Is anyone else sick of seeing Hodgson in the media?F**K if a magpie landed on the fence at the club he coaches he would have it on TV or in the paper.Yes the old chestnut that any publicity is good publicity....but is the high turn over of players he looses each year related to the mans obvious ego?He is like Jeff Hook-in every photo.:thumbsd::thumbsd:

Hodgson is building 1 record that seems to escape much media scrutiny - he has coached the grand final loser in each of the last 3 years, and played in the 1 before that. On the losing side in 4 consecutive grand finals - surely that is some sort of league record??
I am not sure of the name of the 3rd sanfl player to sign with wang. All i've heard is that he'd moved to town and trained with the rovers, but has apparently then gone and signed with wang.
is there any confirmation on yarra's comings and goings for 2008?

I'll bet the Hopper's sponsors don't care how many times he gets them in the paper.
It will get them back there if they think they get good service.
Granted, they might get tired of being associated with them if they are unsuccessful, but they will still be in the public eye regardless.

Can anyone tell me if Mark Lambertini is still playing in the area?
Last I heard of Mark Lambertini he was playing for Lower Plenty in Northern F.L. (formerly the Diamond Valley League) but that was several seasons back.

Never stated he was unsuccesful-you would rather be in Grand Finals and loose them than not be in them at all.Just reckon he doesnt have to have his head in the paper each time they sign a kid from Osborne,or Henty or Thurgoona.Mark my words-as good as those kids may end up;they won't be the players he is a)telling them they will be and b)expecting them to replace what has gone.

Basically I agree - I was inferring that the inclusion of the cattle in the pictures aren't the purpose of the exercise - it's more to get the sponsor(s) out there.

Hello all,
This is my first posting having recently discovered this stream.
I am an ex-Alburian (the city, not the FC) and up until I left 2 years ago, had an active interest in the O&M.
From the western side of the border I can inform you of a few things:-
* I can confirm (although It may not need confirming) that Joel Mackie is with Woodville/West Torrens. I saw him myself in the supermarket (with Woodville player Mark McKenzie).
* Brad Murray will be staying at Port Adelaide. I understand (second hand info) that he signed at least a two year contract...Last year
* Simon McCormack (Ex North Albury, Ex Wodonga) has been made West Adelaide vice-captain where he will play alongside captain Nathan Brown (Ex Melbourne) and Ben Hollands (Ex North Albury, Ex Wodonga). Simon won a lot of respect in a poor team this year. No wonder they made him a leader in what should be a vastly improved team next year.
Just in case you lot didn't know

We all knew those things anyway.Who do you play with overthere and where did you play over here.Ive got some rello's in Adelaide and get over a couple of times a year the standard aint too bad in the SANFL.Cheers:thumbsu:

North matched the job and $700 a game....so Raiders went to $1000 a game plus $2000 sign on.
I can tell you for fact, (from high ranking North Admin) that Prior was on $275 a game at north last year. so if thay have indeed up it to $1000 a game, then raiders and got shafted.

Juddy, why does everyone think all the O+M clubs pay out a fortune for players. From what I was told Adam was on $275 a game. Remember he was a NA boy through and through until this year, just like his old man and thats all he wanted to do, play for North. Yes he left and will now be paid better than most but some how I dont think the $ was the main reason! Maybe he didnt see eye to eye with a certain someone?

hi there my name is tom dickson and i currently live in melbourne but am looking for a change. i started my career at the wodonga raiders in the o&m where i built my reputation as a budding young star. i then moved on to donvale where i have spent the last couple of seasons and only a cruel run with injuries have cost me winning best and fairests. i am a strongly built rover that is hard at the footy and i can also push forwards to kick goals. i have no loyalties to any clubs and money speaks all languages to me so i'd be after a house, good job, and around $1000 a game. please send me a message because i am willing to talk further about contractual issues. look forward to hearing from you.

Tom when are you going to stop this fantasy thing you have about your exceptional talent and tell these people that you are really no where near being a $1000 a game player. You would be worth at least $1500 a game plus some kind of incentive payment written into your contract. And let Donvale know where you left their car so they can retrieve it. :D

Surely you have all heard this -
Jayden KOTZA (Not sure on spelling) looking like returning to O & M. Thats fair enough because I've seen him play and he is definately good enough but the where is the question. Raiders? North? Wang? Albury? All interested.
You would think Albury but I believe some issues still need to be sorted out there which leaves the Raiders as maybe not a front runner but definately right in the mix. Be interesting to see what happens.

Raiders unlike most o & m clubs, are only training 2 times a week. So knowing his dislike for hard work, i would think they would have to be in the mix.

I think he will have to stay at Culcairn. He was involved in the recruiting for Culcairn (saw him in a few meetings), if he now leaves I would think the new recruits would feel a little deceived.

