That team looks pretty good to me. The only thing I would consider is putting Pickett on the back flank to add some more grunt and also some more run off half back. It would be nice to have Pickett and Miller at opposite ends so the opposition knows there head could get knocked off at either end :p . But the lineup looks good for another finals birth(lets hope we can do a lot better with it). :thumbsu:
I hope Carroll can really step up and stay injury free

I agree although I hate seeing Yze as a forward. Too good to be a forward. Need a bit off youth to come through.
Agree on putting choppy (;)) down back, especially considering big bad bradley will be at CHF. The defence is pretty soft compared to Neitz and Miller up forward. Good team though. I'd love to see Sylvia start too, but not sure if there are many spots with a fit and healthy team.

Miller to get suspended in the pre-season for rolling somebody in a misguided attempt to make himself feel like a man.
The side above looks okay.
However note: Yze is training in the defensive groups at training currently.
This would mean Yze to the HBF in my opinion. Brown to the bench, Robbo to the FP & Sylvia in and onto the HFF.

I really don't like Yze in the backline. Has lost some pace and can be the matchwinner up forward. Sure he provides rebound and better skills than Brown but I think he is too old now.

Pre Season games will have a big say. For example Brocky cemented a spot in the middle this year by performing in the Wizard Cup.

C. T.Johnstone B.Moloney C.Sylvia
HF. B.Green B.Miller A.Yze
F. A.Davey R.Robertson D.Neitz

I think most of us agree Yze had an ordinary season, yet he still managed 40 goals as a small forward which is good in anyone's books. I think rotating him and Green between the wing and forward line would work well next season. Green is a natural forward with a deadly shot for goal. Yze is a natural midfield with great skills.
YC's team is pretty much it.
I'd swap PJ for Jamar at this stage, and Ben Holland would come in, maybe for Bizzell. The three tall target with Robbo as the fourth tall is essential, especially considering the increased pressure Robbo will be under defensively after 70 goals this year.

Why is Yze a given?
I think he along with Brown and Bizzell will have to work very hard to keep, or in fact find themselves a spot in the side. Our future is with Mclean, Sylvia, Bell, Johnson... and if Yze is 'injured' or otherwise lazy, he should fight for a spot like everyone else.
Don't forget, the likes of Bate, Dunn and even Nick Smith :o will probably get their chances in 2006. We have too many front running, small, lightly framed players, and none of them are a shoe-in for a position in the side. If we're going to challange for a flag, we need everyone to be worried about getting a game each week, and performing like their position is under threat (it worked for Carroll).

Carroll wasnt just playing for his spot, he was playing for his career and he did a magnificent job towards the end of the year.
We need more players to stand up when others are down, Melbourne really lack an inspirational leader because as much as i like Yze, he is not a natural leader and will never be one because when others put their heads down, he doesnt stand up and its not just him. Where were Bizzell, Green, Brown and White during our run of losses this year?

It's a funny one with Yze. I definately would have dropped him at some stage during our losing streak, but looking towards a fresh season I think we should have a clean slate and put our best 22 out there. And remember, he was still a handy goalscoring option for us, kicking 40 goals this season.

Brown did a fair job towards the end of the season. I think he gives his all each week.
Beamer and TJ are the obvious midfield leaders. Miller, Neita, Fergy and Carroll don't stop trying either.

Does N.Jones come into anyone's calculations now?

he should be a starting midfielder in the nab cup (new wizard cup for those who cant keep up with the afl stupid name changes) and then we will see how he preforms there.
probably not a starting 22 player yet unless he has a rip-snorter of a nab cup

Yze has been training in the backline this pre-season, and I have a strong feeling we won't be seeing him up forward in 2006.
If he's going to go back to his HBF position, he will have some stiff competition. Brown, Bell and CJ will all want a slice of the flanker pie. Brown has proved his dedication and hard work, while Bell and CJ are our future. If Yze wants a permanent spot in the side, he will have to work hard to get it.
Nobody gets an easy ride in a premiership side.

I'm with you, though I would like to see Deestroy's idea in a different thread eventuate and Bell gets some tagging jobs next year.
