very good Thurgood, i concur. Further to that , Winmar 07 has been owned several times before on this thread, he has a propensity to shoot from the hip with little facts or even knowledge to base his opinions on.

The only problem i have with Brad's article was that he didn't stick with his original opinion about the Rovers. People who are silly enough to refuse to speak to the media, on the basis of whether they win or lose, are doing themselves or their club no favours, particularly in regards to sponsors, marketing etc etc. The more media savvy the spokesman, the better off his/her club is. Have a look at how P Tossol massages the media to his, & therefore his clubs, advantage.

I tend to agree with what your saying if you refuse to speak to media then your open to a baking.. But instead of baking him in a proper journalist way to get personal and single out the coach is not the right way to do it, shows the guy is inexperienced and obviously is just looking to make a headline similar to how some guys are BOG every week and don't even play well.. Look all i am stating is that the journalism is very poor and not only that he has no idea about the game/ hence poor reading.

I am just your average bloke who loves his footy and o and m the best thing you mentioned is P Tossol how come you didn't mention the two best midfielders in the comp RAINES RYAN GO ROOS!!!!!!:thumbsu: CARPENTER for that matter and AMBROSE CLARKE Go rooers!!!!!:thumbsu::thumbsu:

For my part I think Brad McGrath generally writes very good articles, however his attack on J Mac seemed to me to be a little self indulgent and immature. His follow up article on Tuesday did his credibility no favours, however I'm not goin to write the bloke off completely over the whole thing because everyone makes mistakes and people in the media are no different, e.g. Sam Newman.

From what I have gathered John and Brad have buried the hatchet and I'm sure both will have learnt from the experience.

On to this w.e's local derby, you would have to rate Rovers a strong chance to come away with the points after their performance on at the Doggie Den and the pies notable absentee list. Game will be won in the midfield and up forward for the Hawks. My tip is the Rovers by 20.

Myrtleford are going so bad because after finishing runner up two years in a row all the players decided to go elsewhere. Don't know where all the "talented locals" are now, because they aren't competitive at any level other than under 16s. They can't attract recruits because there is no longer any industry in the town to provide employment. The future is looking pretty bleak for Saints fans, and they will probably have to consider stepping down to the Ovens and King.

Myrtleford are just like any club you ride the highs and the lows. And their season has just got a little bleaker with Ben Beames saying his season is all but over and he thinks he might have to have further surgery on his knee.

the derby promises to be a beauty yet again but the last few times it has failed to deliver... both teams will be without key players maggies obviously hampered more with the tribunal hearings... i think the boys in brown and gold would be pretty disappointed if they lost this one what are your thoughts on that darc? and peanut for that matter no doubt you will pipe up having smelt the word 'maggies' floating around?

i'll just make some adjustments to the match ups

N Hill v Smith

Silver v Cosgriff/Trenfield/Cairns (depending on what form Silvers in)

Cristoforo v Steer

J Allan v Higgs

i think your right the game will be decided based on what the rovers bring to the table this time... if they play as well as they did across the board last week, you might see a similar result to the corowa v maggies game...

for once i think the midfield of rovers is finally up and firing and should account for Smith Lord Higgs etc and if the rovers forwards can get on top early that will go along way to getting the end result... the forward line was powerful last week and was good to see J Silver show glimpses of his dominant best in the one on one contests... i think the rovers backline have been solid all year it has been the other areas of the ground that have let them down in their poor performances but confidence and belief is a big thing in footy...

you're right thinkbig, my ears (amongst other things) have indeed pricked up at the mention of the word maggies!!

i reckon you've summed it up pretty well. good match ups, that's how i'd see them working out if steer plays, otherwise dan steel will probably get silver and cosgriff will go to cristo. steel did a great job on hargreaves last week. do you know if k norman is back for rovers? he would be a massive 'in' as he could really stretch the wang defence in the absence of steer

midfield battle should be more even than the 1st time around with the porter boys and clarke missing. should be a break even or slight advantage to rovers. and rovers defence won't have to contend with hayse or henry who chopped them up 1st time around.

Got to agree with you there thinkbig, if ever the my beloved hawks were going to get some revenge on the pies it would be this week. However I think Mcgyver underestimates the Rovers ruck division and it would be at the pies peril if they did.