Can confirm Kotzour has signed to Raiders, Adam Prior apparently delighted coz he'l now have someone to pass the ball to in between from kicking out at fullback and kicking the goals at the other end, only problem is that he'l have to do Kotzour's running for him aswell :thumbsu:

Fair Point AP, if he was in meetings and helping sign blokes and then takes off you would be very disappointed as a new recruit and as a club I suppose. I believe a couple they have signed were or are mates of his, wonder what will happen there?
I see someone said he's signed with Raiders, if so the Tigers will be spewing even more than when he left them last year I'd be thinking. Thing is in my opinion and very limited knowledge if he was fit he'd be a great player.

Back to my post a few weeks back, wang magpies haven't signed a 3rd sanfl player, he is actually from the wafl. Kirvans or something similar i think is the surname. I hear that he relocated to the north east for work, trained with rovers and then much to their displeasure signed with the magpies. Wang's melbourne based contingent are reportedly flying in pre season training with the northern bullants too.

The bloke in question trained with rovers, showed little promise, and then took off to maggies when offered 250-300 a game. The rover's coach apparently rang the bloke's old president at his last club, asked him what sort of a player he was, and was told that he would be a handy seconds player at most. In turn the hawks wouldnt offer him what he was looking for whereas the pies would. Smells like another van shaik affair, maggies chasing and paying someone they think is decent whereas he will turn out to be a fair spud. *Interesting Rumour* - apparently hooper and smith who have recently signed with the pies have combined salaries of $50,000 this year. in comparison, clubs like rovers, corowa, and raiders pay about 150k per year for all their players, support staff and coaches. 2 players paid nearly a 3rd of some other clubs entire payments!!!!!! anyone hear otherwise?

I like how when a team has a bit of sucess people start throwing round stupid $ figures that players are getting.
Ryan trained with the Rovers and didn't say a bad word about them and can promise you he didn't ask for money nor is he getting more than base at the Magpies. He is also one of the better blokes you'd meet and will be a great addition to the pies no matter what he plays 2's or seniors. Rovers missed out as it's not always about football ability. No one is talking him up at Wang so we'll see how he goes.
If the Rovers coach was any kind of bloke or coach he probably shouldn't be telling people he's "a seconds player at best". Then sitting scratching his red head wondering why he can't attract people like Ryan when stuff like this gets back to him.

you are telling me raiders spent 150k on everything last year or will this year. if it was last year they had some blokes getting triple what they deserved. i reckon all the dollars quoted on bigfooty should be divided by 2 at least to give a more realistic figure... sometimes divided by 10!
Ok to try to spark this thread lets guess how much each club will spend in 2008, how much the coach gets, how much the highest paid player is on... if you want to name that player up to you.
I'll have a think bout it and post again sometime soon.

Well said RBR. If raiders spent 150k last year they will spend 200k this year with the addition of Prior.
No doubt in the world that Lavy spend the most out of every club. I reckon the panthers will spend between 250 and 300k this year on players. Coach probably on half that figure. highest paid player....I think the panthers use a communist type system when it comes to player payments so id say everyone on their list is on 1k a game. :thumbsu:
Yep spot on Raffy payments are through the roof these days. Myrtleford are looking to break the mighty million this year, I would have thought pretty standard for most other clubs in the O&M but a big feat for such a small town.
They have also spent close to $100k on their new strength & conditioning coach Gerad Garoni - comes from the old school and a real motivator. Saints in 08.

I have heard similar to you glitter. Apparently a top bloke who will be on pretty much base payments. And who decided the culture at wang was more for him. I also recall a few rovers connections bad mouthing leigh symons when he turned his back on them a few years ago to head to the magpies. Gee they were spot on, what a failure he's turned out to be for wang - assistant coach and very important cog in a premiership side.
as for the dollars being spent - who cares, if a club can afford it go for it. I don't see a bracket containing the amount spent on players next to any listing of recent O&M premiers.

Garoni is a strategical genius who's research into opposition teams is 2nd to none what an asset he will be. If he does happen to pull on the boots he could also be very handy across the half backlinewith his ultra intelligent style of play.
I'm with the Epping football club in the NFL and we have been desparately trying to secure his services for a few years now.

you are telling me raiders spent 150k on everything last year or will this year. if it was last year they had some blokes getting triple what they deserved. i reckon all the dollars quoted on bigfooty should be divided by 2 at least to give a more realistic figure... sometimes divided by 10!
Ok to try to spark this thread lets guess how much each club will spend in 2008, how much the coach gets, how much the highest paid player is on... if you want to name that player up to you.
I'll have a think bout it and post again sometime soon.
Guessing will be all it is as no club is going to make public the amount of money that a player or club is spending unless someone from the inner sanctum of that club is speaking out of turn.

