Just out of curiosity, which of you still watches analogue TV nowadays? If you do, are you planning to switch to digital at some point?

The biggest reason for switching to digital ATM, is if you've got a widescreen tv.
You can't get a Widescreen signal from Analogue.
Yes, I've got 2 x Digital STB (Set Top Box)

I still watch analogue. I still have dial up. I still have a mobile phone that doesn't take or receive photos. I still have lace up shoes. I still have pants with a zip fly.
Like anything, I'll upgrade when I need to and when I can afford it.

I still have an analogue watch and a phone that doesn't take or receive photos too. :) Just interested to know why the take-up rate on digital seems to be progressing so slowly.

Yes, I've got 2 x Digital STB (Set Top Box)I switched to standard def digital a year ago, but I still use my 4:3 Sony Trinitron TV to watch it (and I have no immediate plans to spend $x,000 on a plasma or lcd - quite happy with the picture i get on my crt). The only annoyance (and its minor) is the constant switching from fullscreen to widescreen broadcasts, therefore necessitating an aspect ratio change with the remote. Aside from that, digital absolutely belts analogue TV for six. I actually bought the STB so I could pick up the ABC properly (for some reason at most places I have lived, reception for the ABC has always been quite poor). Noawadays it's picture perfect and I get ABC-2 to boot. :thumbsu:

i guess it's cost
got one of the set top boxes for $75 last week from coles - yes the picture is better but the volume is lower  as a ABC girl gettign ABC2 is good (enjoyed david grey in dublin last night)
but the way the digital picture freezes for a split second sometimes is annoying

Digital TV has its advantages.
1. The picture is always perfect, depending on the antenna position.
2. When recording, the picture is always good. Recording to a DVD is better though.
3. ABC2 is awesome, love catching the local football replays (SANFL, VFL, WAFL)
Recommended STBs...
Legend Digital's LSD2 is good as a basic entry-level reciever, it sells at some places for $99. TEAC make good ones too, especially because they use the component video jacks, as does Panasonic's TU-SZT105A. Avoid cheap-arse ones like those at Woolies or the Warehouse.
If you have a HD-capable set, you might want to think about Panasonic, Sony or even Samsung.

Digital is atrocious here.
We've got TDT and that's bloody woeful to watch. The screen and sound freezes up, crackles and you miss most of what's been showing or said.
At least with analogue you can still see it and hear it.
It's the same with mobiles and police radios, they all worked better in anologue than digital. The terrain here isn't all that suitable to digital.

I'm the same. Except that I doubt I'll go digtal for awhile. Maybe 10 years or so from now. Best time to buy some 'old' large TV's. Cheap.

Unless you've got a Widescreen TV or a Plasma / LCD that needs HD, there's really no need for one.
P.S. I've got a 86cm Widescreen CRT..... that flogs the pants off a Plasma and CRT...
I can't understand the mass hysteria about Plasmas, unless you sit 5m away from one.
Each to their own I guess.

Well well well, we were told in 2007 that all analogue people would by then be with Digital. The only reason my mum bought the idea of upgrading to Digital was because I noticed the 10th birthday thing and that it would only cost $10 to upgrade...so we did.
I love the +2 channels and red button features. People say ours is slow...but why would it be slower than other people's when loading up the TV Guide etc?
Therefore, the reason we simply upgraded to Digital was because the installation price was only $10!

Not sure why the volume would be lower.

Each to their own I guess.I don't get the plasma thing either (or lcd for that matter). I don't think the technology has matured yet. You notice poor results when they display rapid movement. I'm considering getting hold of the same tv as you mentioned. What brand/model have you got?
yes i've gone all through the controls & the instructions for the STB & the tv itself cannot see why but the volume on av for the digital stuff is definately lower than all the 'normal' channels

Thank You, someone agress with me on LCD / Plasma.
Plasma also suffers from Burn-In.... good luck with your TV watching Channel 7 with its logo in the same position day in / day out.
I've got a Phillips Pixel Plus 86cm Widescreen CRT. Its an absolute pleasure to watch every night, and I only sit < 2m away from it. Try that with a Plasma!
I don't believe they make them (the Phillips) anymore.
I've seen a Grundig 76cm Widescreen CRT at my mates. That picture is even better than mine. Its absolutely breathtaking.
P.S. If I was going to fork out $6K+ for a Plasma,
I'd get a $2K Widescreen CRT 76cm for everyday viewing and spend the rest on a projector and proper drop screen. It'll flog the pants off a Plasma any day.... providing you don't have any lighting issues.

A friend of mine went into serious debt about six months ago just to get one (one of those "interest-free for six/twelve months" deals). [shrugs]

Its absolutely breathtaking.I've been looking at the Sony KVHR36M31 86cm (always loved the Sony TVs - fantastic quality). (A review I found states: "It is without a doubt the best picture I have ever seen, particularly in hi-def. I feel sorry for people who think that plasma, LCD and rear projection technologies are anywhere near the image quality of the proven and constantly improving, CRT screen. They may well catch up one day, but if you are looking for superb picture, no on-going maintenance, a cheaper unit for the same quality, then this Sony unit is for you...").
That said, I might check out the Grundig - heard good things about them, too.

Amen to that. I suppose the best thing about plasmas & LCD's at the moment is the space that they save due to having no huge depth.
But on that topic of digital/analogue, get digital if you can, it's great compared to analogue. I have it built in to my TV so don't need a STB.
I have Foxtel Digital IQ, so hopefully Channels 7, 9 & 10 will come on board soon otherwise I will eventually have to purchase either a set top box or a new digital tv just for those 3 channels.
