I'm interested in being one of Brisbane's recruiters for the Big Footy Phantom Draft.

Any other Lions supporters like to give some advice on who we should draft in the 'BigFooty Phantom Draft'?

It looks like I'm the Brisbane Lions rep.

It'll also be interesting to see how close the Phantom Draft is to the real thing.

There are 7 spaces on the list. I would be looking to use five draft picks in the pre-season draft and leaving one for the pre-season draft and one space for possible inclusion from the rookie list next season.

Four of those five would be on young talent and the fifth on a recycled player, such as Scott Cummings, Matthew Collins, Adam Houlihan or Jared Poulton (if they're still available and our other draft picks haven't met all our needs)

Should we use our third round priority pick? If so, on who. It appears anyone coming from Broadbeach and Southport are ineligible as a Priority Pick, because they are outside the 50 Km recruiting zone.

Open to suggestions/advice.

My preference for this would be to pick up Darren Bradshaw - younger brother of Daniel - from AFLQ club Mt Gravatt.

Plays FF - He has a different style to Daniel and is more along the style lines of Lynch, and imo he is a better/surer mark than his older brother and is already showing signs of having the physical/strength capabilites of Lynch, yet with more pace. I would love to see the Lions pick him up and groom him to take over when Lynch retires.

As a result of the first two rounds of the BIGFOOTY PHANTOM DRAFT, the Brisbane Lions are extremely pleased to welcome Quinten Lynch and Ben Finnin to the club for 2002 and beyond.

Taken at Pick No. 19, Quinten Lynch is a tall, powerful long kicking impact player who can defend or go forward. After winning All-Australian honors and playing senior football in the WAFL in 2001, Leigh Matthews and his recruiters see him as the ideal replacement for Matthew Kennedy at full back and expect him to possibly slot straight into the senior team next season. As a result it's expected that the versatile Mal Michael or Justin Leppitsch may be called upon to spend more time up forward, in the next few seasons, especially in the wake of Alistair Lynch's retirement.

Another 2001 U/18 All- Australian, Ben Finnin has also joined the club. Matthews stated that the Lions were a little surprised to see Finnin still available at Pick 35, but were very happy to pick him with the second selection and couldn't read his name out quick enough, when their turn came. At 189 cm tall, Matthews and his recruiting staff, see Finnin as the logical replacement for two-time premiership player Martin Pike, who while still a very handy player, is entering the twilight of his career. Finnin is a mobile player who is a strong mark and a long left foot kick.

When asked what their targeted players were before the draft, Matthews stated. "Well we looking long and hard at Sam Power, David Hale and Quinten Lynch as being our priorities, but of course with our first pick at 19, we had almost no chance of getting Power, and Hale was only a fair to middling chance. To pick up Quinten Lynch where we were, is a good result for us. We're very happy. "

Rounds 3 and 4 of the draft are tomorrow night. Matthews stated, "Well, I'll have a chat to my recruiting staff tonight. We'll reassess our priorities, and our deficiencies and target some of the remaining youngsters, who we think will do the job for us." When asked whether the Lions will recruit any players delisted from other clubs, Matthews just smiled and stated, "We're looking at a couple in particular and depending on who the other clubs take tomorrow night, we may just have a couple of surprises up our sleeves."

The Lions have picks 45, 51, 67, 83 and 99 remaining.

Any other Brisbane Lions supporters like to offer advice, particularly in relation to possible delisted players? I don't really want to post my thoughts here, in case we are trumped by the recruiters of other clubs, who may be lurking.

One that has already been metioned by Danni, is Darren Bradshaw. He's a possibility with our last one or two draft picks, or perhaps being named as one of our 6-7 rookies.
