Great news Observer!
Heard a whisper you guys lost a few from the game?
Watts - Knee
Gorringe - shoulder?
Both missing a few months?
Good to see wazza still can get plenty of it, in best again the old fella:)
quote=the_observer;7823494]Released from hospital yesterday ahead of schedule. Will be at home recovering for a while but the worst is behind him and he will make a 100% recovery. :)
If thats true, then they are huge losses for Uni High as they are both key players. Watts is great around stoppages

You probably know that the Elgar Park lads send a team over each year to play in the Narita Cup. Usually held over the Queens B'day weekend, this year it is being held early October. I'm sure you would be welcome to go on this unique trip if you so desired. Afterall; they take a white maggott with them each year. The representative from the Seeing Eye Dog School loves it over there as the Japanese actually believe he is correct in every decision. Unlike a frustrated BHN player Tri Thoi (the lesser no.11) who must be the only player in Aussie Rules history to be red carded for umpire abuse twice in one game.
Sorry Nelly.:p
:cool:It would appear that this is the"get stuck into nelly week",the VAFA umpires website www.vafaua.asn.au have pre published the umpires corner for this week that goes in the amateur footballer,a glance at the last article"Does it add up",will explain why I am instructing my legal council to apply for an injunction as we speak:mad:

Come on Sausage - you're disappointing us all. All of this reminds me of 2006 somehow. St Marys remind me of Eltham last year - looking unbeatable and telling everyone about it early but possibly prone to faltering when the pressure is really on. Could St Mary's do an 'Eltham' this year and get blown away in straight sets; and can the sleepers, UHS-VU do a similar job as Power House did last year? Looking more likely by the week.
The Saints will be too good for Nth Bruns, but it will be interesting to see the margin to put some perspective on their big win v Box Hill last week.
UHS-VU by a bunch over Eley Park.
Sth Morn too good for Albert Park.
Box Hill should break the drought against Bulleen... but who knows... might be time for an upset hey cobras?
I think Syndal might upset Lilydale in those strange windy conditions at Jordan reserve...
Eltham will probably be too talented for Richmond, but we'll give it a fighting go...
Good luck everyone!

Mate, they are the ones that have got it wrong with the figures.
Surely it is obvious to all that an 'INTERNATIONAL' umpire such as yourself is attuned to a higher level of football.
You are not a 30% man, you are a 33 1/3 % man. This is the amount required for AFL games where the 3 umpire system is in place.
I suggest this is the way to go in future and as there are plenty of players willing to umpire the game every Saturday let them cover the other 1/3.
Quality lasts longer than quantity.
Thats 1 f*#king hairy pillow!!!!!!!
dude you're alive...
that's not really my hair, tis a rug...
Me tips for Round Eight:
North Brunswick to upset Saint Marys
UHS-VU to beat Eley Park
South Mornington will be too good for Albert Park
Bulleen for the biggest upset of the YEAR over Box Hill North
Mount Lilydale to beat up Syndal Tally Ho
And the upset of the Round, Richmond to beat Eltham at home.
Good luck to all this weekend. May your team be the victor and your opponents be the not so victor (what ever that may mean)...

Ozza's Tips for Round 8:
Eltham to account for Richmond by 52.
Mt.Lilydale to get up over syndal - 22 points
South Mornington by one straight kick over the falcons.
UHS-VU to continue there winning ways - by 49 over the Sharks
BHN to beat Bulleen by 5 goals.

A few weeks in limbo lads. Oh for the Gold Coast.
Tips for this week.
Nth Brunnie seem to be improving but St Marys to bounce back by 6 goals.
UHS with a couple of big outs still far too strong for Sharks. Say 12 goals.
Sth Morny at home and a little fast for Falcons by 6 goals.
Box Hill look to be better off in Japan. Bulleen by 3 goals.
Mt Lilydale to preserve finals aspirations over Sinners by 7 goals.
Can Turtles turn it on without Hollywood? may be closer than many may suggest. Say Eltham by 5 goals.
All the best to Mick Sweeney and family and an enthralling and safe week of footy for all.

