i know you were only jokin around...but I think he will stay at Magpies for another year or two...i think he would be a good fitness coach as he always was our fittest player and hardest worker
if we keep Andrew Russell....i think Lyle would be able to work well with him

PLEASE do not compare Bradyn Lyle to Mark Bickley

Take the Blinkers off for a second and realise what a great player Bickley has been

His courage his second to none and his smothering in the top three or four in the league

On occassion he has bad disposal but he has played a lot of excellent football

Just because you are Port supporter doesn't mean you have to be completely biased.

That pretty much sums up Brayden Lyle in his first three years at Port. Remember the captain in Showdown 1?

Mark Bickley has more durability, but all those things you mention just now, Brayden Lyle is certainly comparable.

Disagree Porthos

Bradyn Lyle played almost exclusively as a link man getting cheap kicks from Josh Francou's hard work

I would not put Lyle in the same bracket as Bickley by a long shot.

What a heap of **** that is. In 1997 & 1998 Josh Francou was an inconsistent half-forward....wasn't until 1999 that he started coming good. For those three years, Brayden Lyle was an automatic inclusion....winning best club man in 1997, regarded as the fittest player at Port.

And you pull that sort of statement out of your arse? Try watching some football sometime. I might as well come out and judge Bickley on his last showdown.

Giving away a 50m penalty by tackling Wanganeen way late after he'd taken a mark....that was a cheap shot. His disposal in that game was shocking too, and he had no impact.

Should I say that he's ****, and just feeds off Goodwin's work? No, because he's been a good player, and importantly, because its a heap of ****. Same as your statement.

Brayden Lyle has similarly been a good player, and your discrediting his entire career is insulting.

Sorry Jars but ill have to disagree here.

Bikley has been a pretty good player for a fairly long time...not a great - his disposal has always been a bit suspect - he always just trys to kick it as far as possible...but no one could ever qurestion his workrate or toughness in the packs etc.
Same with Lyle. Lyle played the game exactly the same as Bickley did...always at the bottom of the packs...are hardest tackler, and hardest worker...a bit suspect disposal but the toughest player at Port Adelaide. Then in 2000 Lyles disposal just went completly downhill and he lost a yard of pace.

You are also wrong about Francou Jars....Francou used to be a fairly inconsistent forward flanker for us and never played in the square really until 1999. David Brown, Breuer, Lyle used to be the three in the middle for us. Francou either started off the forward flank or wing sometimes.

Settle down

You are probably right to an extent but there is no way Lyle was ever Port's hardest working player.

I agree his role changed over time but I don't think he was ever seen around the league as being that though or hard working

There is no way Bickley is not a better player than Lyle.

But all supporters judge their players differently

I certianly was not trying to dicredit Lyles whole career

All you have done here is put down Francou for more than half of his career.

Fracnou is a Magarey medalist - Lyle not even close

He played his best Footy at West Coast.

So who is doing the discrediting??

My only real point is that Bickley must be judged a better player than Lyle. I can't see how that can be disputed.

id have to say your wrong there. He has a reputation on being the hardest worker on the training track...doing more traning than any other player, always striving to do more

All you have done here is put down Francou for more than half of his career.

by saying he was no more than a average forward flanker?? Well he wasnt...then he went into the centre and has been fantastic.

He played his best Footy at West Coast.

What???? Lyle was nothing more than a bench player at West coast...he hardly got a game. He played 26 games in 3 seasons at the club. At port he was a vice captain, an on-field and off-field leader, who won the best team man award in 97, and won the Fos Williams medal in 97 as well. It was only last year where he lost pace and disposal went up the brown river.

I've learned to not take your opinions on some players too seriously Jars. Remember this?
Richardson in for Crows - look out full backs
Richo is in - all you full backs better take out bigger and better insurance policies!!

Yes Lyle is crap now, but he was a good hard player early for us, and as important to us as Bickley to your mob.

Wow, I haven't checked this thread for a while, but it looks like I didn't really have to defend my comment too much. Thanks Port boys for the support.

Who really cares, at least the Power could see the end was near for Lyle. Unlike the Crows who still think players like Bickley and Smart are still valuable to the team. Well done LOSERS.
