For us out of satters when Bernie Vince was called at 32 we said Bernie who?
So I waited for the blurbs to follow.........and nothing?
No photo on the AFC website - no interview - almost that his selection may have been a hoax:p
So here is some info:
Bernie Vince from CMS to Adelaide Crows
Report: Peter Argent
How quickly has the sporting life of former CMS Crows footballer, Bernie Vince - the son of Tim and Serena Vince, Stansbury - changed over the last few months?
Rated as an outside chance to be collected in the AFL national draft by many so-called experts, Vince was Adelaide's third selection at pick number 32 in Saturday's second round.
His swift promotion to the Crows playing list is a great message for all young sportsmen about belief in your ability and persistence.
After having a limited pre-season with Woodville-West Torrens in 2005, it was suggested he return to the CMS Crows to find some fitness and form.
After consistent performances with his Yorke Peninsula club, he returned to the Eagles Reserves side and played consistently for the rest of the season.
Finally, after many good games, he made his league debut against Glenelg in a Sunday fixture, in the round 20 win.
Surprisingly, he was returned to the Reserves outfit for the next couple of games, before making a big impact at League level during the finals, his next three games at this level, recruitment people quickly starting to understand the quality and ability of this young sportsman.
His best performance was against Port Adelaide in the Eagles' preliminary final win.
"Bernie certainly looked like an exciting kid", said Crows recruitment manager, James Fantasia.
"Performing well in finals also heightened the value of Bernie's prospects in the recruiters' eyes.
"His efforts have generated a level of interest across the board."
While this is positive news for Vince, football wise, his selection will limit his chances in the game of leather and willow.
It would be expected he will now not be able to play for the SA Outbacks in the national Country Cricket Championships in Perth during January.
At the same titles last year, Vince was the State's leading run getter.
In his XXXX Gold Cup grade cricket match on Saturday, Vince only made five in Woodville's modest 112 against Adelaide University. His captain did give him a couple of overs at the end of the day, and he finished with 0/5, from 2.3 overs.
"I was really surprised at how early I was collected", Vince explained.
"It was suggested I may be collected late, but was more of a chance as a rookie selection.
"This is when the really hard work starts!"
Vince was on the radar with a number of AFL clubs; after appearing at the Eagles pre-season session the Monday before last, the rest of the week he trained with the Sydney Swans.
"I've always tried to take my opportunities and this result is amazing really", he said.
"It couldn't have been better, it's worked out perfectly."
While this is exciting news, the euphoria needs to be tempered with some revealing facts. Of the more than 3,000 people in the previous drafts since this concept started in 1986, some 1,043 players didn't play one game with their inaugural AFL club.
Bernie, celebrated his 20th birthday on October 2