3/6 for me.. am i allowed to blame the long weekend?
this weekend
St Marys to be fired up after their first loss of the year over North Brunnie (or is this where the Saints fall in a bundle?)
UHS over Eley Park - unfortunately not a close game - UHS to definitely fight it out for a top two with Saints and Turtles
South Mornington at home over Albert Park (thanks for being so up and down AP)
Bulleen to get over BHN (until proven otherwise by BHN, what happened there??)
Syndal over Mt Lilydale in the match of the round, will be a close tight tussle
Eltham over Richmond
4/6.. maybe time to throw out the tipping crystal ball..
UHS over BHN by a fair amount
Eltham over Syndal by even more
St Marys over South Mornington by not too much, Souths run will trouble the Saints
Richmond over Bulleen by a few, will tell whether Richmond can pull together their glimpses of some form
Mt Lilydale over North Brunswick by a lot, getting better every week
Albert Park over Eley Park in the battle of the parks, by only a bit

It certainly seems like eley park stacked their reserves.... How else do they explain the discrepency of a reserves win versus a 200 point senior loss?
Unless UHSVU were low on numbers... Can someone explain this strange event?

I should think the Eley Park reserves players would care? It'd be like kissing your sister to get a win like that and then have to watch your senior side get demolished.
At any rate.. there isn't much to talk about on this thread at the moment so why not discuss it?

seriously, teams like Eltham and St. Marys are just pretenders, just as likely to loose few games during the year and then fall in a heap, St Marys have no ruck or any other height and Eltham rely too much on too few...
BnG, are you Sausage roll under a new alias & with a new team? Who is your new love child at UHS?
Any reasoning behind your comments about St Mary's & Eltham being pretenders & who are the people that Eltham rely on too heavily? I would have thought our spread of good onballers & goal kickers etc this season has been our strongest asset??

I'll give you the mail on Nth Brunny mate. You're pretty spot on with the above. Three of our very best players - (prob our two best, plus a top ten who's in the leadership group) that are all 6"3+ have done knee injuries. We have a few others out - but its the big guys that hurt most. This makes it very difficult to be competitive with the good sides. Its not an excuse, just a fact that it seems that anyone that comes down to our club - and can play key position seems to get long term injuries in the past two years. Like a curse!! (who's been putting the needles in dolls?). Thats not to say that we'd have beaten a team like St.Mary's- who were admittedly far too good - but we would've been a lot more competitive than a 151 point loss.
At our level - its hard to get quality big blokes, and losing a few really makes a massive difference. It means blokes like Moose or one of our wingman have to Ruck, and hurts our forward options.
The two's team has stayed relatively the same, and there are plenty of good reserves players - who are probably just slightly off being of senior standard.

Eltham looked very strong last weekend... the skills in the first quarter were top class for the length of the ground.
However!!! Once they got a ten goal lead they became very beatable :) There's a hint for knocking them off...

Yeah I was very annoyed with the guys at half time after slacking off & being lazy when 10 goals up. Saying that Richmond moved the ball pretty well when we started playing 5 meters off our opponent chasing kicks and I think most the guys just expected you to turn it back over?? Definetly didn't look like a team that has been on the bottom of the ladder in D4 for a few years! Keep up the improvement as I doubt more success isn't too far away.

Nothing fishy about it. The 2's played really well, and we were impotent in the main game. We did have quite a few players out, but that has happened every week and really highlights our lack of depth.
Nice dig Falcons07 about our one's goping to be beaten by other ressies teams - seeing as how you haven't played us this year and we split our games last year. Looking forward to playing you guys this week.

