This question has often been posed a number of times, but Darren Berry wrote an article the other day about how more of Victoria's Pura Cup and ING matches should be played in the country, especially considering the poor crowds they get in Melbourne.
I'm sure it is not just a Melbourne thing.
My question is how often do people here go to watch ING and Pura Cup matches? Do you attend internationals as well - or maybe just domestic cricket.
There is no doubt there is at least some interest in domestic cricket - there is always lively discussion here, for example.
Although there is no TV coverage, it gets good support with live coverage on the weekends on the ABC and it gets a fair bit of space in the papers.
However, put all that media coverage and supposed interest, and compare it to the crowds, and it just doesn't add up.
Despite relatively cheap admission prices, the crowds just aren't there. This is supposedly the best first class competition in the world - but the comp is losing a lot of money, and our next group of Aussie stars deserve a little better.
