View Full Version : Woewodin to Tiges?
Heard a rumour today, that we are seriously thinking of picking up Woey in the pre-season draft. Also St.Kilda and Port Adelaide are aswell
I think Coburg would be stoked about this :thumbsu:
I hope not. Ideally for me would be taking one of the kids that didn't get drafted. Next preference would be to pass and take an extra couple of rookies. None of the available recycles IMO are better than either of these options.
We have a lot of kids who aren't really ready or proven.
As things stand we have McGuane, Limbach, Pattison, Hughes, Oakley-Nicholls, Casserley, Polo, Meyer, Roach, Hartigan, Foley, Raines, Thursfield, Jackson, Moore, Tambling.
That is 16 blokes on a list of 38. Basically means 1-2 of them are going to get a game every week regardless of whether they deserve it or not.
There isn't much pressure on our best 22 when you consider that with so many kids Krakouer, Rodan, Pettifer, Tivendale, Chaffey and Knobel are walk-up starts - at least this year.
So getting an older guy makes sense if he is affordable. Woewodin makes some sense because Malthouse wanted him to be accountable which caused tension whereas we would let him freewheel a bit more.

Why top up for the short term though when we are so far from challenging for a flag? IMO it's better to give all these kids we have games now so we can see which ones are worth keeping. It might make us worse in the short term than if we got Woewodin, but does that really matter, given we still have plenty of junk on our list and need at least one more decent cleanout and draft? I can foresee Miller and Wallace taking someone like Woewodin though simply because it will make us a bit better in the short term and I don't think either of these guys can handle the shot to their ego of finishing low down the ladder again so they will sacrifice the long term for short term gains.
I would have thought the pressure on the best 22 comes from the fact we will have a very large number of players coming out of contract and the end of 2006 and the knowledge that the 2006 draft is already spoken of highly. There must be a lot of blokes who have been told they have one year to prove themselves or they are gone.

Just what we need. A guy to come in and teach our younsters how to dye their hair, hit the solarium and dress like fags.

Pretty clear what the plan is for mine .

I agree that Miller & Wallace will go for a recycle, I just don't agree that it's the best way to go. (Actually I can see us passing on the pick as well to save money, given we drafted 3 interstaters which means relocation costs).

You think Deledio needs any lessons?

I disagree aside from chaffey and tivendale. Our list is starting to resemble a decent footy side now.

It's an interesting poser, do we take a fella that can show the way in terms of preparing yourself as an AFL player actign as a role model for many of our impressionable youngsters on the list or roll the dice on "damaged goods" such as Cupido..a telling move beckons

Yes there's those two, who are going to have to do something pretty special this year to stay on. There's also Stafford who is approaching the end of his usefullness. But I'm also talking about the kids that have been around a couple of years now and haven't remotely secured a senior place. Moore, Roach, Raines, Jackson, Limbach, McGuane, they are all on notice this year. It's great to have lots of kids, but we can't expect 100% of them to make it. At some point they are going to have to be playing a lot of senior footy or we are going to have to cut them. We can talk all we like about how bad we think Tivendale is, but if these kids aren't getting selected ahead of him then what does it say about them?

There's a few options there. I would take Woewoeful before I took M Stevens though. Someone posted a while ago that if Mathews and Sheedy couldn't make Cupido a player, what hope does anyone else have? I tend to agree with that.

What number pick do we have in the PSD i too would rather woewodin than M.Stevens, Stuipido, or anyone else in the PSD
Woewodin couldn't be as bad as Tivendale and he could be a handy stop gap player for us much the same as graham just give us a year or 2 to help out or midfield and develope the youngsters , he shouldnt have one but he is a brownlow medalist he can play a little bit what is wrong with having a bit of depth in the club rather then just full of kids.
If they want a younger player take a risk on Caydn Beetham

The only thing I might add is that TW could be a little more contemporary in his thinking than Matthews and sheedy who both began coaching in the 80s

Woewodin could possibly fill the leadership and knowledge gap that has been vacated by Campbell and even Graham.
Whatever you think of Campbell, it was pretty obvious he was still an onfield leader in 05 by the way he would talk to the troops, back em in etc etc.
As long as he comes cheap, I dont really have a problem.

Wowowful is peanut butter - pass
Stevens is a peanut - pass.
None of these blokes are the back pocket player needed and requested by Wallet.
Look to get rookies that have pace and footskills

I am not against getting a useful recycled player al la Graham but we have no time for woey, he is a midfielder type and we have plenty of that, we need kids to step up not aged prima donnas

Gee, I hope not.
You said it. We are trying to go forward here. Getting a player like Woewodin is only going to set us back a few more years. Terry Wallace and Greg Miller and smarter then that so there for we wont get him.
Woewodin go back to Burwood even then you wont get much of a game. U dud.

Only thing Tivendale is good at beating a snail ;) Him and Woewodin in the one side:mad: Both are as bad as each other. I feel i could put on the boots and play better then both of them hehe

Greg Miller indicated on radio this morning that the club is leaning towards a genuine rookie in the PSD rather than recycling another club's trash.

like? i think if they were highly rated, a late pick woulda been used on tem at least

But the difference is that the the rookie in question may not be worth a two year deal at 60 odd k at the time, but becasue they have a chance to mature into a future AFL player they are worth a punt at a rookie contract at 30 odd k a year.

After, say the 25 pick you can throw a blanket over the rest of draft onwards in a year as even as this.

LMAO. I knew that and was simply playing on words by mentioning Burswood in Perth. Hard to type words that display nuance and inflection correctly, eh. :o

Does anyone remember the game Woewy played earlier in the year on Foley when he picked up the 45 touches. He actually spent 95% of time on Tommy Roach who was never in contention for a senior spot. I commented to a friend at the time that Shane wants to get his ass into gear as the game is passing him by. He would want to be on less money than Techno for us to take him. As for preparation, well the Dees weren't too impressed; I think Malthouse was of a similar mindset. Not worth it for us - develop the kids.

Oh how good that was lol. Would of been nice to see it live though. If anyone in here is a true Richmond fan and they want Woewodin well we say good bye to you. Woewodin is weak and there are better players out there then this dud. He might of won the brownlow however to this day i would say he was the only one that has won it within the last 10years that was very lucky.
we would be better off being a player short than having someone like woewodin on the list

:) ANY credibility the Brownlow had went out the window when the likes of Libba and Scotty Wynd won them. And Dipper!!!
