When are the Pigeons going to get rolled?
They have been in a position to lose their last three, but have got out of jail.
Either they are a good side and can win when they are not playing well or they are cherry ripe for a loss.
Maybe this week against Wang who were sensational in pumping Wodonga.

That was easily the worst game Yarra has put to together however i wouldn't imagine North Albury would have been to pleased with there performance, overall it was a very scrappy game.

What about Mark Tyrell Urple?:confused:Tyrell has played all but a couple of games with yarra in the 2's due to not getting a run with his vfl side. I think he will stick it out this year and weigh up his options at the end of the year.

Whoever did the Border Mail votes for the Albury/Raiders game on the weekeend was obviously not at the same game as I was or he was wearing yellow and black blinkers. Fowler got one vote for kicking six goals of which one was from a mark that bounced at least a foot in front of him, another from a mark in the !st Qtr after pushing his opponent in the back ( I know contentious rule) and another from a mark whilst a team mate facing front on to Fowlers opponent blocking his attack on the contest. Apart from that there was no way he was in the best 3 on the ground.

I would think that 6 goals (5 in second half) on a wet sort of day when the result was in the ballance at half time would get a forward close to the votes. I agree the Border have favourites and Fowler is certainly one of them, but if he doesn't kick 6 the Raiders could win, making his effort fairly influential.

Dont know what you are on about raidrboy. Fowler was in the votes for sure. If he kicked accurately he woulda had 10. But if you are so sure that he shouldnt be who would you give them to instead?

When a team wins by 6 or 7 goals there is a fair chance the winning team are going to get most of the votes. The fact is he didn't kick 10 goals and if the rules had been interpreted correctly he would have only had 3,then would the person giving the votes have included him.? I thought Mitch Carroll was solid all day and if a Raider was going to get a vote probably Mossop or Doolan. And just to clear the air this is not an attempt to bag Matt Fowler who is a nice bloke and a damn good footballer.

I thought the votes were okay. I thought Luke Carroll could even have pinched a vote, he was great down back when the Tigers were under the pump, and then instramental when going into the middle after half-time, but when you've got a forward who has kicked 3 more than the next best on his team and 4 more than any opposing forward, it's obvious he was the dominant forward on the ground. He did miss a couple of sitters and should have had at least 8. Everyone is going to view it differently on how he came about getting the ball, personally, I thought he was on the end of some pretty good delivery, which hasn't always been the case this season.

Raiders had some good players pushing for votes, but the likes of Way, Doolan and Kahlfeldt who had plenty of it in the first half, were barely sighted after the main break. Mossop I thought was a good contributor, but the fact that he didn't hurt Albury on the scoreboard lessens his impact.

i think thats a bit of a ridiculous comment. looking at both squads, sure yarra are better on paper, its that old cliche' anything can happen on the day, surely a team thats beaten 4th (wod on the wend) by 40 points and when they kicked 20 behinds themselves, and a team that beat 3rd (nth albury) fairly comfortably with 17 players will have a some sort of chance beating the undefeated yarra.
i dono what everyone elses thoughts are? should be a great game, especially in the midfield!!

Hi all,
This is my 1st post on here, i only just discovered that there was a forum on the mighty ovens and murray footy league. I pay very close attention to the league as i played over 150 games (majority reserves) its great to keep up to date with how the boys are doing.

I've just got one question, maybe its already been asked so bear with me.
Why is there only 1 thread with over 140 pages, most forums i get on post individual threads with their own topic, this way the discussion stays on topic. There may be a legitimate reason, just interested.

Not much has been spoken about Wang Rovers.
They started poorly, but has bounced back to win 3 in a row,can they make the finals?
Their 3 wins have been over Myrtleford,Lavington & yesterday beat 3rd placed North Albury by nearly 10 goals at North Albury!
I went to yesterday's game and the performance of Peter Cristoforo was brilliant,he only kicked 3 but was pivital in the victory.
He doesnt seem to be kicking the bags like last year he is playing more up the field and on the ball, where he has injected some experiance and hardness and ability to win a contested ball in that middle and up the ground, something Rovers have lacked.

Jess Silver has been a great pick up and kicked a few himself - this is where the Rovers have improved, adding another goalkicker to that one pronged forward line of last year.not to mention Taylor,Raven and Andy Hill.
The rovers 3rd quarter was the game breaker, keeping North Albury scorless while kicking 5 themsleves.

Anyone think they are better than the first few months suggested?

