Thurley heads for the draft (http://gfc.com.au/default.asp?pg=news&spg=display&articleid=237568)
Looks as though he thought he could get a better deal at another club, pitty we could not get something for him during trade week, to loose a second round draft pick for nothing hurts.
I guess that he could have a lot more oppurtunitys at another club but I was always hopeful he would come good and be a regular in the forward pocket, but I guess with the likes of GAJ, chappy, johnson he would only ever be the back up.

Get back to work - there will be no time for BF in 2006!!

i think thurley is being selfish in seeking a better contract.
does any one no what geelong was offering him ?
shorly he could have shown loyalty to the club that gave him a chance as an unproven mature age recruit

Would have to agree with that. I hope he has a back up plan, because i could see him falling flat on his face.
'Surely' he could have shown some pride for the jumper.

it would serve him right if no one picked him up, but you would think someone would.
if it were not that we have arguably the best small fowards in the comp ( chapy, GAJ, steve J) he could have had a regular spot and kicked 40 odd goals because he is a bloody good set shot for goal like when he just kicked 4 out of no where against the blues

Freakn tosser. He can go f**k himself with that poor and selfish attitude. GFC will be better off without him.
At the moment he's not worth a new 2 year contract, but he was worth a 1 year deal.
He would've struggled to get a regular senior game unless he could become a bit of an onballer in the seniors,as well as a HFF.He's good onball in the VFL,but the standard in AFL is a lot different and he struggled to be accountable.

didn't realise he was a second rounder. am a little surprised of his departure and a little annoyed with the fact we couldn't secure him. I aren't annoyed with cameron himself though, and I can't understand how people on here could be. all he was doing was being realistic. his opportunities would be limited at geelong but probably not so much at at least 5 other clubs. we as supporters are the ones being selfish if we were to get in his way!!

I'm annoyed at the club more than anything. Poor pick. Poor gamble.
Said when he was drafted was a poor pick @ 22. Lovely finisher but needed to add a lot more to his game to stay on the list.

He'll probably end up at Carlton. IIRC they were interested in drafting him at the time we were and he would probably get a regular gig in that squad as well.
Good luck to him.

JimBoy makes sense, is that why you're a mod?

The Roos have offered him a two year deal. Has ability and you would prefer to have him on the list but would have been on the fringes all year.
Not a big deal.

I can see why he'd want to leave, he's got a fair bit of competition in front of him and I can see Nathan Ablett playing a few games in a pocket or on a flank where he'd be ahead of Thurley. Add to that Mackie, SJ as well as the rotation of Gaz, Chappy and Kel means that Thurls would have to wait for a number of injuries before he got a game. It may seem selfish, but he needs to establish himself in the AFL now or his career won't go anywhere. Good luck to him, just not against Geelong.

Not too dissapointed with the whole situation.
While I didn't mind Thurley, I can definitely see why he would be looking for a new club and more opportunities.
Best of luck too him, I won't be booing him if he's in different colours next year.

I'll be supporting him like I did with Moloney - Former Cats becoming a part of another teams best 22.

All you people think your smart dont yous... Put yourself in this position........ Your pushing 24 years of age, cant cement yourself in the 22 as you are competing with the likes of ablett, johnson, chapman, mackie and so... also geelong offers you a one year contract but another club offers you two (with a better salary)....
what would you guys do? Do you think afl clubs are loyal these days? NO they will do everything in their best interests.. and all you people that were saying hes no big loss and you wouldnt miss him, are the same people hanging S$@! on him...
you people amaze me.. im out!
who is thurley training with at the moment, still at geelong or has he gone elsewhere, if anyone knows greatly appreciated?
All you people think your smart dont yous

Would it be too smart of me to suggest you add an apostrophe and an e to "you're", and to drop the s from "you"? Or would that be too clever? Is there a difference between being smart and being clever?
yep it's a shame he wouldn't stay on for another year and put 110% into getting a regular gig.
It is also a shame to see one of our few straight kicking forwards moving on but his game is still very raw.
As patdman said good luck just not against the hoops!

Strength : Good shot for goal and could be a good permanent half forward/forward pocket.
Weakness : Good onballer in the VFL,but not in the AFL.
