Will he play again? Can he get a role in defence? Or was he just part of the 2002-2004 transition and no longer required?

I thought Josh was unluckly not to play more last year, he had a good 2004. He can play in defence and in the middle so I still believe he has a chance this year but might have to leapfrog a few first.

With a list of 40-odd players, you can't expect them all to be stars. But Wooden is a more than capable back-up, and if injury strikes one of our best 22, he is good enough to step right in and be up to AFL standard.
Not a first line player, but a good backup. If he takes his opportunities he may well stay in the starting line up.

If he gets his chance and makes a good fist of it there is no reason why he couldn't find a spot in the team.
I know everyone has their ideal 22 all laid out in their heads and scream things like 'what do you MEAN no Sam Butler!?' but really, Kasey Green got a spot in our grand final team so there is always a chance for guys like Wooden to grab an opportunity when it comes up.
His last year on the list regardless of what he achieves next year.

I am in the opinion he should have seeked a trade back to NSW at the end of the season.

He will struggle for a game.

Agreed but I think we'd be able to trade him so that our last pick in the 2006 draft is a little better than whatever 3rd rounder we end up with; a little like the McConnell situation this year.
Having said that, if he outperforms Rowan Jones and Damien Adkins then he may get another year. The way I see it at the end of 2006, Banfield will join Matera as the retired, Sharp will be promoted of the rookie list (perhaps even Armstrong) and two of Jones, Adkins and Wooden will be delisted so we can take 3 picks. If Armstrong makes it good then all three of those players will go.

Next years 3rd round pick will be a Father/Son pickup so we won't be going out of our way to change it.

A Morton? That would be good news.