It wasnt actually meant like that but take it how you want, it was meant to highlight how strong some of the TOP reserves sides are definitely not all and I also was not the one who accused you guys of anything.
Never said you did, but don't bother back pedalling now about the cheap shot...........
Seriously though, to suggest that we would stack our reserves at any stage of the season, let alone half way through is ridiculous and insulting (not looking at you Falcon).
For a team that still has no home ground this season (and won't have, although big thanks to BHN for helping being so accomodating on Saturdays) and is forced to train on Monday and Wednesday, because the council give the ground to a bunch of 10 frisbee throwing p**fs. Then try and get the group together again on Thursday for the teams and dinner, to see our twos at 4 and 4, is the best thing so far about this year. Good on them and hopefully they continue to play well and push for senior selection!!
Still looking forward to this week regardless;)

About time someone answered.
Fair enough... I just wanted to know how that happens... Can't say you see that kind of result every week?
Anyone care to comment on Mt.Lilydale and anything notable about their players or the way they play. I have had mixed reports on them....but generally that they are good and only getting better.
About time someone answered.
Fair enough... I just wanted to know how that happens... Can't say you see that kind of result every week?
I think I may have a more plausible answer.
CJ is rightfully standing up for his club. They have worked just as hard as Richmond off field in their efforts to field 2 competitive teams (doing the Lazarus from clubbies). The set backs around their ground availability are a knife cutting open a scar. All teams struggle to get and hold players in D4, several struggle to impress new recruits with the standard of facilities. How hard must it be, to be akin to a gypsy team of the lowest level of VAFA?
Now to my take on what may have happened on Saturday.
Looking at the team lists from both seniors and reserves, it appears that in order to avoid forfeiting the 2s game, through lack of numbers, many senior players have doubled up. I only looked very briefly and found 4 regular senior players who had played both games. If I studied more closely I believe I may find several more. This would have the obvious effect of helping the quality of the magoos. Unfortunately it would severely hamper the performance of the ones.
It would seem that this wasn't about stacking the 2s; more like some quality people (and the Sharks have plenty) sacrificing their own personal goals to ensure those 2s boys who were ready to play got that opportunity. After all it is overall about having a kick, first and foremost. Those players, and the senior coach who agreed to this, should be commended for their decision. The club will only be stronger in the long term for going this route.:thumbsu:
Would still like to see one United Box Hill team. But it is probably just an old codger's dream.

Would still like to see one United Box Hill team. But it is probably just an old codger's dream.
Well that makes perfect sense! Thanks Spy1... will put that rumor to bed.
Must admit we had a similar problem two years ago at Richmond... 3 or more guys playing both games.
Anyone care to comment on Mt.Lilydale and anything notable about their players or the way they play. I have had mixed reports on them....but generally that they are good and only getting better.
They are a quality side, but not quite up to the level of the top three in my opinion. They're not a large side, but fit and with a couple of good goal scorers up front.
Definately beatable Nth Brunny... put your mind to it!

I rated Sth Mornington & maybe Albert Park better than Mt Lilydale. (It was a bit hard to tell against AP - the Cobras were pretty ordinary that day...)

Portman, How did they look like a hard working side if they weren't working hard???
I think you meant to say that they showed patches of looking like a good honest team but really needed some depth as I believe they only had the 1 team last year and they could struggle with injuries? but keep an eye on them as I doubt they are as bad as they were on that particular day & will improve alot when we next play them no doubt..

Ha Ha, just joking with you mate. Id expect Mt Lilydale to be alot better Round 15 at their ground which could be a danger match actually?? Definetly won't be taking them easy that's for sure! The next games for them will see where they are at though I think...
I also think this week Vs North Brunny will be a ripper?

that's how it was at cobra land at the start of the season, now we have the numbers to field two full teams, just gotta get a win to boost confidence of the newer players at the club. it will be a slow process but we will be better for it.

Why would you say that Port-man? We haven't had a blue or a report all season so I'm sure it will be just a good hard contest, between the two sides.
St.Mary's posted some very ordinary comments on their website that is total and utter garbage and thats has got me a bit touchy at the moment - to be honest. I wouldn't have thought club websites - that are linked to the VAFA site -are a place to write defamatory and derogotory comments about another club. I'm glad the writers of our site are above that.