Of course Rovers are better than they were early.
They have learnt how to kick goals and not points. They cost themselves a couple of games early in the season by some poor kicking.
The OM is an extremely tight competition as the ladder suggests and teams have to be close to their best every week or they stand the chance of being beaten.
Take Wang for example.
Three rounds ago they lost to Albury who were out of the five and last Sat they rolled the reigning premiers and flag favourites by nearly 10 goals.
Albury is now in the five.
Wang Rovers have won three in a row against Myrtleford, Lavington and North Albury.
The last two are big scalps, but Lavington was without two of their best five players, McKimmie and Pendergast, and North Albury was without Hodgson and Hilton, two of their best 10 players.
Rovers are pretty much at full strength, but they don't do the draw and they have finally struck a bit of form which was deserting them early.
They play Yarrawonga on the rebound this week.
Will be a good test for the Hawks.

I went to Lavi v Albury on Sunday and was surprised to see Tim Sanson struggling to even mark the footy. I notice he was wearing a back brace, is this injury the reason he can't get near it, or is it time someone tapped him on the shoulder. A shame to see such a great player playing like that.

Brent is doing a real good job with the ressies who I think are 3rd the ladder at present. He has played one senior game this year and with the exception of last weekend has been playing in the ressies. He has an astute footy brain and can still plays good football.

Why did Steak Seymour brush the blokes from OAKFM after their loss yesterday?
I thought he was better than that.
Those blokes do a great job promoting footy and the interviews after the game are an excellent part of the coverage.
I doubt Bobby Craig ever brushed them after a loss.

Right here mate:) What would you like me to say? The Rovers are playing good footy atm and have shown with their win over Yarra that they aren't to be taken lightly. Won't say much else as I shot myself in the foot when I built the Hawks up pre season only for them to lose their first six or so, except that its good to see Matty Brown playing good footy in the ones. Has always had the potential to be a great player but has really taken the next step this year. One for opposition teams to watch out for!

Steak is a good bloke and usually has a lot of time for people. It was probably one of those situations where he wasn't in the mood to be discussing the loss until he had properly spoken to his players about it. As great a job as the OAKFM blokes do, they probably just caught Steak at a bad time. I'm sure Johnny McNamara would have been more than glad to do extra interview time in Steak's place! :)

It goes with the territory of being a coach, Darc.
He has fronted after wins all year and he fronted last week after the loss to the Magpies so why didn't he front on Sunday?
Let's hope he realises the error of his ways, apologies next time to the OAK boys when they cover a Yarra game because the last thing he needs is the media off side when they are going through a rough trot.

They certainly did get a touch-up. The Tigers 1s had some injuries to cover, and when you take a couple of the better players out of the 2s to cover them, they looked a bit ordinary, very ordinary in fact. On the positive side, they also played a couple of 3rds players, who went pretty well. Darcy Judd (16 years old) is certainly one who will take the step up to senior level in his stride over the next season or so.

Whether things didn't go too well, or they were unbelievably great, it doesn't make a difference - a two to five minute chat is part of the job.
From my experience the standard procedure is OAKFM, like all radio stations and media, do the losing coaches second to give them that extra bit of time to cool down, gather their thoughts and give their opinion on what transpired.
I was listening in via the net and I heard John McNamara from the Rovers interviewed and I can only assume OAKFM went into the Yarrawonga rooms to find Steak soon after.
For him to decline the interview any lockout must have been over.
Unfortunately talking to the media is part and parcel of the job, win or lose.
Supporters, sponsors and people who follow the OM listening in want to know what the coach thinks, particularly the coach of the reigning premiers who has been very co-operative to date.
By not talking only adds to any perception he might be feeling the pinch a bit after a couple of losses.
One of the great strengths of the OM is its first class media coverage and they should be respected whether clubs, coaches, supporters don't always agree with what they say, write or whatever as long as they are balanced and fair, which I reckon they are.
But, it is hard to get balance when you can only talk to one party, though.
Steak is not entitled to any special treatment just because his side has dropped a couple of games.
It goes with the territory and it's not a hard job.

I am guessing you are getting your best from the paper which is fine my apologies! They differ a bit as far as order goes!

No worries. I do receive my best players from The Border Mail.
I used the website best last year and received a lot of criticism about the supposed accuracy of them. Mainly due to the rankings of Anthony Tucci and Calan McClay in the top 10 (nothing against these guys), and moreso due to Luke Carroll being outside the top 100.
