View Full Version : ...we were surprised he was still there...
Dare I asy it "Collingwood":D
The Pies' third selection in powerfully built 17-year-old Danny Stanley looks capable of playing senior football straight away, unlike the club's top two picks, who were chosen for the long term.
Stanley already weighs 89kg and was considered a tough, ball-winning midfielder for the Geelong Falcons in the TAC Cup this year.
"In relation to Danny, we have got to be really mindful of Nathan (Buckley) eventually going out and we needed to bring some strength into the football club."
"Danny has got some enormous power and he is an enormous get for us (at pick 21) and we were surprised he was still there."
Both Thomas and Stanley were thrilled to be picked up by a club with the supporter base and off-field facilities that Collingwood possesses.

Is this a new game where we find a meaningless quote and name a thread after it?

ha ha lol
yeah but stanley is a good pick up for them there shame they were stupid enough to draft thomas at 2 instead of ellis. Even Michael turner said collingwood would be crazy to pass on ellis.
If they weren;t interested in ellis at 2 they should have got either ryder or kennedy, there tall timber is there achillies heel, there always injured.
that's unreal - is that 5 years in a row we've heard that from Collingwood now?

Who is Collingwood's skills coach? He has a lot of work ahead of him...

We just hired Alan Richardson, who has been the skills coach at Western for a few years now.
And how is Collingwood saying this about a kid that was tipped to go to Geelong or to Adelaide at either of their picks that bad?
Even Stanley himself said he was suprised to slip through to #21 considering the interest from Geelong, Adelaide and Essendon at #15, #16, #17 and #19.
This is in no way as bad as Hawthorn saying that they couldn't believe Xavier Ellis fell one spot in the draft, or Kevin Sheedy saying he rated Patrick Ryder at #1 overall.

At least judging by your avatar, you're not pumping up Hurn at all....
Looks like a footy card photo of a circa 1977 Footscray player..

I would feel relieved for a change if just once we ran a draft pick down and put them back in their place , how dare we always praise them up.

Not at all like that really, he was saying that after they all showed such strong interest (especially Adelaide, if the rumours were correct) and then passed him up, he started wondering if he was going to get drafted at all.

Yeah what do you expect them to say. This is just one of them clichés spouted out by half the clubs every draft every year.
Geelong said this about Varcoe, Essendon about Ryder, and I think Higgins as well.

Yep, they all promised to draft him early and then found there were better players on offer. Not only did he think he would be drafted earlier he also thought he would be made captain of the club that drafted him. I look forward to hearing this kid interviewed after a game that Collingwood have lost and him saying that if his teammates had played as well as him then they would have won.

just look at yourself. You're in your 40s, and you're picking on and criticising the comments of a 17 year old.