In my opinion I think that's probably because St Mary's love giving it out but don't like it when teams give it back Abba that's all??? But it sounds as though St Mary's were more upset about an incident that happened behind play on saturday which we would all agree is not good...

so true, not good at all when players are getting sniped, but what really got up st mary's was the fact that when our player was sniped off the ball, the umpire saw it and did NOTHING. didnt even warn the offender, or stop play to get the player off the field, not only that, another isntance later in the game happened where a player injured his leg or ankle off the ball also, the umpire stopped the game for the player to hop off the ground. It was almost fair to say that the umpires were losing control of the match (and their consistency) with the crowd really getting into the game.
Absolutely ridiculous comments Owen Who and also disappointed for Coach H weighing in about what he has read - not like you coach to be sucked in to their bantar.
St.Mary's lost the plot about an incident on the weekend that was first of all - within the play - and second of all, was the result of a player ending up concussed due to his head hitting our player's hip in a fair contest. The umpire was in perfect position and saw that there was no foul play and it is despicable of St.Mary's to lead outsiders to believe it any other way.
Nth Brunny had a first game player - who would be lucky to be 60kg - tagging Papa and at every bounce he was targetted to be run through to 'break the tag' - and you didn't hear him - or the rest of us - complaining. Its all part of footy and we are confident our young bloke learnt a lot from running with a player well above his own level. What the young bloke didn't deserve was the abuse he copped all day - when he was merely given a job to execute. Nth Brunny players and spectators would not have acted the same way if 19yr old - 'Squeak' from St.Mary's had been given a similar role.
I thought it was almost incomprehensible that a kid - quite clearly not in a position to commit foul play against a sturdy fella like Adrian is, would be treated all day , by spectators and reserves players, like he was doing anything wrong when St.Mary's seemed compelled to play victim before the ball was bounced.
As suggested throughout this forum , St.Mary's is happy to dish it out - but cry foul at the first sign of resistance from opposition. Once again- for their website and forum comments to attempt lead outsiders to the opinion that we are in any way a dirty, unfair or thuggish team is typically low behaviour from ST.Mary's that we have come to expect from these pathetic two bob Glen Iris Minnows.

perfectly executed ozz....I'd rather be sitting 2 and 6 than playing for and with a bunch of prima donnas and sooky a$$holes like St. Mary's....i mean they got relegated from D3 last year for ****s sake...get over yourself you clowns...
Their coach also needs to perhaps line his jox with fertiliser and attempt to grow some balls...forever sooking about how his players were treated....it's football you big homo....
They should also look at whoever is writing the match reports for their club because its not the best PR for a football side....littering a match report with derogitory and racist remarks is way out of line....

well said OZZA. have looked at there match reviews and they are quite smug and "us against the world". Though as they are intended for a ST. Marys readership, i guess they are serving their purpose.
I feel sometimes as a player for a lower rung club in this division, the self-appointed (sometimes rightfully appointed) elite clubs do get a bit precious sometimes towards treatment towards their players. Its just a vibe I get at games and on this forum.
If a team is highly skilled and drilled (well comparatively speaking, it is D4 anyway) and they come up against a scrapier and not as polished team, there always seems to be this bitching over incidents throughtout the game and pleading to umpires, when in a game between 2 battlers its wouldn't get a run. Under equipped teams are going to attempt to throw everything they can a top side to try and get an advantage. Nothing illegal, but what else would you expect. Just because a team is successful, doesnt mean that they are not going to have to knuckle down and cop it a bit, just like every other team.
I think maybe these elite clubs need to take a step back and remember this is football. Its unfair, dangerous and tough at times. There has not been any thuggery that I have heard of, and this year has been a very good year with the eveness of all teams except for the top 3.
my 2 cents
goodnight, bit tired and emotional :o
Ozza saw the game on Sat and i believe that you guys played the game pretty fair for the most of the game. I was merly commenting on what St Mary's "claim" to have happenned on their website and pointing out the possible reason as to why they may feel the way they obviously do about your club?
I would like to say personally here that although I have never played against Nth Brunny before, but knowing a number of people who have been part of the club, I doubt very much that their reputation is warranted and as in this case with St Mary's their is always 2 sides to the story. I'll make my own judgement when we play you!
As we will be playing them next week, i'm looking forward to a hard "but fair" physical game which i'm sure will be the case!!!!
Good to see the forum firing up though.

