from extreme black and white website: sounds a bit like guido to me. Does mention somewhere else that higgins is more of a 'first dibs' type of player who gets roughly 1/3rd of his stats through a hardball. Sounds like a good footsoldier in the midfield, but I guess it just depends on how far he goes with this style of play - wont be complaining if he gets to scott west or simon black status.
answer is in response to where wisbey ranked higgins in the list of draftees. note that his rankings are a bit different to the way the draft went - he had marc murphy at #9, and shannon hurn at #1, for instance.
------
In the end I settled on #35. He went #11 and I know a number of other clubs who would have considered him for around pick 11.
I would sum up Higgins' game as "Simon Black style. Read, get, dispose quickly (usually short)and reliably with good vision."
That is significant and he does it very well but my query was whether he has enough strings to his bow, given his so-so pace (especially off the mark) and a few other concerns.
Had a good year and certainly his first half of his U18 Champs game in particular looked serious AFL. I didn't take much notice of his late season TAC form as he appeared to be struggling fitness-wise, probably with a calf complaint. He will definitely play AFL but every year there are a handful of kids I (as with everyone in recruiting) really struggle to confidently nail and he is one with whom I struggled this year.
AFL-wise there is probably a 60/40 split of things I see in him that I like or that concern me (in terms of AFL potential).
