View Full Version : Wirra - Forward??

Just wondering what peoples thoughts on Wirra being used as a small forward are?
I reckon he could be good value, especially if Beau Waters becomes a regular down back.
I reckon he could be used the way we used Hunter last year in little bursts up forward.
P.S. I understand how valuable he is down back with his rebounding but just thought Id bring it up....
Thoughts??
Why would you take the risk of moving the AA Back Pocket player into the Foward line? He is fine where he is for now.. as he gets older i think the fowardline could be the option

On occasion it isn't a bad idea but he's of more value in the backline and is too important to our game plan not to have him playing down back most of the time.

Played up forward a bit back in 2002 I think, kicked around 30 goals.
Leave him back though, the guys magic.

I'm not sure how much the pictures add.
I think Wirrpunda will stay in the back pocket.
We're going to have more options up forward this year.
I expect Waters and Hunter to both spend time forward, especially if one of Graham, Gaspar or Lynch makes an impact at CHB.

No.
I think Matera retiring will end up better for the long term. Means a tall foward line that works will be easier to develop. Our goals need to start coming from tall forwards rather than small forwards.
Wirra is the best sweeper in the comp. Best to be left down back.

Was watching the Eagles V Carlton game in 2002 on Fox Footy thursday night mainly for the Carlton fans reactions after the game (priceless)
Wirra was playing forward in that game and had a bit of shocker(he has always looked more composed in defence). Lynch looked good at CHF in his debut game though.

Once again, I agree with you BB! What's going on?

Very poor troll attempt there F/D. Very poor indeed. :thumbsd:
Can't even give you marks for effort for that one! :o

Just shows you how good the man really is to get selected for AA missing some games :)

What a funny joke. :thumbsu:
Anyway, every year people talk about Wirrpunda moving into the midfield or moving forward and I can never really understand it. I'm all for grooming someone as a replacement for Wirra, but why bother changing what works, without any need to.

I think Cuzz is just revelling in his new found ability to post pics. 'Twas a classic thread in the main forum.
Good stuff Cuzz! :thumbsu:
Now see if you can find me some pics of Suma in action. ;)

Believe it or not in your Qualifying final when you were down by 20 odd points I said you should move him to the forward line. He is very effective up there. Of course he is a freak down back as he showed against Adelaide :thumbsd:

Troll? whatever helps you sleep at night oh Hawky.
Chris Johnson > Wirra.
Didnt deserve AA selection.

Seriously if you honestly think Chris Johnson had a better 2006 than Wirra then u are quite stupid and I would be surprised if u watched more than 2 west coast games for the year. Clearly you have no idea, if anything Brent Harvey and Shannon Grant didn't deserve AA selection.
