It seems as though we are almost hellbent on throwing away some draft picks. I still think if he got his mind right for footy that he would be useful and worthwhile picking up but i dont think he is anywhere keen to the level required.

Dont read too much into it. The article is full of Sheedy quotes but it reads a lot differently to what came out in the interview. Sheeds was asked about Mecuri and he said persoanly he would look at him but they are keeping their options open. It sounded rather like Sheeds may have some interest but the club wasnt so hot on the idea. Also during the interview Sheedy mentioned several times that they were likely to take the best young player and Heffernan if Campo wasnt available;)

For god sakes Mercs just get on with the next stage of your life mate.

This is just silly sheedy propaganda.

It's funny how this story won't go away.

If we don't get a combo of Heff and Campo then i don't think any recycled player (except Cupido) would be worth picking. So if we're going to pick one i'd be happier with Mercs than Greene or Woewodin or Armstrong or Guerra etc.

A rookie i wouldn't mind, and would be a better long term bet obviously.

I get the impression Sheeds is trying to set us up to steal a premiership in Hird's last year while continuing rebuilding. Only possible reason for Mercs, and Campo to a lesser extent.

Is mercuri even in the country at the moment. heard he was overseas.

If the pies take campo, we will take heff, and

any chance of redrafting one of our discards, cupido or p thomas

Exactly, he's past it, both mentally and physically.
He will not be able to keep up with the rigours of this game, as shown by his last season in the AFL, which from memory was 2003.

Loved watching him play in his day.
A true bomber great, but it would a waste of a draft pick:thumbsd:

Sheedy in a separate article on the rule changes siad it would be harsh on 28 year old midfielder who is struggling - and then he mentions getting a 31 year old who has not played for a year. Right.

Mercuri would be run off his feet with the new rules.

A mercedes benz at his best, a gemini in his current state.

No to Armstrong, no to Greene. Get Heff, and either Blumfield, Thomas or Cupido (assuming Cupes would want to play with us again, if not then no to him as well).

I want guys who try, and who can compete at the top level, not toilers who are out of their depth at AFL level.

Even I remember 2004 was his last year.

Mercuri was pretty average in his last 2-3 seasons, I think it was partly because of his brother's suicide? Who knows, with a year out of the game he would be pretty fresh and might surprise a few people. It'd be better picking him up than a hack like Greene I guess. I think Essendon should get Paul Thomas back though, not a bad player.

I would say a soccer goal is more excitin then an AFL goal because they are less often however I am not saying that I am not excited watching Lovett on the run etc

I completely agree, and would also add that in footy, in the dying stages of a close encounter - any goal for me, is more exciting than a soccer goal.
Thanks for answering my question. :)