Whilst Paul Kirby is the standout ruckman in the league, his faithful sidekick Boofa Carmody is not the player he once was and is better suited to the goalsquare where he is a marking threat in the pocket. The fact that the Hawks have three genuine rucking talls in Bell, Gaston and Platfuss means that they can chop and change regularly, with all 3 able to go forward and have an impact as well. If they can continuously put pressure on Kirby all day and run him around, it will go a long way to seeing a home win.

Also on a footnote, Tyson Hartwig....much underated player. Would be in line for League Dream team selection at CHB come end of the year. Holds his own strength wise against the gorilla forwards and also a superb running rebounder for a bloke his size. Thoughts?

Classic.

Anyways, few big weeks coming up for the Panthers. Have Wodonga this week who had a big win over Lavington last time, and always match up pretty well regardless of ladder position. Then the Panthers have Rovers, Magpies, Corowa and Yarra all in a row. Thoughts on how they'll fare in the next month or so?

not only is the spelling an issue but you cant read either, i believe the comment about Kirby was 'the standout ruckman in the league' so dont jump to defence so easily... just see if you can keep a lid on things a little bit longer joffa...

hooper will be able to run in the ruck for about 2mins each quarter so that will give big glamour Kirby a huge chop out no doubt... and Luke "i want to look like jesus" mullins is in great form but what do uuse expect, he can walk on water so surely footy cant be that hard...

Darc, how can you say the three big fellas can all go forward and have an impact this sunday? Bell and Gaston have barely troubled the scorers all season and last time your boys played the the Magpies, Platfuss kicked one, which was one of his rare touches on the day. I'm tipping Kirby to kick more than the three of them combined.

Just wondering wether any of u Wang die hards have reached for the wallet after the Pres plea in last Fridays paper? Pretty cheeky i would have thought.

Sounds like Wang are after a bit of help from the supporters, but the word around the traps is that the Hoppers are asking the players to put in for their $2000. Interesting to see how that goes over !!

hahahaahah think this would be pretty embarissing for ya after talkin ya selves up and every body sayin that rovers would win by 8 or 9 goals so next time i think use should just keep shut and i think i was right when i said trenny and cossy smashed use plus i think the wang back line did haha but one thing you got right is that Tyson Hartwig is a very good player but he is far off being in line for chb

Credit where credit is due....the Magpies were a class above on Sunday, even without 10 top line players. Was good to watch the two Veterans Carmody and Matty Allen play on each other for a large part of the game. Honours went to MA up until the last quarter where boofa broke loose and drove a few stakes into rovers supporters hearts. But tip the Hawks to bounce back against Lavi in a bid to keep their finals hopes alive!

i will quote my own words for you peanut, then you can go and clean up your dribble... at the time highlighted the mighty brown and gold were at $21 and then came into $10 after the shellacking they dished out last week... if the hawkers had of won yesterday, could you have seen the odds drifting out past that magical $31? i think not... call me crazy but this is a master strategical plan been put in place and dont say i didnt warn you... wang were great yesterday and will only get better! they'll need to though...

my apologies thinkbig. i recalled your previous post as saying you had already backed the rovers but clearly not. i am just checking out the current market, i see that rovers are out to $34 so i assume the plunge is on this week? It is a strange market - wodonga are $8 the flag and rovers are $34. Given the rovers % there is every chance they will grab 5th spot off wodonga in the run home so i thought they should be alot closer in the market. It is the sort of year where a team could make a run from the elimination final too, as teams 2-6 seem pretty even. Even nth albury in 7th still has a sniff of finals action with same wins as rovers and only 5 less %

apology accepted CP... i sorry for the late reply i have just been down at the tab puttin on a couple of multis... your right i dont know how the fluctuations are justified but am happy to wear it... it could well be a close run home to challenge the maggies in the GF, well stated! if a team can string a few wins together (cough cough rovers) they might just bolt and leave some teams behind... has been a very inconsistent year for alot of teams which indicates how close it could be between a few teams in the run home... fingers are crossed