Wow numbers have gone up amazingly over the years. Know from experience that Corowa never paid over 100k in match payments until Tossoll turned up. 2000 flag (long time ago now i realise) cost about 130 (but what a team). 2003 flag cost less than this. Think they spent about 110 last year and the club lost 20K for teh year. Simply haven't got the resources to spend any more than this or they will be out the door. Not sure how Yarra and Myrt get the kanga they do without annoying s..t out of everyone in town. hard to believe some of the figures that are being quoted on here. Rovers would be in a similar boat to Corowa - have no idea of other clubs resources.

I believe most of the local Myrt players play for base so they can spend extra dollars on getting recruits to top up the locals. The years myrt spend at the bottom of the ladder save them a fair amount of coin so they can then afford to get quality recruits. I am pretty sure most other clubs would be like this.
After the 2004 GF which was won by wodonga I heard that they spent around the 400k mark. Any truth???

yarra have 2 extremely wealthy backers in particular. Money never has been and never will be an issue at yarra while they remain involved.

I reckon I m pretty close to the mark Knives. I know for a fact that Dylan Arnold is on close to 50K - He is handy but 50k??
Surely Arnold couldn't be on that money heard he plays for nothing so they can fit Fitzpatrick and Beams in the salary cap

Obviously a petty little Rovers fan posted this.
Enjoy hearing where you plucked that $50K for the new Melborne blokes.
I hear an *Interesting Rumour* that the new ruckman (can't remember his name) is on $90,000 this year..
Nope not a rovers fan at all, actually a yarra bloke myself. happen to know a fair bit of the happenings at the hawks though. to answer a few of your questions......
1. never questioned whether kervin was a good bloke or his ability etc etc
2. 50k includes the pies having to pay off the remaining 2 years on smiths contract with the side he played for in the sanfl plus his match payments for the year, and then in addition is hooper's payments. in fact it would probably nearly be more than 50k
3. new rovers ruckman is jake platfuss, a 19-20 year old from finley in the murray league. whilst he is a good player, you'd be a fool to believe he would be on that much. and anyway, i doubt the rovers could afford to pay a player anywhere near 90k
4. from what i hear and have read, macnamara was not interested in luring players to the club as he believed he had a good core of home grown players and a few melb boys already. the addition of local boy karl norman was the icing on the cake for a team that really should have gone further into sept last year

Add interest in what way?Every year we hear the same crap about this blokes on this and this blokes on that.If you want to add interest maybe give us some info on whos playing where and who you think might be the better teams in 2008.Every club has well payed players and some clubs have more money than others that is just part and parcel of footy these days!
I'd say well done to that red headed coach from the rovers for doing his homework on a potential recruit:thumbsu: Like all GOOD coaches they should know the quality of the player and their character before throwing the dollars at them. By the way he must be doing something right there with minimal players leaving and attracting some quality players back to the club.

Ha ha just cos u put numbers in front of your points doesnt make them fact....
smith was only on a 2yr contract and fulfilled one of his yr on the contract so there was no 2yrs left to be paid, also if a person is moving from VFL, SANFL, WAFL to a lower competition there is no transfer fee or having to pay out players contract if its not a mid season transfer (ie Mcmillian to yarra 2 yrs ago cost around 5-10k), if the player wishes to leave he can simply go...and id think ud be pretty hard pressed to find anyone on 50k per yr in the OM.
My understanding is big fella if u sign a contract for 2 years then you're committed to that club. You cant bail out if your not happy because you're not getting a game or the club is not successful, so there for a club is entitled to a transfer fee especially if money has been paid up front or for the inconvenience placed on that club ie accomm., work ect.

yes well done to the coach. Why would you want a top bloke who is prepared to play for base payments around your club??? The reason he didn't sign for rovers had nothing to do with money and everything to do with what he was told about the respective clubs by 3rd parties. Rovers have indeed done well to attract norman back, but will surely shudder at the sight of jeremy o'brien racking up possessions in a yarra jumper.

Cmon you guys Gerard wouldnt get out of bed for that sort of Money.

I think you will find he would JB! Can anyone fill me in on what Gerads exact role at the club is as i would love to know what sort of impact he is having on the players and if he is planning a comeback? I think he will need a new jumper as last years may be a little burnt!

He is first and foremost Myrtlefords Strength and Conditioning coach - but also doubles as a goal setter and youth mentor for the Alpine Eagles U'19's.
Hard to beleive he finds time considering his sports management company GG Mangement is booming - I beleive he was key player in the Judd to Carlton trade.

Thats great it will be interesting to see how many of the Alpine eagles follow in his footsteps!I wonder if the thirds coach has had to give some of his 50K in order to attract the GG management group to McNamara reserve?

Now now boys, if your going to carry on like this take yourself down to the pub and get yourself into a biff, dont go hiding behind this forum. As good a player that Shiry is there's no possible way Wodonga can afford to pay any one player that amount of money ( 60k p/y ) Most clubs football budget would be between 100k - 150k, except 2 teams and ones not Wodonga. Does anyone know the reason McMillan has taken of to Cairns or is anyone about to speculate? Massive, massive loss!
