Personally I really like the look of him as a center half back. Not slow, strong, good grab, decent skills. Seems to control the tempo.

Wallace has stated he will be our long term CHB and I thought he looked very good there in the last couple games of the season.

However - I read a few of you would like to see him forward.

Ideas?

With Hall doing a solid job at CHB, I wouldn't mind seeing him up forward in 2006, simply because we lack a CHF, we've got a few who could be our CHF in the future, but none are ready yet.

He had a great game up forward against Brisbane couple of years ago.
That was exciting and gave us all an impression he was a born FF.
It seems that he himself had a natural interest in playing up forward so wether Wallace has talked him out of it or not,the fact remains he saw himself as an attacking forward initially.
Having said that, for the same reasons people would like to see him @ CHF,he could play down back.
So whatever really.

he's a natural forward and hall has learnt to be a good chb. Both look capable of becoming very good chf and chb ;)

:) DEFINITELY forward!

wouldnt mind seeing the two (hall and shulz) switch through the positions. i think the idea was to sit shulz at chb for the next few years and then unleash him up forward david neitz style. with hall solid up back who knows what plough will roll out next year. one of the biggest reasons to anticipate 2006 for mine.

no need to put him at chb, we have razor :D

ray's very solid at chb at the moment. that's his role and he's had a few scalps both season just gone and the year before that.

schultz is a forward.
can take a pack mark, attacking mindset-i don't think he could punch all day from behind instead off having a go at a mark. (and yes i have seen him play often as a chb at coburg this year-he does well, but i still say he's a forward.)

He has the ability to mix between the two. Id like to see him play predominately CHB and he can learn the position off the likes of Brown, Tredrea, Pavlich and Riewlodt while still pinch hitting in the foward line before eventually becoming a full time foward who can go into defence if his really needed.

A comment from Greg Miller made on tuesday night was "some players will be returned to their best positions" or something like that and i am sure he was talking about Schulz

I would use him at both CHF & CHB, When we play a high scoring team like St,Kilda , Western Bulldogs Ect we use him at CHB and when we play low scoring teams we use him at CHF.

As long as he dominates on the field I am happy :thumbsu: :)

Yep, I dont care which end he plays.

For mine, he is a Full Forward. The only thing stopping him is Richo..

Alright - I spose the real question is related to the quailty of Ray Hall. To be honest up untill last season I thought the Rayman was poo. However, I watched him closly last year and I reckon Hall really has turned the step. He has abit of a nasty streak about him with those elbows going astray at times

He seems to have finally got abit of muscle on him and can hold his own against most. He is actully a really good highet at 196cm. I beleive he is still quite young at 25ish.

The question beckons - Is Ray Hall good enough to hold down the key role of CHB at Richmond for the next half dozen or so years? Will we ever win a GF (the ultimate goal of course) with the Rayman taking the other sides best forward? Im not sure either way but the likes of Bishop/Wakelin in Ports side which dominated for so long are solid without being special - look in the Hall mold. More so, the likes of Roberts-Thomson, Gaspar, Hunter mixed with a strong/skillful/running backline gets sides to grand finals.

Schultz @ CHF does look nice on paper. Richo will play for alot more years if he can be allowed to play out of the square as a full forward rather than a CHF.

Fingers crossed.

he was never up to be traded. greg miller made that clear when the media bought it up.

We put Hall & Tivendale 'on the table' during Trade week I read in the paper...

iv said it before that Jay will be like Brad Miller from the dees and play at either end when required. He could take a barry hall one day or play chf the next.

Think he'll be more suited up forward. Pretty versatile, but has the necessary skills to make it as a forward. Will be a timely replacement for Richo when the sad day eventually arrives.

Put 'im in the forward line. He's a strong mark, good leap, and (most importantly) straight kick.

madtiger2005
28 Nov 2005, 17:35
why would we play him at chb one week and chf the next? We have Hall who has been learning the role at chb for 2 years and he has become very good and should get better. No need to put Schultz in defence. He needs to stick with one position and learn it and grow confidence. Changing his position will just confuse him and there is no need to rob ourselves of a natural forward ;)

We really need him to step up and play every week and contribute.

Jay Shultz will be playing on the half back flank setting up play in 2006.

as per terry wallace at last nights club 80 function jay will be playing CHB....straight from the horses mouth....he also said he either wanted varcoe or oakley but was more than happy to get JON as he believes his height was the added advantage over varcoe...;)

He did ok against hawthorn

we were playing hawthorn though.
they had no forward line, he was alloud to run free. can't do that against teams with a forward line. he's a backman
