At the moment is this man the best gloveman in the world?
I know Dhoni looks good with the bat, but can he cut it as a keeper?
I haven't seen him yet so i'm not Tony Shaw.

Hes pretty good, took a couple of blinders yesterday, not a very good batsman though.
Ramden looked good except for that drop of Gilly.
He is the best techniqly.
But his batting is not up to it.

You lot have no idea,
He takes a leg sided one handed catch and all of a sudden the man is the greatest gloveman in the world.
Last match he missed a soda of a stumping, but that doesn't matter, he took a one handed catch.
This is typical Big Footy.
Knee Jerk Central.

Idiot replys.
His glovework is rated very highly.
For me it would be Sangakarra but it is hard to say Gilly isn't the best after seeing him stump someone standing up to McGraths bowling :|

THing is, most of you have only seen him in a couple of games, or on spectacular highlights on TV.
Hardly a basis for a rating a gloveman

He might be the best keeper in a Test team at the moment, not sure about the world. The way cricket is going the best keepers in the world are likely not to make it into their country's team as they can't bat as well as some other inferior keeper. Not saying it's wrong, because the batting can be very helpful, just saying that cricket is going that way.

Would be hard pressed to find a better gloveman than Chris Read going round, rate him highly.

Fine take the sissy route. Label every single player "promising" and you will never be wrong.

Gilchrist
Sangakarra
If I were picking a team from all the test cricket playing countries in the world, my keeper would be Gilchrist. I wouldnt even have to think about it.
So obviously, I rate him the best keeper in the world. By a mile.

Why isnt he in the poms team then they wont lose anything if they drop jones has nothing to offer with the bat anyway
Hes pretty good, took a couple of blinders yesterday, not a very good batsman though.
Ramden looked good except for that drop of Gilly.
That batsman you think is no good has just made a century.

Fletcher rates Jones as a batsman and that was that. Marshie told him he was stupid. Read can bat a bit - will knock up a fifty every now and then - but they think that Jones is the next christ (Or Gilchrist). Feel sorry for Read who did nothing wrong in terms of glovework...
Sangakarra is good with the gloves, and Boucher must be aroundabouts too.

Well he was not very good with the bat, but one innings doesnt make a player, look at Ian Bell.

He made another century last night. That's his 4th for the year [2 in Tests,2 in ODIs]

How is he not a good batsman? He put on a 350 run stand with Youhana and just made 101 against England in a ODI??

Lets see if he can make hundreds AWAY from home, rather than making them on flat, home pitches. That is why Sangakara and Gilly are better. They make runs all around the world CONSISTENTLY!

and refresh my memory what did gilly average in his 3 previous odi's before that. i tell you what i'll save you the hassle and tell you. he averaged 60 at a strike rate of 113.92 and man of the series with a highest score of 103. i think you forgot to tell us about that.
we'll see if pakistan stay true to themselves and shuffle the keepers spot around like they have the last 20 years.

Note I said at this present time. On current form Akmal whips up Gilchrist and that's all I was implying. He also scored 154 in a test not long ago :o
not a very good batsman though.
Do you still think he's not a good batsman ?
He scored another century today. That's about his 4th in 2 months [Tests & ODI's].
Has always been good since he scored a good 100 in Australia.
Another century to Akmal.
That's about 5 in 3 months [Tests/ODI]

Credit due where credit is deserved . As I post in the other Akmal thread , his batting has increased phenomenally in the past 2-3 years under the guidance of players like Moin Khan .
Im sorry to see him play so well against India , but the century he scored today equals the knock Dhoni played the other day , both came under pressure and if anything Kamran's was even more superb .
Best wicket keeper in the World ? No chance , but Sangakarra/Akmal/Dhoni will all be tremendous keepers in the years to come ...

funny read, where is Kamran at now?
in about the same position as the unpromising Katich

His career went down the crapper after his dodgy work in the Sydney Test. Now his brothers have overtaken him.
