This is our first round rookie pick from Coburg. Does anyone know something about him.

I'm pretty sure he is a ruckman.

Don't know anything about him other than that. Would have liked Armstrong.

A 200cm skinny ruckmen. Only 19, and very enthusiastic.

Nothing wrong with taking a ruckman in the rookie draft.
That gives us Hille and Laycock as our first choice. Although Laycock may become our CHF.

Cartledge still developing. And Ryder is also more likely to become and AFL forward rather than ruckman.

Firman is a left foot midfielder. In the Ricky Dyson mould.

Firman played in the AFL Canberra rep game against QAFL. In the report it said he played in defence.

A quick check on the AFL Canberra site showed he kicked 3 against the Swans reserves in the last H&A game. That's all I can find.

I also saw a report where a "Matt Firman" played in the Geelong & District FL rep game a couple of years back. It said he was playing for Bell Post Hill.

Read the same report Pantsless.

Very happy with Heath Hocking. He could be very good value.
Tim O'Keefe is a hack.

Bendigo listed player last season.
Played a couple of senior games late in the year.

190cm but one of those players that isn't quite big enough to play Key Position.
Plays mostly down back, bit up forward. I just don't think he's any good, but good luck to him.

Matt Firman
-Best first year player this year for Belconnen Magpies (AFL Canberra)

Senior Player Profile
Name: Matthew Firman
Position: Utility, forward
Nickname: Sherman, Shermanator
Originated From: Bell Post Hill, Geelong
Sherman is a 1st year player coming up form the GDFL league in Geelong
playing for Bell Post Hill, he is already one of the most popular players in the group and has great skills and has taken a few speckies already this year. He is one of the most exciting players and you can’t look away when he has the ball because he can do something special at any moment. Well known for his big mouth, he can talk to ear off of anyone!

Hocking was in the 2004 TAC cup team of the year.
Firman is from the ACT and won Belconnen's best first year player last year. Looking at the results of matches, he always was in the best and bobbed up for some goals too. Could prove to be some very wise choices there despite none being names who were thrown around prior to the drafts.

Lachlan McKinnonn is a 200cm player who was used as a tall backman as much as a ruckman. He took up the game late and is a smart cookie off the field achieving high academic results and is at uni. He was stiff not to play in the Calder premiership team of 2004. essendon were very close to rookie drafting him last year. Heath Hocking could be a bonus, the wrap on him was that he physically matured before the other boys and that he hasnt got the same development as other players. I saw him do a real number on Nathan jones this year and will be very handy for Bendigo. i would have liked us to get Matt White in PSD but I guess we were committed to the 2 players we took.

Sherman was awesome this year. He's only a young fella, obviously, but worked his ass off once he came up and talked his way into the 1st grade side. Backed up his talk on the field, being crucial in a number of games including the finals series.

Should go well.

Wonder where he was spotted to get on a rookie list?

Does anyone know something about him.

A fairly skinny ruck coming from a waterpolo background. Played 6 games with Calder in '04 but was on and off the bench a lot in those games.

Still developing and learning the game, but his ruckwork, mobility in space, and ethic are already quite good. A fairly gangly type, still growing into his body; struggles to keep his feet in contests sometimes (which is more due to awkwardness [re:gangly type] moreso than an issue of strength.)

Rookie spot suits him perfectly IMO.

This is our first round rookie pick from Coburg. Does anyone know something about him.

I had a role with Coburg this year and saw every game he played, mostly in the twos and in the seniors at the end of the season. He improved dramatically over the course of the year and with the same improvement as he fills out and gets better ruck skills will make it as a great tap ruckman. Very very team orientated and very very coachable. The type of kid that if you said every fifth step take a hop he'd do that all day. Altho a quiet nature he is not shy on the footy field. Never wanted to go off the ball even when when he was stuffed. Very admirable.

A great kid too boot and fully deserves a crack at it, I will follow his career with interest. Good luck to him.

Shirman (Matt Firman) is a little gun. His best attribute by far is how evasive he is. He will fit into Essendon perfectly and I am sure he will play AFL in 2006.

It's a great draft pick. If liek last yr our ruckmen get injured ( at one stage we had Bradley and Henneman and that was it) we have someone as bak up
