Heard something about Sweeney kicking 70 goals.

Hutchinson is supposedly 198ish cm.

Sweeney compared himself to Russell Robertson. A 184-185cm forward with a leap. Couldn't play with the Stingrays because he has a building apprenticeship and so often had to work weekends and long hours.

Stokes is from the NT originally. Forward pocket goal sneak or midfielder if I remember him correctly. Would be about 21 now but it is becoming pretty common for the NT kids to have to go to the SANFL or VFL as a stepping stone to the AFL.

Vince - Wing or small utility that only played about 4 or 5 Seniors games for WWT in the SANFL but had a ripper finals series. Very smooth mover across the ground and good skills

Joel Patfull - Spent two years on Ports rookie list. Bit enigma-like in that he can do the absolute spectacular but is quite inconsistent. A Clint Bizzell type in that he can play at Full Forward or as a 3rd tall defender. Kicked over 100 goals for Norwood in the Under 17s 4 or so years ago, developed as a key forward with Port in his first year...kicked 20+ goals in 13 or so games. His second year on Ports rookie list in 2004 was poor, he couldnt kick a goal up forward and was moved down back. Has a giant leap and can kick a great goal but consistency is an issue.

Matthew Stokes - Gun midfielder/small forward. As Weaver said originates from the NT but has spent three years at WWT. One of the most dynamic and best small men in the SANFL. Size is an issue but he is nippy and can find the ball.

Stokes is a pretty good player, a first choice player for us - unhappy to see him go, but I was surprised that he wasn't drafted last year.

Was just thinking in another thread that with Geelong losing Cam Thurley that Stokes looks a like-for-like replacement. Come in kick some goals and understudy Ablett and Chapman.

JONATHON GILES – selection No. 70

From: Central District
DOB: 8 January 1988
Height: 199cm
Weight: 84kg

“He’s a player we’ve monitored closely for some time. He’s a 199cm ruckman / forward from Central District U17s who won their best-and-fairest this year. We’ve been impressed by his skill level, his marking capacity, and his speed across the ground for his size,” Moylan said.

“He and Minson are 17-year-olds so we had to draft them today (too young for rookie draft) and as the draft developed we felt there was going to be good depth in the pre-season and rookie draft so that was part of our consideration.

I've rated Justin Sweeny highly for some time now, starting several threads about him earlier this year. He is around the 186cm mark and has a very good build for his age. He plays for the Tyabb Yabbies down in the MPNFL Nepean league, which is considered the 3rd division. He kicked 70 plus goals this season in the seniors, which put him top five. This feat is made even better by the fact he missed multiple games with broken ribs through out the season. He also kicked consistent bags of 5 + against grown men, which is a plus. This included a 7 goal haul in a final, if I remember correctly.

Apparently he quit Stingrays and his commitment was questioned. It had nothing to do with his work. This is just a rumor, so I’m not sure if it’s accurate. He also loves the smokes, but that’s not much of an issue, I don’t think. I personally think he is a very good footballer, but an AFL footballer we'll have to see. He can jump over a small house, and has a very strong lead. I would have liked to see him play Peninsula division MPNFL first hand though. Nepean is far away from it in terms of quality. However, 70 goals is a good return in anyone’s language, especially if it’s from a 17 year old.

60 metres no wind...has kicked a goal from inside centre square with the wind...carried through...down at Kingston SE..MAssive winds etc so yeah most of the guys said it would have been close to 70....If Ben Graham could do it theres no saying that a similar built person couldnt

And you're 29 years old. Find me 10 players in the AFL who can consistently kick 60 - 70 meters. Now, I guess you can add to that list a 17 year old with a 80kg frame. He better have some decent power in those legs of his if he can roost it that far, eh?

I really appreciate the posts on your brother hutchumpsum. It's a buzz getting some good inside info on a new player coming to your club.

Can you tell how much footy he missed with his OP this year? Has he played representitve footy for S.A? Was he invited to any draft camps?

Its OK if you dont want to reply.

Thanks.

hutchumpsum,
Has he, or is he going to have an operation for it?
I am getting one for my OP next week, supposedly every send afll player has had it, an adductor tenotomy..??? Resting it didnt work for me this season, still stuffed after rehab and all.
