Maybe time to scrap the excessive hit and giggle and focus on Tests....

Ashes schedule for 2006-7 delayed

Boycott in Ashes schedule plea
Cricket Australia has delayed the announcement of the schedule for next year's Ashes series.
The fixtures were due to be released on Tuesday but this has been delayed in order to fine tune the programme.

The five Tests will have to be fitted in between the Champions Trophy, which ends in November, and the World Cup, which begins in March 2007.

"Cricket Australia is still hopeful to be able to confirm the programme in the short term," said a statement.

Speculation suggests the series will be squeezed into a six-week window.

That would leave England with a gruelling five Tests in 45 days as they look to win an Ashes series in Australia for the first time since 1987.

Geoff Boycott, who also criticised the schedule for the Pakistan series which England lost 2-0, said recently that the England and Wales Cricket Board should veto any such suggestions.

The former England batsman insisted: "It's daft to put it forward and it's stupid if we accept it. I hope the ECB have got the brains not to accept it."

If we are trying to put five Tests into45 days, the Poms should reject it. Have a schedule like this:

Late November- FIRST test, Brisbane
Second week of december- SECOND Test- Perth
Boxing Day- THIRD Test- MCG
New Years Day- FOURTH Test- SCG
Mid january- FIFTH test-Adelaide

Then 6 one dayers v the Poms in the 6 states
Finish end of the first week of February
Scrap the three teams next year

its possible that there may be no tri series next summer, which will mean that'd be for the first time since 79/80. lets hope there is one, and its a jam packed itenary but it looks like the west indies , new zealand or zimbabwe may be the only teams available if there is one. tri series are becoming a thing of the past now as world cups, champions trophy, asia cup and vb series are basically the only ones now. england have now done away with the natwest series.

what i really want to know is how we'll fit a full scale tour to the west indies in before the world cup. will it be the traditional 4 tests or cut back to 2-3 , surely there will be odi's leading up to the world cup. unless the world cup splits up their series, perhaps odi's in feb and tests in may ??
