There is no spots left on the list so he can't be. I think he really needs another year on the Rookie List anyway.

Fair enough, is there a limit to the amount of rookies we can have or is it a cost issue?

You can have six minus any veterans you have outside your main list (Neitz?).

Yeh its just Neitz.

So we can have 5, hope we manage to get Davey Jr.

Yze or White must be getting close-ish to being veteran status...

Whats the rule on when you become a veteran?

Isnt it 30? Yze's only 28.

Looking at that list, we are just about ripe. Maybe another year considering Neitz will play on to at least '07 providing he doesn't get seriously injured.
IMO if Neita can go injury free along with Whitey and TJ we can have a big shot at the flag in 2006.

i think i calculated that average age to be 24.
How would this compare to other clubs?
Good to see, injury permitting, that chooker, Aaron, Beamer, Ferg and Riv should crack the 50 game mark.
Wheats should make the 100.

Unfortunately, i can't see Bizz, Ward or Godders adding many more to their tallies.

I think you'll find Melbourne have one of the older lists in the comp. because of the high percentage of players in the 25-28 mark.

On average we have one of the oldest lists in the competition, but the main reason is because we have a lot of 24-28 year olds which boost the average up. The fact that we only have one 30+ year old is a good sign, as it means that this list is likely to stay in tact for another couple of years which would give us a great opportunity to try and win a premiership.

When you look down the list, you will notice how many players that are that don't have huge experience but are filling vital roles in our team. Miller is our centre half forward and has only played 60 games. He is facing his third full season so we can expect him to start maturing soon. Look at the backline and you will be staggered to see that Rivers, Ferguson and Carroll - our three best key defenders, have played a combined total of only 92 games. Nicholson has played more games than those three combined. So they are still very ripe, as individuals and also as a defensive unit. Our on-ball brigade features several 'inside' midfielders - Moloney, McLean and Sylvia (with Jones recently joining the group). Together those three have only played 91 games in total, so there is still heaps of room for development.

2007 should be our realistic target for a flag. We are a chance in 2006, but the likes of Miller, Sylvia, Davey, McLean, Moloney, Rivers, Ferguson, Carroll, PJ, CJ, Jamar, Bate, Jones, Dunn, Bell, etc... will all be more experienced and stronger players, to complement the veterans of Neitz, Yze, White, Green, Bruce, Johnstone, Pickett, Robertson, Brown, McDonald, Bizzell, etc...

The great thing is TJ and Robbo should have another 5 years left in each of them at least as well.

Johnstone and Bruce are our two match winners in the midfield. They are the two players who have the ability to rise to star status. If they have a good season, then I am sure we will be in top 4 calculations.

If Johnno is fit all year i guarantee he will be AA.

with the veterans list, i think the rule is that they have to be at the club for 10 years or be 30+, one or the other.

Just bumping so that the additions to the team list can be seen. Neaves, Bode and Gianfagne have joined Matthew Warnock on the rookie list and will play at Sandringham during 2006 in their attempt to win a coveted third consecutive premiership.

Wow, Yze could be the first Demon player to reach 300 in the clubs history. Only 28 still. Think Neitz is a little old and injury prone to make it.

Yeppa, if these two and Neitz and White keep injury free all year we should be in top 4 calcs.

It still is too early to predict, but i agree Bruce and Jonno have the potential to become the stars we lack if they become more conisistant!

If we play with our usual flair and goal scoring power (IMO we have one of the best forwardlines going around but in terms of players that can kick goals and pure scoring power all over the park I think we are the best in the comp) and add a bit more grunt and accountability we are a chance for the flag.

Too early to call flag contention, but it is nice to dream! :)

But i agree totally with the quote! We need some accountability.
