Just interested in your thoughts after your Ellis is the best posts...;)

The best player in the draft went pick one. The rest was a lottery.

I was only ever lukewarm to Ellis. Seen him play once and he was okay.

I'll put my faith in Derek Hine. If he and our recruiting dept rate Thomas higher than Ellis then I'm happy.

Find the posts where we said that THS. I'm pretty sure we were arguing that it's an even draft.

Personally I wanted Hurn. The Pies wanted Thomas and Pendles. Very good pick ups!

In all seriousness we will wait and see about that statement. They have the potential to but both pretty long ways to go with development. Dale Thomas is a HFF and Ellis a HBF, Collingwood said to like Thomas' attitude and confidence more than Ellis' thats the reason they took him. Personally I dont rate them as numbers 2 and 3, I would have gone Kennedy at 2 or 3, Carlton are the ones laughing at the moment. Pendles is very unproven at football in general, great athletic potential but still unproven. Im not saying Collingwood did bad at the draft table but they are very brave selections. Hope it turns out for them.

I dont rate Ellis as high as others. He's more a poor mans Robert Murphy than a Nick Dal Santo, I would say his body will be identicle to that of Murphy as it wont ever be overly big, unlike Nick who has developed his chest and shoulders and arms. Has some class the kid, but not high on him.

ELLIS ISNT THAT GREAT PEOPLE. Dead set, hawks supporters, dont get too cocky yet. He is a stick, 71 kgs. He is left sided, HE DOESNT HAVE A RIGHT FOOT. He is soft as a butter knife. Hard ball- not really. Watched him in the tac grandfinal, all of his possies were handball receives, hanging out the back ont he half back line, not many hbg's. Far as im concerned, MURPHY WAS/ IS THE BEST>>> BAR NONE!

So look, have him for now, but he will be ona list for 3 years before he does anythign flash.

Had Collingwood taken him tho, you wouldve just said:

ELLIS IS JUST THAT GREAT PEOPLE. Dead set, hawks supporters, you must be spewin. He is a stick, 71 kgs, but a year off will help that. He is left sided, AND MY GOD IT IS A GOOD KICK. He is soft as a butter knife, but every side needs the outside types. Hard ball- not really, can be worked on. Watched him in the tac grandfinal, all of his possies were handball receives, hanging out the back ont he half back line, not many hbg's, but it wasnt one of his best games. He did take a screamer however. Far as im concerned, ELLIS>>>>MURPHY Bar none!

So look, we'll take him, he will be ona list for 3 years and win a brownlow...

Pendlebury averaged 23 possies per game at TAC level. If that's unproven, then so's Ellis! Has tremendous scope for further improvement.

We won't know who the best player in the draft is until their careers have played out, but I personally thought Ellis was the best, and am willing to stick by that.

I don't pretend that I'm a scout though, or that I know more than our footy department. They had a choice between Ellis and Thomas, knowing full well that the other would almost definitely be chosen by Hawthorn at #3, meaning that they knew they could only have one of them. Faced with that, they went for Thomas, and that says a lot to me.

For what it's worth, Colin Wisbey rated Thomas higher than Ellis as well, so it's not like Collingwood is the only club to do that.

Oh, and Nightwolf, johnson 26 really has wanted players other than Ellis for quite a while now, so shut your hole.
