View Full Version : Your Cricket Superstitions....
Just wondering if any BigFooty cricketers have any strange superstitions. I was watching South African Neil McKenzie's strange antics on the field when batting and wondered what other strange habits cricketers have.
I have two:
1) I always have pancakes the morning of a match.
2) I always put my left pad on first.
Pretty boring I know...maybe you guys have some better one!

The only superstitions I have is to go for a stroll through the CBD in Melbourne and get a Subway sandwich on me way to the 'G at the Boxing day Test. Does that count, Breidis? :D :p

Not so much a cricket superstition as such, more like "curse of the BSA" really, it works like this :
Every time I actually sit down and watch test cricket on the TV - Australia do very well indeed, usually dominating that particular session of play.
Yet as soon as I flick over to another channel, or go for a walk down to the shop, or go and do something else that takes me away from the TV screen - guess what ? Australia suddenly loses a few wickets, or the opposition starts to score a few runs.
Happens every single time - its absolutely uncanny, my wife says I am a curse on the Aussies !
For this reason I haven't actually seen LIVE one single Aussie wicket falling or seen LIVE one single opposition batting partnership for about 5 seasons now.
So its easy really, if I want the Kiwis to do well, all I have to do is not watch them !
cheers
Great topic Briedis
I'm not a superstitious personal normally but I do have three personal 'traditions' shall we say.
1. I always wear odd socks, with a black dress sock on my left foot. It began as a joke when I only brought on sock and had to borrow the other. But I hit my first six of my life that day. Best foot forward I guess.
2. I quitely whistle to myself when I go out to bat, with the hope whistling up a storm. Figuratively not literally.
3. I have a favourite tree (an old oak) I like to urinate against to get rid of any nervous energy. Does that count?
Left foot first onto the field when I came out to bat
ie step over the rope/line with my left foot, walk throught the gate with my left foot etc...
Walk around the stumps when I get to the middle (not laps just approach the crease from the opposite side to where I walked out!!!)

1. Left pad on before right (seems to be a favourite)
thats about it really, there are other things i do out of habit (box adjustment, thigh pad adjustment ect)
but nothing superstitious
1) Always wear a White floppy hat to bat
2) Always have a Bulldog sticker on the back of my bat :D
