How will he make his way back? By scoring a hell lot of runs

And this ain't the same situation as many of the domestic batsmen of the 90s who can score millions and still get overlooked, selectors won't overlook Pup if he keeps piling them, since they clearly favour him

My boy will be back, be it a year or two years

It really doesnt sit well with me referring to another male as "pup" and "my boy".

Anyways the way Clarke is going to get back into the Test side, is by getting his head down and scoring some runs for his state just like Hussey and Hodge have done over recent years and he will get another call up.

Clarke (provided he scores runs) will force his way back into the team at the expense of either Langer or Hayden. May not be this summer, but I think by the Ashes next year he will be back!

Clarke will make a hell of a lot of runs, and get a call up again, hopefully sooner rather then later. I'd like to see him back to his best.

With one-day commitments he may only have one or two first class matches this season. Not conducive to finding form and making a mountain of runs. Will he return to county cricket?

I thought you would've found out by now that not many people on this board cares about what you think :)

He won't make it back.

About 20 better bats than him in Aus.

Sorry Clarkey move to NZ or something.

People say he will make a stack of runs in FC cricket to get back in. That would be a first.

Considering the average age of the Australian team, especially the top order, I'd say we are going to be very desperate for players in the near future. Already Langer is half the player hew was, Gilchrist is on the verge of nothingness now, Hayden is in his last throw even if we bring back Watson, he has shown a lack of batting ability at this level and little form with the ball. Warne and and Mcgrath and even Macgill are aging fast.

I think he'll go decently, and maybe not as well as some others, but they'll pick him as soon as they feel he's ready again. After a bit of a cooling off period, as soon as he gives the selectors an excuse to pick him, they'll do so.

And he'll do very well on his return over the first 10 Tests, too...

He won't have to do much to get back in, and he'll be back in pretty soon.

Won't have to do too much , a few half decent scores at first class level will be enough to lift his confidence and allow the selectors to put him straight back in .

It will be interesting though if Hodge and Hussey keep producing runs .

Hodge is a gun 12,000 first class runs tells the story. Hussey is a a bit impish. The first test he played recklessly and got out. Might struggle like Katich did.

He's playing the Windies, who cares how reckless he is? And doesn't he have something like 15,000 first class runs? that tells the story, Hussey is a gun.

Clarke has to learn he doesn't have a "Divine Right" to be in the side, but if he can get selected with a FC average of 38, then he wont have to do much at Pura Cup level to be reinstated, which is a shame for guys like Phil Jaques who deserve it more.

I think that this has been a major problem for Clarke. In the few years before he got the call up, he had simply not played enough 4-day first class Australian cricket. He was playing meaningless one dayers when he should have been polishing his technique.

If the selectors continue to use the one-day team as a stepping stone for test caps, the summer program should be worked out so that the one-dayers do not clash so heavily with the moo-cow cup or we will have too many young players corrupting thier techniques for the one-day game and then be found wanting in Test cricket.

Where's the move to Victoria and suck up to Merv Hughes option?

clarke is gonna have to wait for his chance in the test arena again.

he'll need to produce runs for NSW and in the one day game to keep his name at the front of the queue when a spot comes up. its more a case of one of the top 7 bats having a slump to put someone in, than score heaps of runs and ya back in. when an oppurtunity arises he needs to grab it, whether it be an injury or retirement forces someone out or a etc. hodge and hussey have now done that and its fair to say have deserved a chance at the top level. the same applies to hussey and hodge they had to wait ages and aren't producing big runs like a few years ago, but there were no positions in the team up for grabs. there hard work is now paying dividends.

which makes me wonder, the last time an aussie team had no NSW bats was the 2 tests katich was out immediately after waugh's retirement in sri lanka when they opted for symonds. prior to that it was in the 1985 ashes series
