Why would you want to play div 4 in a stuggling side after playing div 1 footy ? Must be a dollar involved somewhere along the line. "Goodluck" to him if he can get it but I wouldn't be holding my breath on getting paid or singing the club song to much in 2007. My mail is the club still has internal troubles and still carn't agree on committee matters with a new young board you would think things should look to improve, but from what I hear the club will be lucky to finish the year. Let alone pay players.

if u are refering to what the kid said i know the bloke he is talking about very well he hasnt played for 4 yrs and he quit after 19's he isnt gunna take the game by the throat in fact i'm 99% sure he wont even play ones, he'd love to play at creek but he would struggle to get a game at all so he is going to the amos to have some fun wit other mates

This thread's been a bit hard to follow lately. I thought Alfy was talking about the bloke going to play at St Mary's from one of the A grade teams?? Was he referring to him or someone else going to play at Bulleen?

Also, who's O from Bulleen? If he's had a go at that fat fool Badanjek then he's got a good grasp on who the club needs around for it to progress.

Joe D'Angelo is past his use by date. He must of been senior coach now since about '99 - surely if the club's only had limited success in that time then they have to look for someone new. Especially given the fact that during his time there have been a number of quality players earning good money indirectly through the club from sponsors.

Pat, O is a past player and ex President. Always seemed to have the club at heart. Had been a player and committee member when it was still the Bulls. Badanjek doesn't seem to be a very popular fellow. Has he upset a few in D4. When he returned from Nuna wasn't he going to be the great saviour. By what appears on this thread all he must do is eat.

O always had the club at heart. He was a great servent of the club & the club owes him a great deal. It probably (almost certainly) wouldn't exist today without his input over a great many years.

Unfortunately for everyone, and most of all O, he did something that was inappropriate for anyone at a club.

He still deserves a great deal of respect from people involved in the club & I for one hope that he can be welcomed back at some stage. He may not be 'everyone's cup of tea' personally, but his desire to see the footy club survive & thrive, and his preparedness to do the work required when others would sit on their a$$, shouldn't be questioned.

The O business is 12 months old now.

No outlandish predictions, but I know that there are quite a few genuine new players to the club - not blokes promising returns after a period of inactivity. I guess we'll know more in a month, as will everyone else!

Bulleen for mine will be bottom 4 if they see out the season.
Surely the club can see they need a change of direction at the helm with no real success over the past 5-6 years.

Moved on to alternate pastures. He only played in a couple of games... Surprised he left that much of a mark!

I don't know that Bulleen could have beaten Elsternwick in '05, but they wouldn't have been too far off the money had it not been for injuries suffered in the first final. Were you there?

No predictions at this stage. I'll let other blokes do that......

I hope the talk of Sean Allan is off the mark.

Regardless I want to wish him all the very best.

As someone who played against Sean many times over the years, even coming to blows in the early days and was toweled up by him more times than I care to remember, I have a high regard for him.

He also came across as a quality bloke off the field.

No doubt that the Sharks have some quality players; Payne, Creswell, Viola, Bowen etc. If they improve their depth they would be a big chance.
But where will they be playing this year? Whitehorse Reserve is currently covered by a very impressive mountain of dirt!
Could there be a return to the original Shark Park at Eley Road?

They did pretty good for the first few games last year (seniors), then got a few injuries and had no depth at all, seemed like good blokes and a good club from our two games, wouldn't be suprised if they improved on last year, can't see finals this year though!!!

29 Jan 2007, 19:47
Ahha numbers on the track? ;) The question that needs to be asked is what are the stocks like? If there is a huge number of gumbys running around, then the success will not follow. They need quality, and also blokes who are willing to bust their guts week in week out to get/earn their place in the teams, not to drop out 2-3 weeks into the season caus' they are not getting a game. They need to be putting pressure on the blokes who are playing, so numbers in pre-season doesn't really add up to much more than a bigger bar take on a wednesday night during preseason.
I might shoot back to the club to do a preseason.;) ;)
Good luck to the lads down at KB ressie this year though, sounds like they are getting their s*&t together

Best of luck to the boys down there at KB reserve to say they've had some tough times would be an understatment and all it takes in d4 is a few quality inclusions and you can turn things around. Also saw the saints train knackers but would think they need another quality key position player to be a serious threat.

Something has stirred me from my summer slumber. Did someone mention 'spying'?

Not a lot to see really. As most teams are effected by the drought restrictions from their local councils. So it is lots of running, cross training, strength work and swimming. Coaches are really earning their stripes this year. The majority of teams can't set foot on their home grounds until further notice.

I can foresee some strange and unique training sessions in the next few months. Let us know about these eccentric coaching activities (doing a 'Malcom Blight')

It's hot, it's tough work and the pre-season looks like it may not even give up a practice game. So let's at least have a laugh at it.

I know one team ran to the Doncaster Shopping Town hotel and all had one on their new reserves coach. It was the only night he was praying for a low turnout at training.

BTW, heard a classy forward was within a wisker of moving to the other side of the Eastern Freeway. Still pondering his options as they say. The choice isn't black and white; more like 'Red' and 'White'.

I know there are plenty of teams hitting the bermuda triangle of running tracks - Princes Park, Albert Park and the 'Tan. Hardly innovative, but the options are reasonably limited.

No idea who you are talking about re: red/black/white forwards crossing the freeway - unless you are talking about Fraser Gehrig coming out of the closet?

