Cant think of any player Denis has "let go" from Carlton who went on and played top quality football.
Allan and Murphy had a few moments but nothing special. Beaumont, McKernan, Norman (not even picked up), Angwin (not picked up), Brett Johnson was not picked up also. Morrell not picked up.
I think Camporeale will join that list and not come back to bite us later.
I will be subtracting the play on from kick ins and the 15.01 m passes to youngsters who then feel obligated to handball back to him when he runs past though.
Harsh I know but fair.

There will be a honeymoon period where all the Bumber supporters come out and applaud his 30 possies and 4 goals in a game. But as the weeks go by they'll slowly turn on him. He sold out and he's now a mercenary. Essendon will never truely accept him as one of theres, and we at Carlton will always remember his selfishness first and foremost. That's the price he payed for a bit of extra cash.

Well there was not alot we could really do. If he didn't want to play for the club we had to let him go, albeit for nothing! He will be an excellent player for the Dons for a couple of years with the hard-at-the-ball players you mentioned. I will be angry if he tastes any success with them!

Camporeale's real appreciative of the opportunities Carlton gave him after reading his statements in today's Age.
Camporeale, who turned 30 in August, estimated he could play as many as four more seasons of AFL football. "There were a few reasons, but the biggest one was just the enjoyment factor," he said of his move. "I'm late in my career and just wanted a change and wasn't really enjoying myself, and I just feel like a new recruit now. I didn't sleep last night, I was like a new draftee."
Camporeale said the disillusionment of his fall-out with his old club, and having to train by himself before being given permission to train at Windy Hill, had made him more appreciative of his second chance.
"You certainly learn a lot more about yourself when you get put in that situation," he said. "I've probably been a bit blessed that I haven't had to worry about those sort of things, and I guess I've been a bit ignorant towards that.
"Essendon is a great club. I've played a lot of times against them, and really enjoyed playing against the group of guys they've got here. I think they've got a good mix between young and old guys that can definitely play in finals, and hopefully win a premiership in the time I'm here."
If an outside runner is so valuable and the best footballer in the draft why didn't we redraft him yesterday?

I know I can't speak for everyone, but within our small circle of Carlton fans up here (about 8 strong), there was not one person who was sad to see him go. Mind you, he was our scapegoat of 2005. And considering we won the spoon, that's quite an honour!

Guy's I was as dissapointed at Campo walking out on the club as anyone, it just doesnt happen to the Blues. My dissapointment related to the fact that one of the issues was $$$ considering the fact that he had been paid way above his value for years. The club offerred him a fair contract amount but this was not accepted.
Anyway time to move on. I would have liked him to finish his career with the club as he has been a good player for a long time - but not to be. It now opens the door for a younger guy to take a midfield role. Perhaps its the opportunity that one of the following have been waiting for: Carrazzo, Simpson, Davies, Blackwell, Russell, Chambers, Sporn - now there will be opportunities and we will find out who is going to go the distance....
Best outcome is that when we play Essendon, whoever plays on Campo absolutely towels him up!

However after seeing his pretty little face smiling and happy at Essendon, I'm furious, but glad he has piessed off.
I want to see him hurt, hurt physically and hurt mentally when Carlton make the finals in the next few years and he is playing out his career on the bottom of the ladder.

I'm always interested to read what supporters have to say when a favourite son leaves their club for another club. Campo didn't leave Carlton for more money - he is getting paid at Essendon HALF of what he was being paid at Princes Park.
He have you great service - and the nasty comments about his departure do you no credit.
However, the fact you Blue-baggers SHOULD be mad about is that your football department let such a good player go for NOTHING, and that is inexcusable, imo. It's the Port Adelaide dummy spit all over again.
If a bloke doesn't want to play for you (for whatever the reason) and you can't change his mind, then look for the best deal you can get.
Essendon had to do that with Paul Salmon a few years back when they couldn't get him to stay. We finished up with 2 good players for the loss of one, and had good service out of both plus they played in a premiership side.
Once a player is out of contract he can please himself where he plays.
He's basically done nothing on field for 2 years on-field, and this after the inclusions of Stevens and Scotland etc.
Off-field, he would have to be the one the greediest players ever to wear the Navy Blue. He was paid way over what he was worth and when the club puts its foot down, he pis#es and whinges like a little school girl.
As for being a premiership player, that's all well and good, but really, anyone could have walked into that team and been a premiership player. He was just fortunate he was picked up by the club in the '94 draft. He never went through the hard years of the late '80's to early '90's like Sticks, Braddles, SOS, and Deany to name but a few.
In short, i'm glad to see the back of him and geez I hope someone lays a massive hip and shoulder on him next year and knocks the little sh#t into 2007..!!

The fact we did let him go for nothing shows that either the Bombers were offering duds in exchange, he's expendable and we didn't think we was worth redrafting in the PSD ahead of Mclaren on less money.
Some of your supporters aren't too happy with drafting Heffernan Heffernan a Bomber again - so ******** (http://www.bomberblitz.com/forum/index.php?showtopic=23042) and even have the temerity to compare Campo's style to Bradley's.

