Was picked up at 57 by the dogs but in the report on him, everything is exceptionally impressive other than his injury..
for him to have such a serious injury concern and still be drafted - means that hes gotta have sum impressive talent..
195cm - great kick, big leap, very good mark
Sound like a perfect CHF or FF..
IF hiis injury holds up, what do you think his career could be like? and was is worth teh risk of the dogs to take him?

He is a work in progress and while he did some impressive things as a junior he still has a lot of development to go.
He was worth the risk but we should wait and see how he goes during next season.
West played CHB for Queensland in 04 and looked a likely type. He then hurt his knee. Most insist it was 'just' an arthroscope, not a full reco but he certainly missed a lot of football.
His first game back for Redlands reserves he kicked 7 (ish) at FF and the next week he was in Melbourne to play against Oakleigh. He kicked 13 goals in a little over a quarter (against rubbish opponents) and then did his other knee. Had a full reco, missed the Championships and the Draft Camp.
He will need another 12 months after he starts training to get back to where he was (most guys do) and then more time to get up to AFL fitness. So a risky pick.
Football wise he is a big bloke with bucket hands who tends to stay close to goal, lead in the corridor and play in front. Traditional old-style FF who doesn't wander outside the 50 much.
If he gets over his injury he then has to get over the slow death of the old-style full-forward. I'd day it was definately worth taking him with a cheap late-round gamble and it can certainly pay off, but I would be considering him a bonus if he played.

always be a spot for the FF who loiters close to goal if they are good enough.

I've known 'Westy' for since he was about 11 as my younger brother has played a bit with him. He had an arthroscope about 2 years ago after playing in the under 16 nationals in Adelaide. The reserves game that you mentioned I think he kicked 10 (I may be wrong). After the game vs Oakleigh he did have a knee reco.
I had a drink with him today before he heads south midweek (he wasn't drinking) and he said hes ready to go full training his knee is as good as gold.
He did use to ruck in jnr levels and has put a fair bit of muscle on his frame since draft camp.

Worth a punt at pick 57. Obviously would have gone a bit earlier if it wasn't for the knee injury.

Does anyone know when he's expected to recover enough to be able to fully participate in training?

That sounds great.
What were his thoughts on moving to Melbourne and being selected by the Bulldogs, and what other clubs spoke to him before the draft?

He was really happy, hes got some friends and reletives in Melbourne and said they've kept in contact with him a lot and made him feel like he would be welcome before the draft.
He said Brisbane, Hawthorn, Crows were the three other clubs.

Apparently he is very good friends with Tom Williams at the Doggies so that should help.