The 'tans track must be wearing a bit thin! Pity they won't let you take footies into the gardens... there are some great spaces in there for a kick.

With Sth Morn coming into D4, all the other clubs will get to play the yellow and black strip 4 times a year! And neither clubs senior side won a game last season. Hmmmm.

Can't see North Brunswick winning too many games this year. Second last for mine... maybe even bottom (nobody seems to know anything about Sth Mornington although I gather they didn't win many last year).

Spies tell me Richmond Central have turned the corner. They are my tip for the big improve this season - perhaps no longer wooden spooners for once.

Also heard on the grapevine that there were a few disgruntled St Marys players unhappy with the decision to bring on the 2 new playing coaches - disappointed that their ressies coach from last season didn't get the gig.

And just on a few saints players being disgruntled with the new coach. this couldn't be further from the truth all the boys are rapt to have jedda and vaughn back in the fold and are looking forward for the season to get underway, as i'm sure everyone is.

Should be an interesting season with the drought, new teams on board and the constant chatter on here! Throwing the crystal ball into the air;

Bulleen
St Marys
Albert Park
UHSVU
Box Hill North
Eltham
Eley Park
Syndnal Tally Ho
North Brunswick
Mt Lilydale
Richmond Central
South Mornington

Eley Park to be the big improvers if they have been doing hill climbs at their home ground!

i think your crystal ball is on the money, except that your top 6 is upside down.

Spies tell me Richmond Central have turned the corner. They are my tip for the big improve this season - perhaps no longer wooden spooners for once.

Your spies appear to be on the money On the Full. Numbers at training for the Centrals have been excellent so far, with over 50 players showing up at least once and averaging 30 plus at each session.

Hard to see them not winning the flag in 07!

How are the new players from Old Westbourne going at their new club Centrals07?

How are the new players from Old Westbourne going at their new club Centrals07?

Danny is doing a terrific job as senior coach and you're probably aware that he has brought his son Oden with him down to the Centrals. As far as I'm aware though, he is the only Westbourne player that has come across. Danny's a very honourable bloke and has made a conscious effort not to try and poach players away from Westbourne, which I think is a testiment to his character.

We're mainly trying to improve the skills of our current players and we've managed to pick up a few newbies along the way. Still a very long way to go but signs so far are encouraging.

Just one win for the season would be an improvement so the club can only head in one direction from here. We've done some pretty hard yards over the past few seasons and the current crop of players have shown a great deal of heart to stick together.

The committee have been working tirelessly over the past two seasons and whilst we're yet to create a successful on-field culture they have done everything in their power to ensure that the club remains alive and well in the future.

I think you may be getting another one down there as well C07. A ruckman by the name of Steve Laird. If so I think you'll be pleased - he rucked most of the first half of the year in our seniors and did a pretty good job. 6'4"-6'5" thick set and pretty mobile.

You're right, Danny is a very honourable bloke. He put a lot of time into the club and developing the players that played under him. Our ressies went from middle of the road to losing in the prelim against a side stacked full of senior players. The most noticable change amongst the group last year was the belief he instilled amongst the players - every week they went out they thought they could win, regardless of who they were playing or what the make up of the side was.

Hopefully he can bring some of that belief back to your club. Good luck for the season and tell Danny that Platters said hello.

C07; Perhaps I'll have to reassess my ladder - Centrals to finish last.... You'll need to do a bit more than "improve the skills of current players", and you'll need more than "a few newbies" based on last season's results.

If you're happy with just the one win for the season then the wooden spoon should be back at KB this year.

There will come a time when Centrals will stand tall and take immense pride with the success they will have achieved. Although I am not part of this club, I have a strong sense that they re-building the club from the ground up based on integrity. This will pay off handsomely in the long run both on and off the field. Compared to those clubs who look for quick gratification and abuse the system, I know you guys will always be able to hold your heads high when it comes to signing the VAFA's stat. decs.
Hang in there Secretary!

Old Warrior, re: former OW Ruckman going to Richmond: number 28? Probably closer to 120kg than 100?

Nothing at all. There wouldn't be a grade lower than D1 were it not for fat old blokes.

Just curious as to who this bloke is... and potentially questioning the 'mobile' attribute.

seems like this year the league will be quite strong from all the banter going on...

saw on box hill north site that they have been training at dunloe ave... sorry to say guys, I grew up swimming in that pool, not much of a pool , its a indoor 20mtr with depth 1.5mtr. hardly get a work out in between the old grannies doing aqua aerobics and pissing in the pool.

nice people down there must admit and the gym has decent weights, but not enough for me!

put the Q out there, whats the max bench press at your club?

Have we had confirmation that Anthony Banick will indeed be running around Ferndale Park this season?

Also, anyone know how the new clubs - South Mornington and Mt Lilydale are shaping up for 2007?

Last I heard Anthony Bannik was living in Yarram ... a two and a half hour trip out of town on the South Gippy highway.

Would be an amazing commitment by him to make a five hour round trip each weekend.

Screw the naysayers, good on you guys! At least you've got the cojones to give it a red-hot go this year.

Make sure you let everyone know well in advance when your home game at Punt Rd is on - should be a great feeling running onto the hallowed turf.

I can't remember what number Lairdy had. 100kgs, 120kgs..... either way he's a big unit and is agile as well. Has a basketball background so gets around okay.