If Campo's behaviour at Carlton was anything slightly resemblant of leadership, you can shoot me dead ... the bloke was one of the most selfish, weak veteran players we have had for quite awhile.

Murphy and Allan were only ever considered to be short-term players and did exactly what we wanted them to do. Get us to a finals series, and fill a void while young players (Dyson, Stanton in Murphy's case, Hille, Laycock in Allan's case) develop. They did that and I still think they will contribute more in 2006 that Bannister will.

Murphy and Allan had 2 seasons at Essendon. What happened in the second season? Why was Sheedy so keen for Allan to play on next season if he had done what the club wanted him to do? So is Campo there just to fill in a void as well? And Heffernan? That's a lot of voids. The recruiting of Allan was an admission on Sheedy's part that he still did not have faith in Hille's ability to carry the ruck. The same reason that Salmon was reintroduced prior to that.
Longy413
20 Dec 2005, 13:46
Murphy and Allan had 2 seasons at Essendon. What happened in the second season?
Allan was injured, Murphy got surpassed by kids. It isn't a failure if Dyson and Stanton start playing better footy, that is what we wanted them to do.
Why was Sheedy so keen for Allan to play on next season if he had done what the club wanted him to do?
Probably because Allan was seen as a better back up alternative to Henneman and Cartledge isn't ready. Can't argue with that.
So is Campo there just to fill in a void as well? And Heffernan? That's a lot of voids.
Yeah. We have a weakness with midfield depth. That's one void, not a lot of voids. Heffernan is 26 remember, the same age as Saddington. Don't most clubs use late picks to draft for weaknesses?
The recruiting of Allan was an admission on Sheedy's part that he still did not have faith in Hille's ability to carry the ruck. The same reason that Salmon was reintroduced prior to that.
Correct. Because he was a kid who played little junior footy, focusing on volleyball. He needed time to develop and I can't off the top of my head think of a ruckman holding the fort at the age of 20-22 other than Steven King in recent times. Hille was 20 when Salmon came to the club, he was 22 when Allan came, that is very young for a ruckman. He's ready now, but few ruckman in the game still ruck 120 minutes and both Grand Finalists this season had two viable options. And as above, Allan is still a better option than Henneman or a raw Cartledge and it releases Laycock forward. If we could have got another year out of Allan we perhaps could have delisted Henneman and afforded the time for Cartledge and Laycock to develop further. In the end, you can't help injuries and Hille himself has publicly admitted the large benifits he got from having a ruckman like Allan at the club.
Sorry - but wasn't SOS asking for too much money one of the reasons why you had problems with the salary cap?
Great loyalty!!!!
There was a time where SOS had a massive fallout with our ex-president, John Elliot. And during that time his contract was up, and Richmond were offering him a large, juicy contract.
Despite the scuffles with Elliot, he re-signed for a much lesser amount. So don't you dare come in here and question the loyalty of one of our greatest players if you don't have the facts to back you up.
As for this thread, I don't want it to turn into a huge flame, so I'll be keeping an eye on this one. Please be civil ... that goes for both sides. Any signs of disrespect and trolling will be dealt with swiftly and this thread closed. Am I making myself clear?

Longy413, you're a real champion poster, honestly. You never let anyone get anything over your club, including trolls. All whilst staying civilised and constructive. Impressive!
Cheers.
Although, not even you can convince me that Essendon have no dirty laundry.
I will and have admitted to our failures. There are plenty of examples, especially on the Essendon board.
I just honestly don't believe Murphy and Allan rank among them.

We should believe what you the tripper- boy says then right?
If he isnt a cancer why did he leave for money???
He did say he wanted to be a one club player during the season did he not?
He didnt leave for the money last year when we have him over 600k.
I wou;d have believed him if he had walked last season.....(that its not for the $$$$$$$)
The guy is a cancer....
And for the Essendon supporters who think were crying over sour grapes..
Take a look in TC what we have thought about his football, his character and his leadership over the last 2 years.
He wasnt worth a player in trade.,
He is a pathetic little weed who has had it all handed to him on a platter.
The sooner he was out the better.
Youll know what we mean by round 12.
Camporeale did not leave just for money. Camporeale left because he wasn't appreciated by the club.
Camporeale left because Essendon offered him more acceptance.
Camporeale will be a good acquasition to Essendon because he has the tough nuts around him. Carlton don't and he knows he will excel in this environment.
Your wrong again Synbad, always are, always will be.
Your just loud with no football knowledge but enough inside "whispers" to make you stand out.
Now I feel better.:D

No hard feelings on Campo (http://carltonfc.com.au/default.asp?pg=news&spg=display&articleid=241376)
Not from me and the turncoat deserves to run smack bang into Hartlett or Livingston in round seven.
