View Full Version : North Melbourne's Picks
Matt Riggio
Kasey Green
Andrew Swallow
Tim Hutchison
How do you guys rate it? :thumbsu:
Swallow = steal, Riggio was taken too early imo, Green was the obvious one there and never heard of Hutchinson, id say they did the best with what they had.
Green and Riggio are fairly similar as I understand it. Probably hope Green does 3 years in the team and then Riggio takes over. Need to replace Colbert and Archer as that mid-sized supporting defender.
Swallow should go pretty well. The midfield has quietly been losing more players than they have added and needs depth. Swallow should play almost straight away and help in the centre square.
Don't know about Hutchinson but I have gotten into fights with the Roos fans before suggesting that the continual attempts to bring in ruckmen suggests that they are unhappy with McIntosh and Hale. They added Moran last year and now Hutchinson. That is a lot of ruckmen in modern footy particularly if Petrie plays there as well.

Fair call. Add Green also. We always struggle with small/medium forward set up.

Harvey, Grant, Wells, Harris, Trotter, McConnell, Jesse Smith, Firrito, Grima, Urch. Looks ok to me, but can never have enough.

Hale is no.1 now. Moran was a punt at best. Petrie filled a gap. McIntosh will play the majority of footy forward in 2006 apparently, with a mind to replace Rocca. IMO, 2006 will find Hale no.1, Petrie on the fringes and Hamish basically playing tag team with Rocca between North Ballarat and the seniors.
Port won a GF with 4 ruckman on the list, and Brisbane the same. Pretty sure they won a few. Worst case scenario is they don't make it with you but they hold massive currency in the market. Rix just went for 50 something didn't he?

You didn't draft Woewodin and Kasey Green is competent enough which are positives , have NFI about the rest ,apart from Swallow being a prominent name when this draft was discussed..

Of that list, I would only consider the first two and Firrito to be established senior players. Wells and Harris aren't far off it, but both are yet to add consistency to their undoubted talent. Firrito, for all his good qualities, is not going to hurt too many sides.
I imagine Roos supporters would want both Wells and Harris to really stamp their class on proceedings this season, otherwise North is looking surprisingly vulnerable in the midfield.

I think alot of clubs will be in tears not by the damage of wells and harris, two better names, but those of Jesse Smith and McConnell, Jesse Smith was a top 5 pick (fathersoned) in last years draft, consisting of midfielders liekd deledio, tambling etc. Grima is a talent not many have seen because of injury, i think the afl will be very surprised with the roo's midfield in 06'
Agreed. Not reliable yet, will no doubt have games where we are spanked in the middle by the best, but it looks ok to me.
Trotter is the one. No-one knows who he is so it's hard to include the kid, but he is gonna be a special footballer.
