home

Tom Biddington

Picola United has retained the services of former Murray Bushrangers star John Walker.
It's a big coup for the club, which was almost resigned to fact the talented 19-year-old would be playing with a VFL or major league club this year.
Those offers came in thick and fast, but in the end Walker wanted to play with the Blues, the club where he played his junior footy, and Picola United coach Matt Daniel couldn't be happier.
``He decided he wanted to stay and play with his mates,'' Daniel said.
``It's great for the club and it's really lifted the morale of everyone around the club.''
Walker was best afield for the Bushrangers in their TAC Cup grand final loss last year, with the performance catching the eye of the Kangaroos, who invited him down to train with the club in the lead-up to the AFL draft.
But once Walker was overlooked, clubs like Werribee, Shepparton and Shepparton United came calling.
At 194cm and about 90kg, Walker is a nightmare to match up on, with the Bushrangers exploiting that versatility by using him as a key forward, key defender and even utilising his athleticism on the wing at times.
It's a problem Daniel is pleased to have.
``I will use him everywhere,'' he said.
``When he played with us a few years ago he played centre half-back and stood out.
``He's very creative, but he'll just go wherever we need him at the time.''
The signing of Walker has helped soften the blow of Picola United losing another promising player in Alistair Corry to Nathalia.
Corry won the PDFL's Rising Star award last year and finished second in the Blues' best and fairest.
``He's just decided to go over and see how he goes,'' Daniel said.
``I think he's the biggest loss, but we're also going to be without Adam Brunt, Travis Johnstone and Russ Myers from last year. ``But training has been pretty good so far, we've had 20-25 on the track every night and we're hopeful of getting a spot in the eight.''

boys the word is that Strath are also going to obtain the services of Drew Shadbolts older brother, apparently this bloke can play, has kicked 100 goals in a season three times, in the farrer, riverina, and QAFL leagues. the word is he will be very handy in that comp. He is in the Army and moves around a bit and will travel to play with his brother for the first time. If they get him along with the other possible recruits they look like a top three team this year, with a quality coach in Dicko.:)

Please how can you say that they will be in the top 3 when 90% of the players they have said are going there have not been cleared and poss will not be.... they are going to have to get atleast 10-14 good players to even push top 5. And saying dicko is a quality coach.... has he even coached before????? Pull your head in :D

I agree top three is going to be real hard to crack into, at best strathy will be looking for is top 6.The guys from shepp Dicko, Shadbolt, Taylor, Richardson will all be cleared. The boys are in disscussions with Shepp at the moment. Cole shouldnt be a problem. Smith has already been cleared from Yarrawonga. Luke carter has been cleared and Brad carter is returning from injury. With the older shadbolt brother and a couple of others still in discussions strathy should have 10 walk up starters. Will be a lot more competitive than last year but with 10 or so new players in the mix itll take a few games for things to settle down and Katandra, Deni and Jerrilderie in the first 4 games strathy will find it hard to pinch a win.

Spot on, I dont see strathy being a top 3. Must be a lot of coin getting thrown out at strathy this year! They won 5 games last year. Now they might be able to win 10. But that still does not get them into the top 6.

True..!! Dookie won 8 games the season before their break through.

With Dookie, Deni, Tungamah, Shepp East all signing alot of players, they can only improve aswell.
Waaia are always good and dare I say Katandra with D. Hall. Picola have been steady in the last few years. A few gone from Picola, but not that many have left the other two clubs.

Just want to know where the strathy boys will fit in with those few clubs??

Yeah with all the recruiting going on i think the PDFL has taken another step up. Going to be tough year just to make finals even with the 8.

My top 8 for 08 in some sort of order

I reckon this might stir some comments.

Dookie
Shepp east
Katandra
Deni
Tunga
Strathy
Waaia
Picola

Was in Waaia area recently and decided to have a sneak peak at training.
Waasdorp looks devastingly fit (strong little bastard too), Meyland (oldest one) looks particularly lethal - overall team seems pretty experienced and fit. Time will tell!

Yes this year will definatly be a big step up with the players coming in true true... My top 8 would be

Dookie
Shepp East
Katunga
Waaia
Katandra
Picola
Deni
Tunga

But not even the night series or practice matches will say how good these teams are going until they start going head to head in the real deal... Good luck to all the teams and we all look forward to a great year ahead in the PDFL.

Ok mate $100 that Katunga will not finish the 2008 Home & away season in 3rd possition. Will you take that bet? Remember everyone on this forum is a witness!

Also "Quinten" is that just your login name or did someone play a cruel joke on you at birth?

My top eight would be:

Dookie
Deni
Waaia
Blightly
Shepp East
Katandra
Tunga
Strathy

Not in any particular order though.probably agree with that.maybe some movements on the clearances list may help form an order.Picola don't seem to have had clearances from Brunt or Johnstone. Are they definately going? Is there a new draw out .The first one I saw didn't seem right.

Pretty sure Brunt is going as I think he or someone from Tongala were in the Shepp News talking about it. Don't know about Johnstone.
Also there was a revised draw out recently if that helps. Maybe check the PDFL website.

Katamatite have much the same as last year, only loss to date is Xav Kennedy, and no recruitment news as of yet. Will be much the same as last year. Yarroweyah are being coached by Derek Oliver. No big recruits to date, not losing much with the likes of Fitpatrick leaving the club, Te Jones going to Tungamah will leave a bit of a hole. Not much else to report on those two fronts though.

Yeah Ive heard similar things from Katamatite. Have not recruited much at all so should expect similar things from them. Yarroweyah has said they are concentrating on junior development and player retension.

The only things that I've heard is that they are not getting to many on the track at the moment, but they don't have a great deal of players in town so that could be the reason. Stuart Way hasn't been yet and no word on what the FF is doing, will see at Barooga night series.

Not sure weather we still playing Finley and Mul in praccy matches but we have one coming up at Chiltern over there

Chiltern, should be a nice drive home. a few pubs between there and home. Mul will be a good tester for you guys to see where you are at. How are the saints shaping up for season '08'

Not sure if it has already been mentioned or common knowledge but i was talking someone from Berrigan on the weekend and he said that you're coach has left due to work commitments. is it true, if so where does it leave the senior side and club so close to the season

Dale Alderton has announced that due to family work commitments that he and his family will be moving to Nagambie, what I’ve heard is that he is still looking at coaching coming back on the Thursday to take training, staying Fri and coaching on the Saturday, but this will depend on employment and the likes.
Has come a blow to all, DA is a huge asset to the club both on and off the field, club is on top of issue and as it pans out over the next week of so more will be known.
I’ll let you know more when I hear it

Correct me if I am wrong TrainerNo1 but out of the 8 transfers that katunga have put in there doesnt seem to be a great deal of quality. 2nd's players or second rung seniors at best. So I reckon not a lot has gone on in the past 2 days just taken their admin this long to get their transfers through!

There are rumors around that Numurkah gun forward/midfielder Mark Brown may be making the big move from the blues to the swans for season 08.

It will be quiet a big boost to the swans if it all goes well.
I also see that waaia have had a major pick-up with the long awaited return of Sam Richardson to the club. Has spent the last few years playing for the bendigo bombers reserves and also played a few in the senior team as well. will bolster an already impressive midfield unit at the bombers.

Good one d!ckhead. Class footballer who gave the best he could at all levels, from very close to the top (Sydney Swans) to nearer the bottom in the PDFL. Ran rings around many guys half his age. Unfortunately we couldn't finish off the job whilst he was coach.