Footballer fined over pub clash

25/06/2008 12:00:00 AM
NORTH Albury footballer Kane Patrick Godde’s remonstration over being removed from a hotel due to intoxication led yesterday to fines totalling $500.
Godde did not appear at Albury Local Court on charges of malicious damage and failing to quit licensed premises, but was represented by solicitor Mark Cronin.
Mr Cronin said Godde, an apprentice carpenter, had suffered a cut wrist on Monday.
A guilty plea to the charges was entered on behalf of Godde, 20, of Poplar Drive, Lavington.
The court was told in tendered facts that Godde ran through the beer garden at the New Albury hotel about 3am on April 20 towards a security officer who was talking to police with other security people chasing him.
Police assisted the security staff, restrained him and he was handcuffed before being escorted from the premises.
It was revealed to police that Godde had been ejected earlier for signs of excessive intoxication.
Police viewed security footage which showed Godde in a confrontation with security staff after being taken outside.
It showed him making impact with a locked front door, backing away and running towards the door a second time and forcing it open.
The door’s lock was damaged by the forced entry.
He was challenged by security staff, but pushed past and ran towards the beer garden.
Mr Cronin said Godde had been playing poker machines and dropped some money when going to cash it in, which led to him being asked to leave.
It was claimed by Mr Cronin that Godde was escorted out in “a fairly rigorous fashion”.
“I wonder why,” magistrate Gordon Lerve said.
Mr Lerve said it was another case of drunkenness late at night in Albury.
He said Godde had been asked to leave no doubt through what happened inside. Godde was convicted on both charges after Mr Lerve said excellent references had been tendered on his behalf.

Looks like Kane's carried his good form off the field with him...

If you name a few of those other "higher standard vic country leagues" it mite help us compare.

Money wise, it depends on which club they play for, but some teams are said to have spent 250-300k in recent years chasing flags while others spend 150k in an average season i'd guess. Those numbers would include all players payments, coach etc.

From what I have been told Myrtlefords 2 years at the top cost them around $140-$150k each year. I guess last year and this year their player payments would reflect in their performance's. If they had the money I think they would have some better Midfielders and Forwards to help out the young locals.
I did hear a rumour that wodonga were $400k in debt from season 2004 when they won a flag.
Any ideas on what the last few teams that have won the flag have spent on player payments???

If Paul Spargo has been named coach of Albury next season where does that leave Luke Carroll and Corey Lambert?
Could Corey end up back at North?
Could either of these guys have the recruiting power to get the Raiders hierarchy interested?

i reckon the current wang price at 1.50 is about right. Odds of 1.50, or 1/2, imply that wang would win the flag 2 out of 3 times from here. Around the money i would have thought. They are destroying teams with the best part of half of what will be their finals 21 missing

On exposed form i would have thought c/r should be clear 2nd pick based simply on the touch up they gave wang 1st time around. Even if wang had a bad day, the manner in which c/r got the job done suggests they are a real threat and the return encounter in a few weeks might tell us a fair bit more. It is pretty much write your own ticket about the rest

Heard the pres met with him last week, Burns and Doolan would be a huge injection but surely only the start of much needed recruiting

I believe he met with The President but is now having a meeting with The Raiders so called coaching head hunters and The Board

He missed the Albury job because they would have lost too many players if he was appointed.P Spargo is a pretty good plan B.He has also been clever with his sales pitch with Luke Carroll;almost has shamed him into playing anywhere else.I think Luke's job is closely linked with Jossy so that may prevent him looking anywhere else.

Im sure they are looking far and wide, to think they would just appoint Lambert "third hand" would be a joke, why bother looking in the first place, he was always there as a cantidate

In the GVFL tomorrow Rochester's "Tank" McPhee plays his 400th senior GVFL game. Anybody in the O&MFL been able to achieve this great milestone?

Reading todays paper re: Sansons trip to Lake, curious whether the Lavy's 2's coach 'Boobs' Hollard made the venture. No doubt shooting pigs and sinking frothies in the middle of the outback would have been right up his alley :D

The great Matthew Allen will notch up his 400th should the rovers play finals this year.

You forgot to mention eating BBQ'd everything and talking copious amounts of sh!t.

Don't think 'H' joined the boys. What did it actually have in the paper?

It is usually a very entertaining trip and a welcome break from the training track etc... from what i hear this year was no exception.