Just had a sneak at the report, sorry Ozza where was the Racist remarks in it? Not having a go just clearing it up as it is a strong allegation.
A club's website at the end of the day is for the club, anything that is written on it should be taken with a grain of salt however can see your point.
As i didnt see the game i cant comment on the alledged incident, but if it was that bad im sure it would have been taken further wouldnt it?
Anyway let's forget about that and move onto this week.
2 intersting games.
Box Hill vs Uni - be intersting to see where Box Hill are at now after lossing momentum slightly.
St Marys Vs Sth Morn - intersting to see if Sth Morn are the real deal. Looking at there scores Tim Allen could be the key for them.

This is my first time contributing to this forum, but I feel compelled to given what I witnessed at the St Mary's v Nth Brunny match and the subsequent report on the St Mary's website. I was at the game to watch my son play for Nth Brunny. I have been involved in ammo footy since 1974 as a player, coach and president of clubs in the VAFA - none of which is Nth Brunswick. In fact it was only my second visit to Nth Brunswick. The most disappointing thing I saw on Saturday was the behaviour of the St Mary's coaching bench. The "incidents" they complain about were in normal play, witnessed by the umpires and no action was taken against the players involved - quite correctly in my opinion. Yet the vitriol coming from the bench of St Mary's was appalling and non stop. St Mary's should have a good a hard look at themselves if that is how they want to represent themselves to the VAFA community - rather than publicly and wrongly put another club down.

Lets get back to the footy boys.
Plenty of great games this weekend, as Animal pointed there are 2 of particular interest.
BHN Vs UHS - UHS should come away with a victory but after a 200 Point win and a win over the St Mary's is complacency setting in? Danger game for UHS, look for the game to be more competitive than expected.
ST Mary's Vs Sth Mornington - 2nd Vs 4th both teams in good form should be an absolute cracker. Given that is at Ferndale park I'm leaning towards the Saints but the loss to UHS has destroyed their air of invincibility. The Morners will be confident, even so ST Mary's will have enough to escape with the victory.

Animal - I never alleged racist comments, think that was FunkyGriff - there were inferences to the Bocce club pre-game and post - but we took that in jest - and this was evidenced by our president making a joke about it in his address after the game.

That guy from Old Westbourne (Gavan?) who used to write the D4 report in the VAFA Record a couple of years ago always used to refer to teams playing away to Nth Bruns at the 'Bocce Palace'. I don't think it was meant in a derogatory way at all, political correctness goes a bit too far these days.
Yes Ratfink - and I qualified that this wasn't taken the wrong way.

To the Nth Brunny lads, how is Lacorcia's arm, looked rather serious when he came off shortly after an interesting incident 100m off the ball!!!Would you prefer concussion to a broken arm??
Tips for this week
Albert Park by 119 ova eley park
Mt. Lilydale by 10 goals ova Nth. Brunny
Eltham by 146 ova Syndal
Bulleen to draw with Richmond
St.Marys to beat Sth mornington by 6 goals

G'day Coach, how are we travelling? we will be competitive, had to make 7 changes from last weeks side due to injury but mostly unavailablity, a number of first gamers this week...though sometimes I think that I must have run over a bloody black cat. Looking forward to when everyone is up an about, you'd think that after 20 years in the capper of coaching you get use to it. Do other clubs have the same problem of guys going off surfing, planning weekend away with mates, the list goes on.
Engough of the frustration, good thing is we signed another new player, young future looks good.

well well well, what an awesome evening we had tonight at cobra land. the two lovely ladies sure put a good showin, not bad at all. i think it nearly lasted two hours, considering we paid for hour and a half. toys toys toys, we even had our own male stripper join in on the act (those at cobra land know who i am talking about). we had a very big turnout tonight, lots of past players and some new faces as well. looking forward to the next function to be held at cobra land.
